no charging out of this, but sound is good for the price and size,

Puts out a decent level of sound from an inexpensive set of speakers. It looks best suited for someone that travels with an iPod and wants to listen to tunes at the hotel without sticking the earpods in the ear, and it satisfies that need--quite good sound for such a small unit but of course it's not gonna match the bigger Bose or Apple or Klipsch or similar units that you might sit on your desk. A note of caution--while the description refers to routing the charging cable, this unit does not charge your iPod. All it does about charging is to let you put your separate charging cord from your separate charger through a hole in this unit--don't be mislead by the mention of "holds your iPod cables for charging" that it has anything to do with actually charging your iPod. The travel bag is 13" long by 4" around, which is the size of the unit (it doesn't fold in half or anything like that), so it's fairly portable. Volume is definitely acceptable, as I see some reviews for similar products comment about issues with the volume on those units. Just make sure your iPod volume is turned into the top half so the speaker unit isn't trying to do magic with very low input.

Chintzy design...very misleading pictures,

Based on the pictures shown on Amazon as well as Logitech's web site, one would believe the dropping your iPod into the dock charges and provides the audio connection to the speakeres. You'd be incorrect on both counts. You still have to plug into the computer to charge this thing, and there's a cable (not shown in any of the pictures) that you have to plug into the top of your iPod to make the audio connection.
We returned this item and went with something by Altec Lansing in the same price range instead...we're much happier with it.

For Size and Portability,

This review is from: Logitech mm32 Portable Speaker System for Pod and other MP3 Players(Black) (Electronics)
What you need to know --This is not a docking station --It is simply 2 speakers held together by a plastic holder --The IPOD does not lock in to any prongs, simply rests loosely in the plastic cradle --You can use 4 AA batteries with no AC, however your IPOD does not charge --Comes with an AC adapter, so you can choose this method, although there are better choices if you plan on using AC power --If you wish to simul-charge your IPOD, you must supply your own IPOD charger cable and slip it under this device (it locks in to a small plastic inset) --You can charge your IPOD while you are playing music --Device is weighty and feels pretty solid --Important, there is a hidden headset jack that must be used to play your IPOD-this is NOT SHOWN on any of the pictures, this seems to be deceptive --Sound is respectable for the size, portability and price CONS --The black headset jack. This device would be pretty darn good if it had a bottom loading mechanism to play music --Very little bass and the deeper sounds are just about lost, but again pretty good for the price --Remember to charge your IPOD otherwise you'll have to break out your cable POSITIVES --It's profile, I can hide it on my bathroom vanity and when I'm not using it virtually disappears --I can pick it up and move it to another room--the battery power is nice and AA batteries make it easy to supply --I think it is the best device in it's price range, simply b.c it is so small AND has the battery only option which was critical to me Summary: So if size and using battery power are the most important aspects for you, this is a good choice. I needed something I could use for about 30 minutes a day while I was getting ready for work. This little gadget lays across the back of my vanity and you can hardly tell it's there. It's a bit of a pain to plug in the headset jack, and certainly it is not attractive, but again it's profile was so appealing. I looked at some of the nicer sets, but many came with a transformer or sub woofer, and I wanted something I could stick a few batteries in and pick up and move around if I needed to.

Not what I expected,

This set of iPod speakers was not what I was expecting. We purchased this as a gift for our daughter for Christmas. I have a different set already, for my player, that is plug and play and recharges the iPod at the same time. The description of this does not make it clear that it does neither. You have to plug in the player with a wire that fits up through the bottom of the space between the speakers, it's very awkward and does not hold the player steady. And it does not charge the player. Not worth the money or effort. Sent it back for a refund. Would not recommend.

I thought that the system was excellent. It was exactly what I was looking for. I have a Zune and, unfortunately, they do not have enough products that support it yet. Hopefully, they will release some supporting accessories soon. In the meantime, this is an excellent external speaker system. I was able to take it onto the beach on vacation and enjoy my music. The volume is little low, but not so low that we couldn't enjoy it. I was able to use it for both my Zune and my sons' Ipod. The price was very reasonable. Love the size of it. The carry case is great too. Not alot of extra adjustments, ie: treble or bass. I would highly recommend it.

Update: Comparing the Logitech mm-32 and the Sony SRS-M30 portable speakers,
By Mike (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Logitech mm32 Portable Speaker System for Pod and other MP3 Players(Black) (Electronics)
Since I wrote the description below, the Sony system has apparently been discontinued, and I had an opportunity to use the Logitech system during a two-week stay in Greece during the summer of '08. When possible, I plugged in the Logitech system to 240v European current to preserve the batteries. (My IPod also works on 240v current) The Logitech speakers worked fine on 120v North American current, 240v European current, and the AA batteries, which I did not exhaust during the trip. In use, this small unit had surprisingly good and large sound.
Being long, narrow, and streamlined in its carrying case, the Logitech speaker system slid easily into a corner of my traveling bag. It was very cool to be able to pull this unit and an IPod from my bag and have good-sounding music and historical lectures wherever we went, whether sitting on a veranda or at the beach. June, 2009. My original review follows: In preparation for a month's travel in Europe, I bought both the Sony SRS-M30 and the Logitech mm-32 portable speaker systems, intending to test them side-by-side and return one of them. The Sony is a bit less expensive, smaller, and lighter than the Logitch, but the sound quality is decidedly inferior to the Logitech. The Logitech also includes a slick padded carrying case with a separate compartment for the power supply. But at only 8.4 oz. for the Sony compared to 15.6 for the Logitech, it was a pretty even trade-off between sound and weight. If operating in battery mode, the Sony uses 3 AAAs whle the Logitech needs 4 AAs, increasing the weight differential by 2.2 oz. As I travel with only one carry-on convertible suitcase/backpack, weight is an important consideration. The AC power supply units decided the issue. The Logitech is rated at 100-240v (suitable for both U.S. and foreign use) while the Sony is rated at 120v, limiting it to North America. I returned the Sony.

What is is, a great portable player,

Sound is quite acceptable for a portable unit. I have taken it to the park and sat out in my yard listening to this unit. Volume is good. I even put it on my night stand and watched downloaded TV shows. I used rechargable batteries and have yet to need to recharge them although I charged them once for the heck of it.
The case stores the AC unit in one end and the player in the case easily fits in a lap top bag. Can't wait to take it on business trips. I wanted a quality portable unit and I got one! It can play any mp3 player.

Garbage,
By Rodrigaz G. (New York. NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Logitech mm32 Portable Speaker System for Pod and other MP3 Players(Black) (Electronics)
I bought this for traveling with my iPod and had very low expectation. Should be low cost, small and not totally flimsy.
The size and premise of these speakers are exactly what I was looking for. But the sound, oh the sound, is complete garbage. I wasn't expecting much, not a lot of power, and not top shelf sound definition, but these start distorting the bass at about 25% of their max output, forcing you to turn the sound way down. You can get better sound and more juice out of those $7 unpowered cheap speakers you can find anywhere. A work around is to cut off the extreme bass with EQ. but couldn't they figure that out in the design stages? If you care about sound quality do yourself a favor and skip this.

I recently purchased this item refurbished for $19, with free shipping. It is compact, comes with a nice little case that has a pocket for the AC adapter, and it looks quite attractive, not cheap. When compared to other small speaker systems, the sound is louder and higher quality than I have heard before. It does not have a booming bass, but the bass can be heard, and the mid and high tones are very good, even at full volume. It is able to generate enough sound to fill a cubicle with decent-quality music. It is extremely lightweight - I can stick it in my purse and not notice it's there. I bought it to take to small-group meetings where I'd like to play an audio recording without dragging a boombox. It is perfect for that. I runs on two AA batteries or can be plugged in. Your MP3 player connects to it through the earphone jack, which can be threaded up through the bottom of the player so the cord is hidden. My Sansa player sits sort of awkwardly in the little shelf opening. It does not recharge your player. If I had payed the $79 list price, I would be disappointed with this, but I paid less than 20 bucks, so it is a good value for the money.

Everything you hear about these speakers is amazing-they're reasonably priced, small enough to tote around and if you have the ipod plug-in adapter, the fact that it doesn't charge the ipod at all isn't a problem. BUT- the main problem is I just bought the 2nd generation nano, and there are no adaptors. The 1st generation nano fits, but the 2nd gen does not. I did not forsee this being a problem and now I have to find a way to modify the dock so I can simultaneously charge the ipod and use the speakers.
