Does the trick!,
By Nessa (Parkersburg, WV) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Logitech Notebook Cooling Pad Green Accent (N100) (Personal Computers)
My computer would get so hot while I watching movies or television shows on my computer that it would literally burn my leg. I didn't even want to think about what it was doing to my computer! I'd been looking around for laptop coolers for some time, but the reviews on most were not exactly promising. For a while I almost bought the Belkin cooling pad, but there were several complaints about the location of the fan making it prone to being blocked (which is the problem I have with my computer's fan already!). Then I came across the Logitech N100 cooling pad, and based on the positive reviews and rear air intake designed, I finally decided on this one, and man am I glad!
The first thing I noticed about the pad was how light it was. You won't believe it until you lift it yourself. It weighs next to nothing. It looks nice, too, and will complement any computer. It's plenty big enough to fit my 15.4 inch widescreen computer, and would probably easily fit a computer a couple inches wider. My computer didn't slide on the surface, and it's easy to move the computer while on the pad. They both lift easily together. The curved design leaves a nice area for air to come in under the laptop (one of the main reasons my computer got so hot while on my lap was because there was no space for air to get to the bottom) and it leaves a way for heat to escape. The genius part, however, is the rear air intake. It draws air in from the back, not from underneath the cooler. This is especially effective when I'm laying in bed. I can set the cooler on my plush comforter and air can still get in! Immediately, I was pleased with the USB cable. There's a place on the bottom of the cooling pad where you can sort of thread the cord through so that it stays tight and isn't all over the place and in the way. So I threaded it through in the direction I wanted it and plugged it in. Then I waited...And waited...And waited. Nothing. Or so I thought. It was so quiet that I thought it wasn't working, and I had to lift my computer to check to see if the fan was moving! It was. Now, some people have made a comment about the power of the fan, and I will agree with them that it is fairly low-powered. However, that's not really a problem. Because of the design of the cooling pad, only minimal air is needed. My computer fan has not kicked on since I've had the cooling pad. At the most, my computer will get slightly warm, but even then it's nothing compared to the burns I used to get from it. And it's probably a bit unreasonable to think that a machine doing as much processing as the standard laptop does is never going to get the least bit warm. Overall, I'm immensely pleased with my purchase. It was worth the wait and the price to end up with a light, aesthetically appealing, nearly silent, and highly effective cooler. If you're looking around and haven't made up your mind yet, I'd recommend you give this one more than just a passing glance.

I wish I could give this thing two separate ratings but since I can't I went with 3 stars. I'd give it 5 for design alone. The placement of the fan and its intake are great. I never have to worry about the intake being cut off by my clothing when it's on my lap, a problem I had with my previous laptop cooling pad was a Belkin F5L001 Laptop Cooling Stand. I have also written a review for the Belkin pad.
I'd give it 1 star for the fan. The fan is extremely quiet but that is because it does not move a great deal of air. Since the air flow is very low, it is not adequately cooling my own laptop. While the 2 star reviewer states that the fan is overkill, I'd like anyone reading this to note that laptops vary between manufacturers and models. How hot your laptop gets will vary depending on make/model and even how you're using it. This pad may be good for you if your laptop only gets uncomfortably warm. Unfortunately, this is not the case with my laptop, an older Macbook pro (that I suspect may be on its way out) that gets skin searingly hot to the point that it interferes with the functioning of the laptop. An efficient and working cooling pad is actually a necessity for me. If I could put the fan from the Belkin mentioned above, into this pad it would be perfect.

I had low expectations for this, since I haven't had great experience with cooling pads. They only sort-of work in terms of heat dissipation, and tend to be noisy (or become noisy as the parts wear in).
This one has so far been a very surprising change from the past. It's very quiet, I'm not sure if what I hear is just my notebook, or the pad as well. So I was even more sceptical about the cooling, but it fooled me. So far, my hot-running Dell XPS has been running much cooler, even when I'm doing something cpu-intensive like playing chess. So try it, you might really like it! (The price is a bit steep, in my view, but I guess you get what you pay for.) Note on size: this is about 14.25 x 11 inches, large enough for a 17-inch laptop perhaps.

Perfect Cooler Nah. Updated Review after a year.,

Updated. I enjoyed this laptop cooler overall for the price. I think it keep your laptop cool for everyday use but for gaming or intense software I think you should go with a better option. If your just doing normal everyday stuff such as web browsing, listening to music, etc this is great for the price. My major gripe is that it may have started to kill my laptop battery in the long run (I had to buy a replacement battery), but worse after a year it has stopped working. I wasn't hard on the item at all but it just completely died on me for no reason. Good for the price but don't expect it to be really powerful or last you too long.

I own the LapCool4 which I am very pleased with, and also now have the Logitech N100 to be able to write this review. My neighbor has the Antec, so I have some hands on with that one as well. I downloaded and installed the Everest (brand name) premium application with its 30 day free trial, and that gives me a software based reading of CPU temperature, as well as core temps on the CPU's. I have a dual core chip so it provides readings on each core.
The Logitech N100 has a single fan that produces excellent results. It not only draws air from the underneath area, it also draws air from the rear vent as well. This is a big advantage if you are resting your laptop on a cushion or ottoman while sitting in your easy chair. Other models are only drawing their air from underneath. Wind direction: The Logitech N100 blows air up toward the laptop. The Vantec LapCool4 blows it up toward the laptop as well. That works great with my HP laptop which draws its air from underneath. So all of the air is flowing in one direction. The Antec does the opposite. It draws air away from underneath of the laptop. In addition it is a flat design, allowing very little air to travel between the cooler and the laptop. So it traps the air more. I went over to my neighbor's house, and saw his Antec. It does do a good job of cooling his older hotter laptop. I can only conclude that even though it draws air in the opposite direction that his laptop fans cool, it does a sufficient job of cooling, so much so, that his laptop fans never kick on. If they do, they would be drawing air from the same space. It would be like 2 people trying to draw through opposite ends of the same straw. Nevertheless, other than in principle, it works great. The Logitech N100 Notebook cooling pad has the best configuration if you are planning on using it sitting on your lap part of the time. The reason is that the venting is sitting in the middle from underneath, as well as from the back, and it is streamlined, meaning that there are no projecting flip out feet, like a keyboard has, and also the Vantec LapCool 4 LPC-420 Foldable Notebook Cooler with 4-Port Hub (Black) has. In addition the other top contender, the Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler with its 4 rubber feet/arms is not built to be a lap warmer either. Something worth mentioning is that the LapCool4 comes with 4 powered USB 2.0 ports on the back of it. They include an AC adapter to drive the built in USB hub, but so far with only one or two USB devices plugged into it; I have not had to use the adapter. Since I am using my laptops AC adapter I am assuming it draws sufficient power already. So onto the numbers: Using Everest my results were as follows; I compared the HP laptop sitting on a glass top table without any cooling, to using the Logitech N100 vs. the Vantec LapCool4. In all three conditions, the numbers would fluctuate within a range. Intermittently with use, the numbers would spike quickly to a number well outside of the range, but almost instantly return to the range numbers. The normal range stated is with running programs, and or surfing the web, warming it up so to speak. Here are the numbers; HP Laptop G50-133US with 2.16 dual core mobile processor on glass top without any cooler. CPU 54 to 58 degrees (Measurements in "C" Centigrade) CPU#1/Core1 42 degrees C CPU#1/Core2 43 degrees C Logitech N100 CPU 50 to 51 degrees C CPU#1/Core#1 42 degrees C CPU#1/Core#2 43 degrees C Vantec LapCool4 CPU 49 to 51 degrees CPU#1/Core#1 42 degrees C CPU#1/Core#2 43 degrees C I love the option of using the Logitech on my lap, and with its sleek design, it's a keeper. For the price difference you could buy the Logitech, and if you needed more USB ports, you could pick up the Belkin USB 2.0 4-Port Ultra Mini Hub F5U407 which is less than 10 bucks, and is so small that it may easily fit into your laptop case. Although, for portability, fitting it into your case, both are slim, but the Logitech N100 is 1.9 inches high, and the Vantec LapCool4 even with the built in USB is only .9 inches high because it collapses down for portability or storage. So I cannot say yey this or boo that. They both have great cooling. If you are looking for a great desktop, and lap capable cooler, and don't care about USB expansion, save the money and get the Logitech. If the space in your laptop case is cramped and the extra money for USB capabilities doesn't bother you, get the LapCool4. If you want all of the options available to you, then get both". I wish I could point my finger to just one, but in this case, it's a win-win.

Extremely comfortable and affordable.,
This review is from: Logitech Notebook Cooling Pad Green Accent (N100) (Personal Computers)
I've used a few different lap desks before and most of them have a cloth pad underneath for your legs. The problem with this is the cloth still gets warm from the computer sometimes and it's still not much more comfortable than putting the computer directly on your lap. Most of the pads that I've used like seem cheaply made and don't cost all that much less to buy than the Logitech N100. I'm really happy with it- Its fan cools not only the bottom of the computer, but also your legs which was the main selling point for me in the first place. The design is comfortable on your lap and also works well if you want to place it on a table or desk. My only gripe with the product is that while the USB that comes out from underneath the pad(to power it) can easily plug into either side or the back of your computer(depending on how your computer is set up), it isn't very easy to put away. You have to try and push it back into a slot at the bottom and it always seems to pop back out on me. Other than the cable, though, the pad seems well made and pretty inexpensive. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to keep their computer cool at their desk or away.

With few exceptions, I've found Logitech products deliver everything they promise, and that's saying a lot in these days of shoddy products and poor customer service. This cooling pad is another quality product from a company I've learned to trust.
This is my fourth cooling pad, and the first and only one I am really enthusiastic about. Here's why: *It draws the heat away from my laptop so that it's warm but no longer hot. *The fan is very quiet, and I love the angle of my laptop when it's resting on the cooling pad. *It's kind to my battery, and I do not notice a loss of battery power when using it. I was interested to know whether it would diminish my battery run time, so I measured it with and without the cooling pad, never turning the computer off, although I was not always at the computer. Here's what I found. Without the cooling pad my computer ran on battery power for three and one-half hours. That's with normal on and off use. With the cooling pad plugged in, my computer ran on battery power for three hours, again with normal on and off use. *Rubber pads on the top of the cooler hold my laptop securely in place. This was something of a concern before I tried the cooler because I have a 17" rather than a 15" notebook. *Although it's an inexpensive product, it feels solid and performs well, unlike my previous pads. As for looks, well, to my eye, it appears more functional than beautiful. The two-tone grey on top, green on the bottom leaves me cold. But when it performs so well, who cares if it's not a work of art. After three disappointing cooling pads, I am now happy. I recommend the Logitech Notebook Cooling Pad (N100) without reservation.

I've used other products for my laptops; but this one by Logitech is by far superior to the others! It's quiet; the design is very comfortable on my lap. The USB can be held in place on the bottom in more than one position. Doesn't require a lot of battery power. I'm very impressed with this new laptop cooler!!!

Excellent laptop cooler,

I just replaced my Antec usb-laptop cooler with this one from logitech. The Antec one worked well, but the power cord wouldn't make contact with it's connection after time and the fans wouldn't turn on. I would have to play with it and get it just right for the fans to work. And after a while it has become almost impossible to find the right position for it to work. Plus the blue light got annoying after a while.
I got the logitech cooler today and it fits my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop perfectly. My laptop has a 15.4" widescreen monitor and there is plenty of space for it to sit on the cooler. There is a single fan as compared to 2 on the Antec. The logitech fan is very quiet, it sounds like the fan on my laptop when it tries to cool itself. The curved design is good for creating airflow underneath the laptop, which helps it keep cool. When placing the cooler on a flat surface, there is a slight incline. Some might not like it, but I am fine with it. It helps make typing more ergonomic. When placing the cooler on your lap, there are vents on the bottom that keep your legs cool. The plastic is actually quite comfortable on your legs too. I believe the cooling design for the logitech is definitely better than that of the Antec. There is space underneath the laptop and above the cooler to create airflow away from the laptop. The only drawback is that the Antec came with a usb port so you don't waste one plugging in the cooler. The logitech will take up 1 of your usb ports. I would recommend the Logitech cooler over the Antec. They are pretty much the same price too.

Doesn't actually cool a Macbook Pro,

I purchased this cooling pad b/c Macbook Pro (15"/2009) cooling fans do not kick in fast enough when playing games such as WoW or Dragon Age. My MBP's temp would reach about 230F and the system would freeze b/c of over heating. I thought this cooling pad might help. I like Logitech products a lot and assumed this would be no different considering its good reviews. With this laptop pad my MBP runs at most 1 or 2 degrees cooler... not worth $30. I still use it b/c it keeps my legs from being burned... I found that the free Mac utility SMCFanControl is infinitely more effective than using this product. Additionally, the rubber pads in the center that are supposed to hold your laptop in place do not work very well for the unibody Macbook Pros... mine is constantly sliding down... If your looking for a cooling solution to game on a Macbook Pro, look elsewhere.
