I really like my webcam. The picture is very clear on MSN messenger and Yahoo. Furthermore, it works fine for me with only one light on in the room. My fiance has a much more expensive camera that is grainy with a brown-tint to the picture. In contrast to his camera, mine is clear.

I really like my webcam. The picture is very clear on MSN messenger and Yahoo. Furthermore, it works fine for me with only one light on in the room. My fiance has a much more expensive camera that is grainy with a brown-tint to the picture. In contrast to his camera, mine is clear.

The clip: For me, the clip worked fine. I have a Toshiba Satellite. Also, having no desire to move the webcam all around, the short cord is sufficient.

Overall, happy with my purchase. I have a logitech headset (note: Without the headset I did experience an echo when I talked) that I use with the camera.

I like the camera, and am (thus far) not disappointed.

Happy Shopping!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good product; Easy to install. Does what it is supposed to..., December 29, 2005

This review is from: Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Deluxe (Personal Computers)
I researched different webcam/videophone solutions in order to purchase a gift for my in-laws and my daughter to communicate long distance. I wanted the easiest solution for them since they are not computer literate. Cost wasn't the first factor but I didn't want to spend $500 on a crappy solution. I looked at a couple of videophones, they seemed to be easy but they were definatley more expensive, and the reviews they were getting were not good. So I decided to go with a webcam, they were cheaper and had better reviews.

Since we both had laptops I chose the QuickCam. Let me start off by saying that it fit perfectly on both dell laptops. It was extremely easy to install on both laptops (running XP). I am not a manual reader so at first I was playing around with the software until I realized that the actual video conferencing software needed a subscription. So I decided to try a free messesnger webcam viewer. I tried Yahoo Messenger and found it to be very confusing. You had to broadcast, and sometimes you got super broadcast; and sometimes not even though I always have broadband.

That experience prompted me to try the software that logitech offers. They offer a 30 day free trial; so I downloaded, installed and registered. It worked great, the picture is clear and there is very little delay. It is easy to use and fairly impressive software. It really enhanced the camera experience.

The bottom line is that this camera is great for the price. If you want to fiddle around with 3rd party software (aol, yahoo, msn) the cost really great, but performance may take a hit. If your company owns professional software for video conferencing the cost is great. If you use logitechs videocall both parties need to use it and be subscribed with defferent accounts boosting the cost. BUT there is little delay, and it is easy to use.

The problem is that during video/audio conferencing over the Internet, the audio will go bad and result in pure static. The only way to resolve the issue is to end the call and start over, or put the call on hold and then resume a few seconds later. This is really annonying as it can happen multiple times per minute. The issue is certainly a HW or SW issue, as it is platform independent and occurs with Skype, MSN, AOL, etc. Logitech aupport has given no feedback on their website, and I will be returning my camera to the buyer or requesing a refund from Logitech for a defective product.

Quality of the video is excellent on Yahoo messenger. The face tracking is so so. Audio is good on messenger. Works great for video mail through Comcast.
You can take a snapshot like a digital cam with a button on the unit (once it is clamped down), or hold it and use like digital cam.
This would have been 5 stars if the clamp was worth a crap. It is useless out of the box on my Toshiba A75 laptop. It would have been better just to let it hang on the LCD rather than this clamping design. Velcro here we come!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected, November 7, 2005

I purchased one of these last week for my laptop based on the reviews I found here. Since it's a lower cost item I wasn't expecting more than basic quality, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

The picture quality is absolutely excellent. The color on screen isn't all that true to life, but the clarity and the resolution of the picture was really good. We experimented with the still pictures and with making videos to email to friends last night. Both of those features work perfectly. The storage albums and the photo/video editing tools were also easy to use and worked flawlessly.

I wasn't all that impressed with the face tracking. It does work, but I'm not sure it's that great of a feature. For certain, it's not good if more than one person is in the picture (not surprising) since it tries to center on one person and cuts the other person out. The feature can be turned off though and then you can put several people in the shot with no problems.

I was expecting the size of the files to be a real problem for my email since I have dial-up at home. Again I was pleasantly surprised. I sent a 30 second video via email to a friend and it sent in only a few seconds. I also sent 5 of the photos in one email and that also sent instantly. I was thrilled with that based on previous experiences with other media files.

Other people have commented on the clip being a terrible design, but it worked fine on my Dell laptop. It is a little odd to figure out, but once you do, it's a good design. (More instructions for that would be useful.) I do wonder how well the clip will hold up under repeated use long term (will it stay tight or will it eventually become loose and not hold anymore) but for now I'm satisfied.

The size and appearance is also appealling. It was smaller than I'd imagined it would be when I researched it online. Kinda cute actually.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is using it for online chat. I'll do that later this week when I'm on a high speed connection. Based on it's performance so far, I would expect that to also be a first rate experience. (I wouldn't expect it to be good on my dial-up, though I will try it and see when I get a chance.)

The setup was simple and straightforward. I'm only moderately computer savvy and I had no difficulty at all in understanding the instructions or loading the software. Both the software and the device are very user friendly in my opinion.

Overall this is a really excellent product for the price and I'd highly recommend it to anyone in the market.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Cam - Does it's Job Well!, October 3, 2007

I have reviewed many of the webcams for sell here and consistantly see a 4 or 5 star product (such as this) get downgraded to a 1 star because of operator error or not applying common sense. Here is my take:

1.) The Cam is half the price and just as good as most of the other webcams out there
2.) The picture is clear and fairly crisp with adequate lighting provided. Stays in focus and works great with Yahoo IM as I use it.
3.) The still camera is a bonus - great for a little something extra if you need it
4.) Small, compact design and clips right on top of most all laptops without looking too out of place and can be thrown into the case with it when traveling.

A little advice for the nay-sayers...If it locks up your system - it could mean that either:
a.) you did not have enough light provided (it was overloaded constantly trying to update frame to frame - take a picture in the dark with no flash and let me know how it turns out...now go make a movie - duh);
b.) you were overloading your old, outdated computer from 6 months ago (kidding - mine is 3 years old and it works fine when used correctly);
c.) or you are using Windows Vista (Get a MAC or go back to XP)

If you want a high-speed, low drag web cam that fits and operates perfectly with your laptop - Then you SHOULD HAVE HAD IT BUILT INTO your laptop! This is an ADD-ON. Spend the extra $200 next time you upgrade hardware.

I use this daily from Iraq, with Yahoo Voice on a 1MB internet connection (IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT IF I'M LUCKY) and have had zero, zilch, nada, no problems what so ever on a 3 year old outdated Hp Laptop(XP) with one broken light in my room...and the picture is still 10x better and the cam is 1/4 the size of the one I had 3 years ago last time I was here - for the same price.

My 5 cents worth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good video - static problems with audio, September 11, 2005
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Deluxe (Personal Computers)
I wanted a small compact camera for sending video emails of our newborn overseas. The Logitech was hard to find - after going to three local electronics stores (all whose websites said the product was available) I could not find anyone in our town who had one. Amazon was about $15 cheaper anyway, even after shipping.

The camera itself is nice and compact. Carrying case avoids it getting scratched and damaged. Video quality is good, even in low light although the low-light adjustment can make the picture a little washed out. Have had problems with static on the audio track - after having to pay a long distance call (no 1-800 number) to Logitech, found out that the speakers on the laptop are interfering with the mic. Have to mute the sound when recording. Kind of a pain if you forget and have to retake video, but an updated driver is supposed to come out soon.

All in all, one of the better web cams I have ever purchased/used.

Trust me buddy....after seeing different brands of webcams I have come to this conclusion that Logitech is the best in the industry.... well I am not talking about the entry level webcams where it is difficult to compare as they all suck.

This one is as good as it gets. Look around for a decent discounted price (after instant or mail-in-rebate) and grab yours. This is perfect for my laptop. It fits nicely, the picture quality is great both under natural and artificial lighting conditions. It has a lovely face-tracking feature that gets you out of those days of webcams where you had to sit stiff without any movement.

The form factor is perfect - it is real tiny !! I don't understand why a lot of people complain about fitting problems. The fitting clamp is stretchable and expands upto one inch and that should be more than enough unless you are trying to set the cam on a desktop monitor !!!

Get one with your eyes closed !

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent picture quality even in low light.., October 8, 2006
This review is from: Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Deluxe (Personal Computers)
Almost all webcams out there have good image quality when there is lots of light. What separates the men from the boys in the webcams category is low light performance. Cheaper webcams will produce crappy images - with lots of noise and grain.

I am very happy to report that this webcam, small though it is, renders excellent images in all light conditions.

The built in mic is good quality too. Sound is clear and loud.

I dont know why so many people had issues with the clip on this cam.. The clip is adjustable, so it can be pulled out to accomodate screens upto 3/4 inch thickness.. I dont think there are any laptop screens that thick anymore.

I did not use the software that came with the cam. Just install the drivers and you are good to go.

In summary, this one is a keeper. Recommended.

I purchased this webcam for use with Skype on a Mac laptop. It was very easy to install and clips nicely to the screen. For use with Mac I had to install macam (http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/) for it to work. It is good, I did not give it 5 stars as with a lot of light the image is not great, but works very well in dim light.
