I purchased the Logitech Rx1000 about 9 months ago as a gaming and working mouse, and I've got to say, it's performed perfectly thus far.

For gaming, it's wired and it's USB, both pluses for the required instant response time. It has a very high DPI for perfect accuracy and it moves easily without being too light.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too sensitive when lifted
This mouse works smoothly and is quite accurate. The problem is that the laser allows this mouse to move the cursor even when the mouse is lifted 1/4 inch off the surface of the desk. This is a real problem of you want to move the mouse a long distance across the screen using a move-lift/center-move gesture. For example, if I want to move the cursor from the left of...

This review is from: Logitech Rx1000 Scroll Tilt Laser Mouse (Personal Computers)

For productivity and windows usage, the clicking has a perfect feel, the buttons are in finger-predictable spots, the scroll wheel almost never gets stuck in that in-between spot where just tapping it will force a web page to scroll up & down (If it does get stuck, hold the wheel down hard and scroll up and down a few times, it will fix itself). Sideways scrolling via the scroll wheel is easy, and the scroll-wheel-click is firm but not difficult.

This is the first non-trackball mouse I've owned that doesn't omit that terrible eye-blinding laser you have to watch your kids around. I didn't know that when I purchased it, but now I think I'll never go back. It works so well! It tracks really well on nearly every surface, so I've completely ditched the mouse pad, which I've wanted to do for years. This mouse never "floats" like every one of the older laser mice I've used -- you know, where you put the mouse down on one spot in your desk, and it just mysteriously walks around by itself. That problem is solved here, as well as cleanliness problems had by many other mice, where they have a ridge around the sides that somehow collect any and every piece of dirt from your hands and saves it so that you can never truly clean it. This mouse is almost completely seamless on all sides. On the cleanliness note, I do scrape the mouse-crud from the gliders on the bottom every few months, but they're flat and the gunk scrapes off easily.

One, very small possible downside, is it feels a little different than some mice - it's a different shape - narrower. I have a medium-sized hand, and it feels fine, but I could see someone with much larger hands having trouble. Actually, I think it helps save me from repetitive stress, forcing me to handle it a little differently than my hand is used to, so I would call it a plus for me.

Also - I would NOT recommend installing the Logitech software. The drivers are useless if you have XP, Vista or better (and works fine in Linux), and not installing the drivers disables the completely useless "search button". The button itself is low-profile, but accidentally hitting it a few times will give you a new lesson in anger management.

Overall, I've loved owning the Rx1000 Logitech mouse, and would recommend to everyone I know.

The RX1000 Laser has performs very well to my standards. The sensitivity of the laser vs. an optical tracking device is pretty evident and can be adjusted very precisely using the available software which can be downloaded from [....]. I am a student majoring in architecture so I use this mouse alot for graphic design, layouts, 3D modeling, and general use; the side scroll works great when a program recognizes it; often times though, the programs don't.

The additional search button allows you to highlight anyword in any application and automatically search for that word on the internet using your internet browser's set search engine (makes googling that much better). However, it can be customized to a variety of functions. You can also set the scroll button function, however, this often takes precedence over any function it may have in a specific program.

Also, this mouse is very light, making it great to carry around with your laptop - no need to carry around one of those itty-bitty mice that dont really fit that well in your hand. For the price, I don't think you can find a better mouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent ambidextrous mouse, May 15, 2009

Logitech truly are masters of mouse design. I have bought several of this RX1000 model because it's such a great value and works for both lefties and righties. (I personally mouse with both hands, in order to avoid tendinitis in my right arm.) The accuracy of the tracking is excellent. The weight is just enough to feel sturdy and significant, but not so much that it's work to move it about, or pick up. It also survives being dropped. A few of them around here have hit the floor and come right back for more. The mouse works great on Mac OSX without any driver installation needed (if you prefer to avoid additional drivers in your computer).

The bulky and heavy wireless laser mice were making my forearms hurt (mild carpal tunnel), so I decided to go back to the wired variety. It's small, so it fits my hand perfectly, and the mouse is light, so my wrist doesn't hurt when I lift it. It's also very responsive when playing games. The laser tracks on surfaces that optical mice cannot.

I went with the cheaper laser version, because I absolutely refuse to install Logitech's software. It causes so many problems with Vista. I'm using the default Vista driver and it works great. There appears to be 4 buttons that work on this mouse. The fourth is a small button that acts as a back button for IE.

As a side note, I find it very helpful to have a chair with an adjustable arm rest to reduce carpal tunnel. I raise it up so that it's almost even with the surface of the desk. Also, you can increase the sensitivty, so that you make smaller movements with the mouse.

For example, if I want to move the cursor from the left of the screen to the right, I would move the mouse right, lift it up, move it back to the left, set it down, move it to the right again. When moving this mouse back to the left while it is lifted, it will move the cursor back to the left instead of leaving it still. To avoid that, I have to lift the mouse uncomfortably high.

This mouse is killer for gaming. The reaction time is great on all accounts for both shooters and MMORPG's (tested in World of Warcraft and City of Heroes/Villains). It's physical movements are smooth over the desk, and it clicks well. The scroll button works like a charm.

To be sure, it's not as spiffy as the super expensive G9 or G5 Logitech puts out, and also misses a lot of those bells and whistles...but it also doesn't cost $60+ for a reason. It doesn't have any extra buttons, which for some macro-intensive games is a bit of a bummer. If I was going competitive, the G9 would probably be a better choice. I'm not, though, and for what I needed - a great general mouse for both gaming and work on the PC, this rocks.

Use a laser mouse and you'll never go back.

Pros: The scrolling is smooth, but not too smooth. In other words perfect. Side scrolling works well and the speeds can be set.

Cons: The search button cannot be reprogrammed to zoom. The worst thing about this mouse is the middle button, it takes way too much force press down on it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good mouse, bad reseller, December 10, 2010

This review is from: Logitech Rx1000 Scroll Tilt Laser Mouse (Personal Computers)
The mouse is pretty good. It is indeed ambidextrous, cursor precision is high, shape seems to be ergonomic. The only usability-related drawback is that the scroll wheel is a bit loose. Or so it feels. Also, latest version of Logitech's Control Center software doesn't recognize this mouse, which means that its buttons cannot be reprogrammed. But the reason I'm leaving a low rating is because I went through some trouble to get it. The first mouse arrived fast, but it wasn't working. You could only click, the cursor wouldn't move. I got in touch with the reseller's customer support, they said they'll send it again and suggested to call Logitech and ask for replacement. It was a bit unexpected, but I called Logitech anyway, and they did indeed send me a new mouse free of charge. But before that another mouse from TekGalaxy, the reseller, arrived, and it was also defective. I thought for a moment that the problem might be in my computer, but the mouse that came from Logitech shortly thereafter worked straight from the box. Speaking of, it is worth mentioning that in both packages from TekGalaxy product boxes looked worn. And the second mouse had exact same defects as the first one -- no tracking, only clicking. What brings me to conclusion that their entire stock of RX1000 mice must be damaged. So think twice before buying it here.

To sum it up, RX1000: * * * *, Logitech: * * * * *, TekGalaxy: *, Amazon: * *, for teaming up with negligent resellers.

I wanted to replace my iMac's mystery mouse with something that had real distinct buttons and laser tracking. This mouse is inexpensive, ambidextrous, matches the silver and black iMac well enough, and I'm happy with it.

The only real difference between this and the Mighty Mouse is the scroll wheel. On the Mighty Mouse it's a ball that can rotate in any 360º direction. On this mouse it only freely scrolls vertically, going side-to-side is a tilting button press that advances one increment each time you click it, so it's not a fluid scrolling motion. On the plus side it doesn't get all gummed up like the Mighty Mouse's ball, so I can live with the sideways click. The scrolling is quiet and definitely won't bother anyone nearby, although the clicks are definite clicks.

There is a small gray button below the scroll wheel with a magnifying glass icon. In OS X it's nonfunctional. I'm sure with some software you could probably program it, but not using OS X's built in options. I don't even notice the extra button when using it, so it doesn't bother me at all. The middle mouse button works like all other scroll mice by pressing down the scroll wheel, which I often use to open tabs in web browsers.

I use it on a leather textured desk mat surface and the pointer motion is very smooth. After I plugged it in I didn't change the sensitivity from the Mighty Mouse setting, and I didn't notice a difference between them.

The top black surface of the mouse has a matte texture, which I like. The sides are glossy and narrow, and the top is arched, it is comfortable in my smallish hands and has the feeling of offering a more supportive structure than the relatively flat Apple mouse. There are no annoying glowing logos or blinding blue LEDs or anything else to complain about. All in all, a solid choice.

I was thinking of throwing out my optical mouse and go back to a mouse with a track ball in it, but I tried this laser mouse instead. I have been using it for a year now, and it rocks! It is always accurate on any surface I use. I don't use mouse pads anymore; I just use my desk directly. The laser mouse never makes a mistake. I am sold.

The scroll tilt function never works for me, but I don't care. The only complaint I have is that the buttons are just a little bit too loud. Anyway, this is a great mouse. I will never buy an optical mouse again....laser mouses are so much better.
