5.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad little device.
The USB Quickcam is a handy little device at a great and affordable price. Installation, for the novice, can be a bit tricky. 1.0 out of 5 stars awful
mac users, please don't bother. on the box it clearly states it's for any OS higher than 8.1, but apparently 9.0 is too much for it to handle. the software hasn't been updated since 1998, and on logitech's website the section for this particular camera is so old and neglected it's coated with dust. the FAQ for the pc version of this camera is ten miles long, but of course...

The USB Quickcam is a handy little device at a great and affordable price. Installation, for the novice, can be a bit tricky. Like most USB devices, it requires the installation of its drivers *before* you plug it in, then a reboot, then plug it in. After that, it is a breeze. It's picture quality and light-level sensing aren't top of the line obviously, and the video playback isn't real time, yet for the price it is unbeatable. Physically, it is a cute little accessory, being essentially a ball on a stand. It perches quite well on the top of most monitors and the camera's angle is adjustable on its stand. It does have problems if you have a US Robotics Sportster modem installed; the modems .inf files cause some sort of conflict with the Quickcam, but it is readily resolvable. A visit to Logitech's homepage will fix this problem. Bottom line? For its price and what it can do, it isa great addition to your computer accessory line-up!

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Product - - - - Poor Support, November 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam VC USB DV Camera ( 961111-0100 ) (Personal Computers)
Installation of the Quickcam VC USB version was rather easy as long as you paid attention to instructions. The camera worked good for still pictures, videos, and teleconferencing for about 3 months, then suddenly quit. Logitech's customer support does not have an 800 number so trouble shooting was expensive. After determining that the camera was indeed defective it was returned for a replacement. They sent the wrong version (parellel). Numerous phone calls, costing upwards of $20 have yet to settle the matter. Again, I enjoyed the product but Logitech's support doesn't support.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic, cheap and easy to use home camera, September 11, 1999

The QuickCam color was my first USB device and was incredibly easy and quick to set up. The other reviewer is right on the money telling you to make sure to set up the software before attaching the camera. The camera has good quality, a broad array of easy to use features for movie and static pictures, and simple software which will even allow you to set up a live 'webcam' in minutes. A great purchase.

My dad got two of these so that I could video conference with my family from college. I was really excited, until I discovered that it was practically impossible to get a connection going. My dad works with computers for a living, and even he couldn't figure out how to make these things work. Before you buy one of these, make sure you have, like, the person who designed it on hand, or you'll never get it working :-)

1.0 out of 5 stars not really Mac compatable, October 18, 2006
By
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam VC USB DV Camera ( 961111-0100 ) (Personal Computers)
I bought this camera because it was advertised to be Mac compatible. Unfortunately, it only works with Mac OS 9 and below, which haven't been produced since 2002 or so. Also, the design of the camera is such that you have to place it at eye level (it doesn't pivot up enough) and yet there's no way to attach it to a laptop. So you have to place it on top of a pile of books or something to have it angle correctly.

Too bad. I was hoping it would be an inexpensive camera to use in talking with my husband overseas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera, Bad Connection, September 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam VC USB DV Camera ( 961111-0100 ) (Personal Computers)
The camera itself is great to send pictures/videos to family around the country. However, I sent another logitech camera to family and we can't connect to do the live interactive video. We've both been trying repeatedly, we can get voice, but not pictures. Not sure what we're doing wrong, but after hours of trying and reading the instructions verbatim, we can't connect with pictures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reliable, Easy-to-use Webcam, July 21, 2002
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam VC USB DV Camera ( 961111-0100 ) (Personal Computers)
For those simply looking for a low-end Webcam and not intending to do anything requiring serious quality, this is a good choice. The software is easy to install (on an iMac, which I use) and includes plenty of options... including the ability to use this device as a "security camera." The image quality is rather grainy, so diehard multimedia creators should definitely steer away from this item, but the average home user is likely to be quite satisfied with this small camera.

I use this connected to a seven-port hub, and the camera still works quite well despite having many other devices also attached to the hub. However, whenever I activate the software for the camera, the Zip drive and floopy drive - both connected to the USB hub - shut down. This may be a potential drawback, especially for those for whom directly-connecting the camera is not an option due to the need for other peripherals.

Interestingly, I also have MyVideo (USB video capture/outout device) connected to my iMac. Whenever I open the MyVideo software for video capturing, the image from the QuickCam VC shows up in the MyVideo window! This almost certainly means that both devices are using the same set of system calls or video drivers. Therefore, if using the QuickCam VC in conjunction with other video-related equipment on the same computer, a few "surprises" may appear. (In my case, this simply means switching the video source within the MyVideo program.)

This is a great little tool. The picture quality is good and USB makes it a breeze. I've had mine for over a year and had no problems with it. I highly recommend this product for someone who is looking for a reasonably priced quickcam product.

I have other products made by logitech, and I have to agree that the support isn't excellent. I've had to return a cordless wheel mouse two times, but I'm still happy with the product. Their support line should be toll-free.

1.0 out of 5 stars quality stinks, August 30, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam VC USB DV Camera ( 961111-0100 ) (Personal Computers)
the picture quality is really bad, and you can only adjust the hugh of the color with red or blue. the focus is not as sharp as *actual* photograph on the box. Installation was real easy, but so what, I needed the quality as promised, not ease. and that was just for the teleconferencing. For the video it look like something out of a science fiction space film alot of newton rings and special effects, way cool if I wanted them , no way to correct this, lord knows we tried.
