4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it's supposed to do!, December 10, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Deluxe (Personal Computers)
I really like my webcam. The picture is very clear on MSN messenger and Yahoo. Furthermore, it works fine for me with only one light on in the room. My fiance has a much more expensive camera that is grainy with a brown-tint to the picture. In contrast to his camera, mine is clear.

The clip: For me, the clip worked fine. I have a Toshiba Satellite. Also, having no desire to move the webcam all around, the short cord is sufficient.

Overall, happy with my purchase. I have a logitech headset (note: Without the headset I did experience an echo when I talked) that I use with the camera.

I like the camera, and am (thus far) not disappointed.

Happy Shopping!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good product; Easy to install. Does what it is supposed to..., December 29, 2005

This review is from: Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Deluxe (Personal Computers)
I researched different webcam/videophone solutions in order to purchase a gift for my in-laws and my daughter to communicate long distance. I wanted the easiest solution for them since they are not computer literate. Cost wasn't the first factor but I didn't want to spend $500 on a crappy solution. I looked at a couple of videophones, they seemed to be easy but they were definatley more expensive, and the reviews they were getting were not good. So I decided to go with a webcam, they were cheaper and had better reviews.

Since we both had laptops I chose the QuickCam. Let me start off by saying that it fit perfectly on both dell laptops. It was extremely easy to install on both laptops (running XP). I am not a manual reader so at first I was playing around with the software until I realized that the actual video conferencing software needed a subscription. So I decided to try a free messesnger webcam viewer. I tried Yahoo Messenger and found it to be very confusing. You had to broadcast, and sometimes you got super broadcast; and sometimes not even though I always have broadband.

That experience prompted me to try the software that logitech offers. They offer a 30 day free trial; so I downloaded, installed and registered. It worked great, the picture is clear and there is very little delay. It is easy to use and fairly impressive software. It really enhanced the camera experience.

The bottom line is that this camera is great for the price. If you want to fiddle around with 3rd party software (aol, yahoo, msn) the cost really great, but performance may take a hit. If your company owns professional software for video conferencing the cost is great. If you use logitechs videocall both parties need to use it and be subscribed with defferent accounts boosting the cost. BUT there is little delay, and it is easy to use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of undisclosed audio issues with Logitech webcams, February 25, 2006
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Deluxe (Personal Computers)
Before buying this camera, go to the Logitech website user-discussion forums, and you will see that many users (myself included) have problems when videoconference with this (and other) Logitech webcams. The problem is that during video/audio conferencing over the Internet, the audio will go bad and result in pure static. The only way to resolve the issue is to end the call and start over, or put the call on hold and then resume a few seconds later. This is really annonying as it can happen multiple times per minute. The issue is certainly a HW or SW issue, as it is platform independent and occurs with Skype, MSN, AOL, etc. Logitech aupport has given no feedback on their website, and I will be returning my camera to the buyer or requesing a refund from Logitech for a defective product.
