the Refurbished Model does not have the advertised 3 year warranty, it is only 90 days despite what Amazon claims. It broke early, they patched it up and are trying to pass this lemon onto someone else with a short waranty. I picked up one for under thirty and it stopped working right in less than 4 months, right after the waranty ran out. If the extended waranties can be added (and I'm not sure they can on refurbished) it might be worth it, since it was a pretty nice mouse while it worked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable, very configurable, very good price!, March 27, 2008

This review is from: Logitech Refurbished MX Revolution Laser Mouse (Black) (Personal Computers)
I have tried a large number of wireless mice. Most, I find, have one design flaw or another and cause my hand and arm to hurt after a short time. I was specifically looking for a mouse that had a thumb button that could be configured as double-click, as this is a function my wife depends on. I also wanted a smooth scroll wheel, and a design with some sort of thumb rest and a slight angle to the right. The Logitech MX Revolution seemed to fit the bill and, refurbished from Amazon, was a bargain as well!

The mouse arrives in a plain brown box, which is fine with me as I'm tired of disposing of reams of plastic overpackaging. In addition to the mouse, charging stand and USB receiver (all of "like new" appearance), there was an instruction sheet, warranty note (90 days), and software on CD. [...]

I set the mouse up and found it very comfortable. But when I went to configure the thumb wheel as double-click, I found that this was not an option! Only a few actions could be assigned to the thumb wheel. Worse, neither of the two buttons above the thumb wheel could be set as double-click! So close, yet so far...

Before packing the mouse up to return it to Amazon, I went to the Logitech user forum and looked to see if someone else had a solution for this. Not finding one, I posted a query. The next day I got a response from a Logitech support rep suggesting a non-Logitech tool called "Uberoptions". While cautioning that this was not affiliated with Logitech, a quick web search found it. Uberoptions is a free tool that allows supreme configurability of recent Logitech mice and keyboards, including the MX Revolution. And, yes! Double-click for the thumb-wheel was now available! Saved!

So I'm keeping the MX Revolution. My wife likes it (though she comments that it's a bit big for her smaller hands) and it performs well. The free-wheeling scroll wheel is interesting and it works as advertised. I will find this very handy. I have little interest in the search button.

As for battery life, it's a bit too early to tell and perhaps I'll update this review later as I get more experience.

Viva la Revolution!

Edit six months later: I'm still lovin' the Revolution. Battery life seems quite good, though most days I put it back on the charger when I close down for the night. The only oddity is that once every several weeks the mouse stops responding - unplugging and reconnecting the transmitter fixes this. Haven't had to do it in a month or more, though - hardly worth mentioning.

I find the shape of the Revolution extremely comfortable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dead on Arrival, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Logitech Refurbished MX Revolution Laser Mouse (Black) (Personal Computers)
Just got this in the mail, refurbished. Serial number is Sharpie'd out, which might be normal, but what isn't normal is that it just plain doesn't work.

I look very carefully and I see the laser is active and clicking the scroll wheel cycles between the free-spinning and ratcheting modes, but there's no response from my computer. Meanwhile, the dongle plugs in and (after installing the software) is recognized as a MX Revolution dongle but there's otherwise no response.

My roommate has the same mouse, bought new. Theirs works on their computer. Theirs works on my computer. Mine doesn't work on their computer. Mine doesn't work on my computer.

My guess: mismatched dongle and mouse. Some sort of communication issue there.

I can't believe this passed whoever is doing Quality Control on this stuff.

I've always wanted this mouse but was having trouble paying the full asking price. However, these refurbished mice are great! I can't tell that it's referbed and no one else I know can either. They keep their charge well, I usually have to charge it once a week and thats with 3-4 hours of use a night. I really love the scroll wheel, both on the side and the free scrolling wheel on top.

The software is something to be desired (setpoint) but the program uberOptions (Goolge it) allows you to customize each button. It give you a lot more control over what buttons do what.

A fantastic Mouse!

3.0 out of 5 stars Very nice mouse IF and only IF you..., March 10, 2009
This review is from: Logitech Refurbished MX Revolution Laser Mouse (Black) (Personal Computers)
__DO__ BUY THIS MOUSE __BUT__ (a warning to Mac users)...

I am only posting this review in an attempt to save others from the hours of problems I have had... and since I think Amazon is one of the __very best__ internet 'stores' I would not like you to have to return the mouse as 'broken' simply because you can not make the MX Revolution work. Also I am rating this mouse with only 3 stars because I have wasted so much time getting it to work. The mouse deserves 4 1/2 stars but the software driver Logitech makes available deserves less than zero stars... consequently 3 stars. Logitech's software is __extremely__ limited, and __incredibly__ buggy. Do not take my word for it... read the reviews on Amazon's site about Logitech's software and go to Logitech's own forums and see all of the horrible things users have to say about the drivers.

WARNING FOR MAC USERS!!! You CAN get this mouse to work beautifully BUT...

In my hours of troubleshooting... ONLY if you are willing to purchase USB Overdrive will you be able to do this. I'm very serious and I have absolutely no business or financial relations with USB Overdrive[...].

It is the ONLY driver that I have found that will reassign all but one of the buttons. (The 'Search' button on the top is not coded as a mouse so unless you use an app like ControllerMate that can NOT be used WITH USB Overdrive installed... you can kiss the top 'Search' button off... i.e. totally useless). And ControllerMate... though a great driver... will take you an afternoon to learn how to use it (no kidding... complex). USB Overdrive will even allow you to map the tilt-scroll wheel as buttons so you will have more 'buttons' on the top. LCC will not and SteerMouse will not... that is... you will believe that they did but the settings will not stick.

I spent hours trying to get Logitech Control Center to work... don't waste your time. LCC is the proprietary software that comes with the mouse... oh... except for in the case of the Mac driver... it does not even come on the included CD... only the PC software does... Mac users have to go to the Logitech website and download LCC. No big deal if it worked... but it does not.

Even SteerMouse's remapped button-commands do not stick and when a button is pushed it may or may not even be highlighted in SteerMouse's preference pane window. So unless you already know what button number SteerMouse will give your command... you will have to do a lot of trial-and-error (i.e. moving back-and-forth between the SteerMouse window and how it will affect the action you perform by clicking on something in the OS).

I have owned a Logitech MX 1000 for years which has been an excellent mouse, but it is no longer available from Logitech and starts at around $150 on the internet. I am a professional digital artist [...]. so I really do know my mice (as well as Wacom tablets). I say this so you will realize Logitech does make excellent mice though their drivers have always been pathetic (again... do a search of the reviews on Amazon and Logitech's own forum and you will see that I am not exaggerating).

I hope this review saves purchasers AND Amazon nightmares and RMAs (Return Merchandise Authorizations).
I don't recall ever posting a review before at Amazon so I hope the time I have taken to post this lengthy review helps.

I would say 'Good Luck'... but if you follow my advice you will not need it.

Enjoy!

Thought this was a good buy. Turned out to be a bad one. It just wouldn't work out of the box. Logitech customer service did their best but concluded it was a bad one and I was to return it.

Contacted Amazon and received wonderful "return policy" service. I sent it back pre-paid and my account was credited in a very short time.

Shame on Logitech for selling "refurbished" products that will not work.

Praise to Amazon for their return policy.

It's a great mouse when it works. Unfortunately it has a design flaw where the free spinning mouse wheel mode will stop working (in one direction or both directions). I received a unit where this flaw was present from day one. When I called Logitech, they said they could not help me with a refurbished unit. If you could rely on this model long term, a refurb unit would be fine, but you can't. I suggest that you buy another model or buy this model new. It's a great mouse, but 90 days isn't enough time to save it from itself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Mouse- Terrible Quality and Custiomer Service from Logitech, October 10, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logitech Refurbished MX Revolution Laser Mouse (Black) (Personal Computers)
I bought this mouse (a refurb model) back in March of last year. I got the mouse liked it and it worked great. Great design and ergonomics. I got addicted to the multiple buttons and the awesome scroll wheel. Then last week, 9/29, the mouse stopped charging. When I put it on the charger the battery indicator would flash red and the mouse would not charge. I searched the internet and logitech's website for a solution to the problem. There's no way that a mouse battery would just stop working. I own many electronics with lithium batteries and when a battery goes dead, they don't just stop working. I thought there could be some way to reset the battery or something. I e-mailed them just looking for advice on how to fix it or if my mouse was dead. I have still gotten no response to my e-mails (it's now 10/10). So I figured that their e-mail service was just extremely slow. So I figured I could give them a call and maybe they could help me figure it out. The call started out well, the service rep sounded a little annoyed to be at work on a friday night, but all was ok. Then he asks me for the part number and serial number of the mouse. I told him that there was a sticker over them and that the mouse was refurbished and that the warranty was up. I responded that I knew and was just calling to find out if they could give some pointers about trying to fix the battery problem, because once again, a battery does not just randomly stop working. The conversation descended into a strong discussion into the life of a lithium battery and then he hung up on me. Just hung up. The worst customer service phone call I have ever had. So that's that. I will never buy ANYTHING logitech again. I know that my product was out of warranty but I have corresponded with several other firms regarding purchases that were out of warranty (examples are gateway, hp, sony, and some sketch software companies that operate over the internet)and I still got some sort of help. So that's the bottom line. Great product, terrible customer service. So I wouldn't take the risk with this one. Like I said, I bought this same refurb mouse 6 months ago and no I have a $60 dead mouse. Not worth it. DON'T BUY!

2.0 out of 5 stars Watch the warranty, September 29, 2008
This review is from: Logitech Refurbished MX Revolution Laser Mouse (Black) (Personal Computers)
The MX revolution was the finest mouse I have ever owned for 7 months. After 7 months the mouse began to perform a double click when only single clicking the mouse button. I began a dialog with Logitech and they determined the mouse to be defective. However, the refurbished model only has a 90 day warranty. I would suggest buyers avoid refurbished Logitech products for this reason. I felt that purchasing a refurbished Logitech would be relatively safe, having believed that it had been gone over twice. Let the buyer beware.

I have bought many refurbished products and this one unfortunetly is just a plain lemon. There is a widespread common problem with this mouse. The mouse will not charge. When you put the mouse in the charging cradle, it will start to charge and then flash red and try again. Over and over try to charge and then flash red while never actually charging.

Note to Amazon: Love you guys but I would push this batch of junk back to Logitech. It isn't worth taking negative feedback on defective products. I would pull this product off your site immediately. How bad could it be?? Pull a refurbed Logitech MX Revolution mouse off your warehouse shelf and plug in. If you get a flashing red light after 5 minutes of charging or so, DEFECTIVE.
