This is the last refurb remote I will invest my energy into!
    Byron David Graham
I don't know if these problems are due to the fact that I bought a refurbished model or not, but if you are not a patient person then this remote is almost unusable.
    David
Once that's accomplished, everything is set more or less on 'automatic pilot' and there's very little to worry and a lot to enjoy.

My 900 was brand-new and I've been using intensively (3 kids) since August 2009, I believe and it's as good today as it was on 'day one'. It controls 9 devices and 7 separated activities. I am also using a refurbished 880, for some 3 years. It came 'as new' at the time but the 880's are a little quirky when it comes to charging and 2 buttons on mine, including the 'volume up' are no longer responsive. But the 880 is not dead yet because I was able to assign the 'volume' function to 'soft buttons.

Depending on the price difference between refurbished and 'new', buying refurbished could be a good decision. I got my 880 for $69.99 so it was a great deal. By the time the 2 buttons stopped working it would have been out of warranty if it was brand new anyway.

    BRIEF EVALUATION

The Harmony 900 can replace all infrared (IR) remotes used to control the various devices associated to an entertainment center. Once configured, its activity-centric interface effectively shields the user(s) from having to explicitly control individual devices, unless they want to. The Harmony will allow 'everyone', including the less technical members of a household to get the most off an entertainment center's capabilities without having to worry about switching the remote's 'modes' or remembering the correct I/O ports before watching a Blu-ray movie, watching TV or listening to the radio.

As compared to its immediate predecessor models (880, 890), the Harmony 900 offers a number of incremental but generally welcome improvements or changes

    - Ergonomic shape, well-balanced body with sculpted buttons for a tactile feel.
    - Surprisingly good, hi-res, full color touch screen that allows for up to 6, context defined 'soft' buttons.

I bought this primarily for its RF blaster. I was very excited that I was going to be able to hide all of my equipment in the closet. Unfortunately when using RF there is a noticeable lag when controlling devices. When you click a button the remote seems to wait for the blaster to confirm that it received the signal before it allows you to push another button. What ends up happening is the remote queues the commands and issues them all at once. So when I try and turn up the volume nothing happens and then all the sudden the volume jumps up and is now to loud.

I don't know if these problems are due to the fact that I bought a refurbished model or not, but if you are not a patient person then this remote is almost unusable. My wife doesn't even like to have control of the remote anymore since it frustrates her so much.

from a longtime harmony owner/user and advanced home theater guy

    overall a great product!

    pro's

    1. RF system is great, finally able to hide all the equipment !!
    2. the new design is more balanced and easier to hold than previous versions

    cons

    1. When operating on RF only, it seems to have a short lag between the command the action by the device
    2. The RF module only has 3 blasters (1 main and 2 others) and has no more outputs for additional ones (suppose you have to buy another kit)
    3. The page up and direction keys are too close together and sometimes I get them mixed up
    4. The new mute and previous buttons are very small

Beware of the refurbished remotes!!! Logitech sells allot of refurbished 900 remotes on Amazon, which does ask the question. Why are these remote so technically flaud that they sell so many refurbs? Moreover who is actually verifying that the reburb is technically working now? I purchased a remote two weeks ago and it died the next day. Basically, the screen would no longer boot. It seems like I am gambling every time I buy a refurb remote. So far this year I have return three refurb 900's and not returned any non-refurb. This is the last refurb remote I will invest my energy into! Stop selling this product Amazon!

This is a great remote so far overall. Only hiccups were during the set up, largely caused by my equipment configuration. I have two rooms of components in a single cabinet, and both configs have similar cable boxes (Cox, Scientific Atlanta and theater amps, Yamaha). While both have infrared capabilities, I was trying to also take advantage of the RF capability of this remote to increase the functionality of the remote (i.e., not having to point at the IR sensor). Unfortunately, even using the more focused mini blasters, I couldn't get a working config in the cabinet that would reliably only operate one room (e.g., either channels would change in both rooms or neither). I spent way more time fussing with this than Logitech advertised it would take, including multiple syncs with my PC and a long time with Logitech support, but in the end, mostly just using the IR functions (RF for xbox only). Still, now that it's set up, it has functioned great and I think it's easy to use and understand. My wife on the other hand...!

I'd suggest that you consider a different model if you don't need the dual IR/RF capabilities, but the ability to change easily as I change components is fantastic.

Also, Logitech support was great and Amazon customer service was amazing! This would be a better world if every business treated their customers like Amazon does!
