Chillstream,

I used it for 2 hours today while playing Resistance and noticed it does indeed keep your hands from sweating but that's about all it does. The speed control button only works when it wants to and the d-pad gets stuck either in the up or down directions almost every time you try to use it. It also didn't feel as responsive as the SIXAXIS. My biggest complaint though is that there is no PS button! There is no way to go back to the ps3's main menu when you are playing a game or watching a movie without the PS button. You can't even power on/off the system with this controller. Inventive idea but with many flaws.

I got this out of desparation but then found out there is no PS3 button - this renders this thing completely useless except it has a fan which addresses the problem of sweaty hands (what?)

If you don't have a PS3, then the comments by the other reviewers below are probably cryptic. I own a PS3 and when someone said, "No PS button" I realized that it was off my list as a possibility but after reading through the reviews I realized that there were probably a lot of people who would not understand what this means - and were they buying a controller the same day they were buying a PS3, well, they might consider this - Logitech is a good name in keyboards and they usually get it right.
The PS button serves as an "on" button when the PS3 is off, thus allowing you to turn on the PS3 from the controller. (This works whether the controller is wired or wireless). When playing PS2 games on the PS3, you need to push the PS button to reinitialize the controller when stopping or starting the game. When playing PS2 games, you use virtual memory chips that are stored on the hard drive - you "break out" of the game to move the chips to different slots using the PS button. Some games only access the first of the two virtual slots, some access both of them but won't switch where they will save, but you can get the same function as you would with physical chips by breaking into the monitor and moving virtual chips from slot to slot while the game is running (but suspended). When you want to stop a game, ps2 or ps3, you hold the PS button for a couple seconds and a menu comes up. This allows you to determine the state of charge of your controller if you are using it wirelessly, turn off one controller, turn on a controller (so that you can join a game) renumber controllers and so on and so forth. It also provides the only access that allows you to stop a game - which allows you to access the browser that is built in to the system, download demos and complete games and upgrades that might be available through the Sony store and so forth. The point is that without the PS button, the controller is more or less useless - especiallly for PS2 games because they require that you press them to initialize the controller when you start the game. I'm not sure how I could use it - there may be some other way for it to get initialized. Now, I'm currently playing "Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII". I've managed to get as far as the first battle of Midway. It is a game which can be played with or without the tilt - and when the tilt is on, there are two patterns of controls - one puts the rudder on the second stick so that it does the same thing the pedals normally do and that is the one I use. But it would not be a good game without the tilt. I've played it both ways, and, well, tilt just wins. There are a ton of things I hate about the PS3 stock controller (the biggest of which is that the "L2" and "R2" can be hit accidentally too easily, you have no idea how many times I accidentally dropped hand grenades in Tomb Raider - Legend while picking up the controller after a break), but I won't replace it with something that does not have a PS button, and I probably won't replace it with something that does not have the sixaxis stuff. Yes, that probably means I'll be using Sony controllers forever...but Sony could license the fan from Logitech. I expect more games to put real function on the tilt in the future. That will further make controllers like this one less than useful. Maybe there will be a version two with tilt and a PS button - I'd kinda like a bigger controller myself.

I bought this for my son's new PS3. We have returned two of them. The first one did not work at all and the second one would not work with any of the PS3 games. Spend the extra $$ and buy the Sony brand. It is well worth it.

I say it's cheap for a ps3 controller. it's only good when you don't want to spend 50 bucks on another controller for your third or fourth controllers, and for around 15 bucks its worth it. Let's say you already have two sixaxis controllers and just want more controllers to play with some buddies on call of duty 4 or something, this is it. Don't buy it if you going to replace your only controller that has the sixaxis and the PS button, thats the only thing.

Top Notch Secondary Controller,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Logitech Playstation 3 ChillStream Controller (Video Game)
This is a high quality secondary controller that works well on the PS3 and can be used on any PC running XP or higher OS without drivers. The fan is a definate plus, not too noisy, and makes long gameplay literally cool. I found no issues with any of the controls.
Make no mistake about it, this is no direct replacement for the primary wireless controller, but then does every player need to cut the system off mid game? You will need at least 1 true SixAxiS on your PS3 to handle all the administrative functions.

I bought this controller because the Sony controllers are real small and do not fit my hands well. The Chillstream does fit much better and the fans are great.
However, as in the other reviews... the controller goes dead when trying to run PS2 games on my PS3. Also, as mentioned no PS button. I've worked around this by having the Sony controller plugged in the #2 controller spot. This works fine with PS3 games and you can I think Logitech will update their controller soon...but this on is exactly like the PS2 Chillstream and is not worth the Greenbacks at this time. RKip

Logitech may have produced this control a little too soon, before seeing the final model of the standard PS3 control. The one all too obvious flaw that earns it such low ratings from everyone else, would probably be the lack of a Home button, which leaves you stranded in your game without the ability to access the XMB (Cross-Menu Bar). If your someone who chats, and would need to go back and forth a lot I can see this being a hassle. However, If you just play the game until it's time to quit, this is not a problem, just pull the USB out and turn on another PS3 control when your done. The ChillStream's gimmick is to help you if you play for extended periods of time, and notice your hands get sweaty from gripping so tight. If your game is that intense I don't see why you would constantly need to frequent the XMB. Unless for music, but I've had freezing issues from playing music from outside of a game, so I don't even bother with that anymore.
The fan inside has two settings, but the low setting may as well not even be on. High does well to cool my palms while playing racing games, and intently gripping for precision. The shoulder triggers left a bit to be desired, becuase they aren't triggers, they are just larger buttons. They seriously must not have noticed that the PS3 control would be any different from PS2. It is nice to have a wired control, for whenever my PS3 controls finally die, as I'm told they will, and I'm left without the money to fix or replace them. Just out of curiosity I plugged it into my laptop, and it actually found a working driver! so it does work on a Computer as well, fan and all, for that reason I'll add a few points. Should be labeled Logitech Playstation 3/PC ChillStream Controller

Yes, there is no way to turn your PS3 off with this controller, it doesn't support Sixaxis control and it's wired. It's not suited to be your primary controller on the PS3, but as a secondary controller for multiplayer games, it does the job. Control seems responsive enough, though not quite on par with the SixAxis, and I like the design. The internal fans, as laughable as they might seem, are actually a nice touch. I do get sweaty hands on occasion and it feels kind of nice. It's not anything I would have ever asked for, but it's a welcome bonus, if a slightly odd one.
If you're looking for a primary PS3 controller...look elsewhere...this will not work. Without a PS3 button, you can't get back to the guide or turn the game off with it. If you're looking for a cheap (I paid $10 for mine...it's not worth more than $20), secondary PS3 controller that also does duty as a PC USB gamepad, then you could do far worse than the Chillstream controller.

This product is, but not worth the money, there are a few buttons, after 6 months of very light use, stopped working consistently. I don't like how the L2, R2 buttons feel, the official controller is way better, and I wish it was wireless. This would be a 3 or 4 except for the fact that a few of the buttons don't work very well.
