My home system has a 42" LG LCD television connected via HDMI cable and the sound is routed through my Yamaha RX995V stereo home theater receiver and Klipsch speakers all around. Needless to say, this setup provides outstanding realism and ambiance. Now the addition of the wheel makes driving GT5P, F1 Championship Series and Grid that much more immersing.
Sure, the Driving Force GT wheel is better in some ways, but it also $100 more and has it's own flaws. I know because I originally bought the Driving Force GT thinking it would be wireless between the unit and the PS3 but not so. My PS3 is on the other side of the room and I don't really want a ton of wires laying around everywhere because my dog would be knocking things over left and right. The other problems aside from the wires with the Driving Force GT wheel are a) you need a table to attach it to and b) even with a table, you will be very uncomfortable sitting on the edge of your average couch to get close enough to the table to actually race.
The Driving Force Wireless on the other hand sits very comfortably on your lap while you sit back in your favorite chair. No wires laying across the room, although it does require a wall outlet nearby. The force feedback on this unit is surprisingly good. You will feel every bump and whack along the way. The paddles that sit behind your hands on the wheel work effectively as accelerator and brakes, plus the L1/R1 buttons (used for shifting in GT5P) are right there under your thumbs. It took me maybe two races to get the feel down cold.
So hey, if you like to race and you think there is something better out there than the Six Axis Controller you are right, and this is it!
The brake and accelerator are in easy reach of my fingers and the base of the unit expands for comfort.
So...There I am, sitting in bed with the lights out and this steering wheel on my lap... The car I'm driving is doing somewhere over 200 mph, and the force feedback from the steering wheel as I round turns, or drive on the road's shoulder to beat the competition is a PURE RUSH.
I am happy.
Now on the controller. It is wireless, there is a slight delay, but not noticeable at all. You can see the light on the USB dongle when you do anything on this wheel. You can tell how well it responds with that.
There are paddles on this wheel (Brake and Accelerate). They are sensitive and responsive. It you drive out of control, it is hard to brake and accelerate while cornering. If you find yourself doing that too much, you are racing races you shouldn't be racing yet. In GT5, if you race right, this wheel is perfect. GT5 has advanced options for wheels so you can change the paddles to shift up and down and move accelerate and brake to buttons on the wheel. NFS:S offers nothing in customizing wheels.
Nurburgring is still hard. This wheel with not make it any easier. Work on your car's speed during tuning so you can focus on the track itself. It is only one I haven't built a car fast enough yet to win on. At current I have a Ford GT @807BHP and can get to the front, but it is tough to stay there. Mainly because I find myself over-racing.
Gran Turismo is a dream to drive with this Wheel. I know there are wheels out there that out perform this wheel.Read more ›

Great entry level wheel. Works quite well but takes a while to get used to. Certainly not as easy as I thought it would be. Doesn't work with all racing games thoughPublished 13 months ago by Purplehayes
