5.0 out of 5 stars Left-handed? This is the must-have mouse
I've been using right-handed mice for years, most of them 'ergonomic', which is to say 'carpal-tunnel-inducing for anyone left-handed'. This is the first left-handed mouse I've ever used, and it really is amazing being able to have all the nice ease-of-use functions right-handed users have had for so long, such as thumb buttons, a comfortable grip, and so forth...

5.0 out of 5 stars Left-handed? This is the must-have mouse, August 24, 2006

This review is from: Logitech MX 610 Left-Hand Laser Cordless Mouse (Personal Computers)
I've been using right-handed mice for years, most of them 'ergonomic', which is to say 'carpal-tunnel-inducing for anyone left-handed'. This is the first left-handed mouse I've ever used, and it really is amazing being able to have all the nice ease-of-use functions right-handed users have had for so long, such as thumb buttons, a comfortable grip, and so forth.

The mouse itself took me a little while to get used to. I was using a Logitech G7 cordless mouse just prior, which had extremely fine-tuned response and tracking. The MX 610 doesn't possess quite that fine-level of granularity, but is still rather nice and precise; I only notice the difference when photoediting, where I'm a little less sure than I was before. However, the added comfort is a WELCOME change!

Battery life seems to be decent; I got about a month on the first set of included batteries, consisting of daily use for several hours usually. The MX610 uses 2 AA batteries rather than rechargeables. Some like disposables, some like rechargeables - I'm in the middle on the subject (I've liked and disliked both for various reasons at times), so it's for you to decide if this is a major attraction or detraction.

The MX610 lefty fits well into my (rather large) hand and both buttons are easy to use/press. The wheel is also easy to access, and extremely easy to scroll. As is the case with many current mice, it supports both vertical and horizontal scrolling, and the horizontal scrolling is easy to do (unlike on some Microsoft brands of mice).

The two thumb buttons for forward/backward web navigation are a little clunky to get to (they seem to be set up high, in my opinion) but I don't use them often.

This mouse possesses two light-up buttons as well - a blue button for incoming instant messages, and a green for incoming email. Both of them are extremely poorly-placed, almost on the top right corner of the mouse. Neither of them are particularly easy to access, either via thumb or index finger; I usually have to lift my hand off the mouse to get to them. As I mentioned, however, I have big hands, so your mileage may vary.

There's also built-in volume control up/down buttons just to the front of the mail/IM buttons. Those are slightly easier to click with my index finger when needed, but still a bit clunky.

As with most decent Logitech mice, all the extra buttons (mail, IM, volume, web navigation) can be reprogrammed to do whatever you want out of a variety of functions.

All in all, I find this mouse extremely worth the purchase if you're a left-handed user who wants a usable mouse that isn't a generic righty/lefty scroll mouse, and who wants to have some navigation buttons and extra goodies. The feel of the mouse is very comfortable, and overall it's definitely a quality mouse. Lefties finally get a break in the computer world!

It has an extremely nice feel and I thought that I was going enjoy using it and was glad I purchased it. Unfortunately, within 3 weeks of delivery, the mouse became erratic and inconsistent. It would skip 3 or 4 inches across the screen and was impossible to select a specified point or text. I returned the MX 610 immediately and Amazon immediately refunded the total purchase price. I wish that it had worked.

I really like the feel of this mouse in my hand. It is sad that there are so few ergonomic left handed mice available. This would be a great one, but.... It has fits where it stalls and then jumps across the page. It is so annoying that I no longer use this mouse. I have a USB port on my monitor that is within 12 inches of the mouse and still I have this problem. I've also tried switching to other ports on my computer, front and back. Something is interfering with the mouse, but I can't find it. I've read that other folks have this problem too, but there's no fix from Logitech. So, back to a 'universal' mouse that fits either hand. At least I can switch buttons and use it left handed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great mouse for lefties, December 17, 2006

Lefties of the world unite, at least, around this mouse. I am ambidextrous but have always preferred to mouse left, settling on less than satisfactory solutions now that most mice are more or less ergonomically shaped. The Logitech MX 610 is crafted for lefties (and feels quite odd in the right hand, by the way). The feel and function are terrific. It comes with email and instant message notification lights, the timing of which may be varied - not particularly useful IMHO but do not detract from otherwise excellent function. Heavy enough to feel solid, light enough to allow quick use, overall, a "just right" (or should that be, "just left") product.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was overdue - but boy is it nice!!!, January 21, 2007
This review is from: Logitech MX 610 Left-Hand Laser Cordless Mouse (Personal Computers)
We south-paws have it rough out there. Here is an item that will make computer use for the left hander much easier. It is very comfortable, it seems to take shape of your hand and it just moves around effortlessly. The many buttons on this mouse are programable, you can start messenger, open your e-mail, adjust the volume, and go back and forward on web pages, just to name a few. Very handy!!! If you are left handed or know someone who is that uses a computer, this would be a great gift!! Can I give it six stars??

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible mouse. Doesn't have range and skips a lot!!!, July 17, 2008

I bought this mouse for my brother who is a lefty and a computer geek. This mouse doesn't work for short or longer (less than 5 ft) ranges without skipping all over the place. The form factor is ok, its on the big side, so I recommend you save your money and buy a mouse that works since it's not that comfortable to use either. Substandard product at a premium price

I like the mouse overall but the choices for programming the buttons is somewhat limited. I need to have the second button or the right click button which in a lefthanded mouse is actually on the left. Anyway this button is NOT programmable. The only option is Right Click or you can swap the buttons. I need to be able to program this button to be a "keystroke" and that be "Enter" as this is very handy and helpful. In AutoCAD it is wonderful to be able to pick and hit return on the mouse by toggling or quickly picking between the two fingers. This is also handy in a lot of other programs so you don't have to double click so much that you get carpal tunnel or some other injury. I have informed Logitech about this but whether they fix it only time will tell. I sure hope so but I also doubt it but I am still hoping a bunch.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Communication" breakdown, January 18, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech MX 610 Left-Hand Laser Cordless Mouse (Personal Computers)
I too purchased this left-handed mouse with high hopes. I tried to install the software that came with this mouse. Windows Vista instructed me to go to the Logitech site and download a compatible software. I did this. Let the dragging and lagging begin. After sitting on hold for an hour with Lotitech I hung up and researched on my own. I soon discovered that this mouse has a communication problem. Everything on my desk seemed to interfere with this mouse. My solution is as follows: 1) use a light-colored, none-metalic, cloth-based mouse pad; 2) invest in a USB extention cable; 3) use the USB extention cable to place the adapter as close as possible to the mouse (this cuts down on the interference); 4) have someone close by to vent with, or you will throw this mouse into the wall and waste your money. This is actually a very good mouse for lefties. Once you get it to function properly, it's well worth the time and effort. It cradles nicely in your palm and eliminates the pull on your inner wrist from using "righty or ambidextrous" mice. I would have given this mouse a 5 if it worked from the start.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mousemaker, Mousemaker, Make Me a Mouse!, December 16, 2007
This review is from: Logitech MX 610 Left-Hand Laser Cordless Mouse (Personal Computers)
Considering it's one of the only mice (mouses?) designed for left-handed people, that alone recommended it to me. That Logitech designed it, was enough to induce me to break down and spend my own hard-earned money for it. It works smoothly, is attractive and fits my hand nicely. It has more bells and whistles than I really need, and too many buttons for my taste, but--WOW--what a relief to have a mouse that fits my hand! I usually have to settle for a 'universal fit' (ie symetrical) mouse, but that's not a reall solution. Come on, Mouse-makers! Make me a mouse! Make me more inexpensive, simple, mouses that fit those of the left-handed persuasion!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Winner!, December 10, 2007

For Lefties, this mouse gets the cats MEOW! I bought 3 other Left Hand Mice before this one came out. Those others were a major disappointment with many faults. The Logitech MX610 never fails to activate right away, has the best battery life of any I've tried. The auto off feature works great. And this MX610 left Hand mouse is just the right size to fit you hand perfectly. Scrolling up-down, sideways, forward-back, e-mail all work very well. Convient size for desktop or laptop. Easy to program the buttons too. Absolute WINNER! Thank you Logitech.
