Great hardware, limited software...,

I also own a Kensington Orbit, and at the time I purchased it though that it was the top of the heap for trackballs. However, while extremely comfortable (and stylish) I quickly became frustrated with having to clean the mechanical mechanisms on a regular basis. After fiddling around with a Logitech Marble Mouse at a local office supply store, lo and behold Santa put one under my tree. What a difference optical technology makes! The Marble Mouse is one "smoooooth operator". (Appologies to Carlos Santana.) With nearly 3/4 of the big red ball sticking out of the ultra smooth case, the Marble Mouse requires minimal force and movement. Because of it's optical technology, cleaning is a snap. Only three support bearings have to be wiped off every now and then. I should add that I've never been forced to clean the Marble Mouse, because dirt does not seem to affect it's operation. The two buttons on either side of the ball are large and fairly sensitive, requiring minimal force to use. Well constructed! Lastly, but certainly not the least important: The Logitech Marble Mouse is fairly inexpensive. One major negative: The software that comes with the Marble Mouse, MouseWare, is severely lacking. It only affords the barest minimum for configuration, and there is no support for "chording". Logitech has pretty steep software competition with Kensington's highly configurable and customizable MouseWorks software. If Logitech's MouseWare software were to be much improved, I would easily give the Marble Mouse five stars.

Optical Marble makes it work 100% of the time!,

I can't add much to some of the reviews here except to say that my excitement for this product comes from its ability to keep working all the time. I was plagued by the constant cleaning of mice and trackballs.....the cleaning wasn't bad, but the problem was that the tracking performance just got worst and worst, pretty much on a daily/hourly basis until you finally got high enough blood pressure to drive you to clean the ball.(before my head exploded)Well, this optical marble technology makes that a nightmare of the past. It works all the time, and does not seem to degrade with time. It has taken my mouse frustration, literally, down to ZERO! I highly recommend this product! (I'm buying a couple more for my wife and kids who have also finally had enough fighting the dirty mouse ball blues)

This device is designed for people with limited desk space, appealing to those who want trouble-free operation and accurate response. This product works well across the board, with it's very acceptable accuracy and ambidextrous design. It works well with games, as well as everyday apps.

Best product on the market,

Personally, I hate trackballs and prefere the good old fashioned mouse any day. I recieved this trackball as a present from my father since my mouse has broken. I was going to deal with it till I could get a new mouse. I loved it!! I would never use anything else, trackball or mouse! For the price it is really nice. A great gaming mouse too. The USB version is great on my PS2. This is really a great item and I would recommend it to the grave!

My third one and all three are still working. This one took a little more getting used to than past ones and tweaking the software for it but after doing that I have to say this one is my favorite. It is easier to "de-gunk" than earlier version and after the tweaking is responsive just how I like it. If you own a regular mouse, you have my sympathy.

Best Trackball,

I have been using this trackball for 18 months now and just love it. Easy to keep clean. Fits your hand like a glove. I have tried other tackballs but found them hard to keep clean. This is the best optical trackball I have found for the price. I nowown four and the first one is going strong.

Multi-function trackball,

I was not a trackball person, but realized I needed one for my first-person games. After a short transition period, I have come to love this little device!I use it for business applications as well as for gaming. I have come back to buy another one for my office. It lacks a "wheel" but the driver has a "3rd button simulation" which has many possiblities. One of which is a wheel simulator. Good for scrolling through web pages or word documents or whatever. I do not find that this device 'drifts' as was mentioned above. It is simple to clean, mostly maintenace free (depending upon how much you sweat when playing first-person games). The optical sensor works like a charm. The ball is easily removable.. just make sure you don't let the ball fall out when transporting the trackball..

Still the best mouse after 10+ years,

After over a decade of use mine is still cranking like it's brand new. Sure the rubber nubs have fallen off and the Logitech logo is totally worn off but I still use this daily seeing I have yet to find anything better. From regular web browsing to gaming and even doing my 3D graphics this mouse has outlasted 4 laptops and a few desktops. Only way I'll retire it is if I find a cordless Logitech trackball I like as much as this corded one.

QUITE A SURPRISE,

I stumbled across this trackball on EBAY by accident. Though, it looks similar to the gray Logitech trackball and seems like some type of knock off version, this trackball is very accurate and has become one of my favorite trackballs.
It is a tad smaller than Logitech's other trackballs and gives the user the feel of a regular mouse with the touch of a trackball. It is not wireless but few Logitech's are and even Kensington wireless expert pro mouse does not respond as well as the white Logitech trackball.

Hi I'm A home schooled student and so I'm on the PC a-lot. So after my wrist was throbing from a history Quiz useing a mouse, I figured that I should get a trackball. Problem is I'm a lefty. This thing works extremly well in both hands. My only beef is that the ball isn't under my thumb. but if you want a smooth ride get this.P.S. If anyone knows or is a Logitech employee please make a lefty thumb trackball. |
