Decent Webcam for the Price,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech QuickCam Connect (Silver/Black) (Personal Computers)
This is a decent webcam for the price, but it cannot be compared with higher-end cameras. Overall the installation and configuration is quite simple; load in the drivers, plug in the camera and you're all set. The camera comes with a small program that allows you to adjust certain settings on the camera, such as brightness and hue, and the software also allows for still-picture and video capture. While still pictures can be 1.3 megapixel, unfortunately the highest resolution allows for recording a movie (as distinguished from video chatting) is 640x480. I don't know the reason for this, but it seems to be exclusively to limit users of lower-priced cameras. The software also has some extras, such as the ability to use "filters" that create effects on the image for when you're chatting or recording video. These are pretty useless, but I suppose they're free so there's no sense in complaining. Advanced features like the ability to have avatars instead of your face, or to add digital accessories to your image are limited to the higher-end cameras and can not be used on this device.
The picture quality goes from good (not great) to horrible based, as near as I can tell, on the lighting. With good light, the image does not lag much or get blurry, and it is perfectly adequate for video chatting. As the lighting decreases, so does the image quality, to the point of being almost unusable. If you don't have good lighting in the room where you expect to be using this camera, you're going to have to get a light source or you'll be sorely disappointed with the quality of this camera. As for the audio quality of the microphone, I've been pretty impressed. The software allows configuration of the microphone, which is very nice - you don't feel like you need to shout to be heard, and conversations are very natural. Overall it's a decent cam, but it's worth spending the extra money for better equipment if you're serious about either recording anything (i.e. YouTube monologues or video mail) or making sure that your friends get the best picture of you when you cam.

If you want a cheap webcam for Skype or such, this is it. The software is super easy to install and the quality of the images is great. I use it with my laptop, just plug it into USB port and clip on.

I gave it to my wife and she loves it. After setting it up and playing with it I found that it is a very good product. It does what is says it will do and I and my wife find it simple and easy to use. Now she gets to see the grandkids via web cam.

Great webcam with natural daytime lighting. BUT this camera captures grany and audio and video in low light conditions,
This review is from: Logitech QuickCam Connect (Silver/Black) (Personal Computers)
I was actually impressed for a $20 webcam at Walmart. The webcam has VGA 480 x 640 and 1.3 pix resolution. I must say that the picture is quite clear with no delayed audio to video, along with a nice non-grany capture. EXCEPT - If you buy this quickcam, plan on only recording videos during the day! At night with artificial lighting, this camera does not work well. The capture is grany, with delayed video and audio response. I also use a seperate mic with most webcams. This mic is not all that great. However, for $20 and being able to actually record (during daylight) and upload decent and clear videos to YouTube (which I have) is the reason I give it a 4 star. You get what you paid for, and I never expected the picture quality to be this good during natural daylight

QuickCam Connect - Perfect for basic use,
This review is from: Logitech QuickCam Connect (Silver/Black) (Personal Computers)
The QuickCam Connect is perfect for those who are looking for a basic webcam. Set-up is simple, operation is convenient. The QuickCam Connect also has a focus ring, which allows you to manually focus the image from close to far from the camera, so you don't necessarily have to put it right on top of your computer. Also, the attached stand fits easily onto laptop computers, desktop computers, or can stand alone on a desk or table.

It's not obvious, but this webcam is not compatible with macs! i was looking forward to using the camera when i got it in the mail. it might be a great camera, but there's no mac software and it doesn't work without the software. i have a Powerbook G4 (ancient in computer age), so boo.

Turn off "low light boost" to speed things up.,

This camera is a good deal for the price. However, there was substantial lag, even with a well-lit room, until I turned off the "low light boost" option in the settings menu. Once I did this, things sped up significantly and I'm gonna' keep it.

You can't beat these cameras for the price. The picture quality is wonderful and the ease of installation and operation is outstanding. This is a huge plus for inexperienced users. Highly recommended!

Great for the Money,

Originally we bought another webcam that came in a two pack for $30 just so my parents could use it with skype to see their first grandchild. My webcam is built in and they could see us but we could barely see them. Then I bought this webcam for approx. $30 and it's fantastic, now my daughter can see her grandparents clearly!! My parents are not very computer savvy but were able to set this up. It's basically plug and play. It's great for the quality. Great to use with SKYPE!!!

A poor camera,
This review is from: Logitech QuickCam Connect (Silver/Black) (Personal Computers)
This camera does have a microphone, but requires software different from the other Logitech cameras. I have been unable to get the sound to work on my 3G XP SP3 system despite making sure I have all the sound card updates. It does work on my Vista system, but even then it's not right; the sound and picture are off...my older model 5000 is a much better camera. Don't buy the QuickCam Connect!
