I've read a lot of reviews on the UE9000s before asking for them as a Birthday present. I've seen the good and the bad. Now, after receiving them as a gift and using them for several days I have a real solid formulated opinion. I feel that I owe anyone that reads this some quick background so you can clearly understand my point of reference. POR means everything in reviews.

First, I have tons of earphones and headphones. Second, my wife and I are both general aviation pilots and we own some of the best active noise reduction (ANR) technology available. I have Lightspeed Zulu 2 noise canceling headphones and she flies with Bose A20 noise canceling headphones (proven to be the best ANR headphones in the world, period). Both have BT pairing for calls and music. The reason for this info is that we understand how world class ANR works. Ultra high end aviation headsets have unbeatable noise cancelation and sound quality.

Second, I like Logitech and Ultimate Ears. I have a pair of UE500s as a beat around set, a pair of UE600s and now a pair of UE9000s to add to my collection of Bose OE2 and other earphones.

On to the UE9000s. For all the nay sayers, you have to remember that Logitech was real early in this space-Bluetooth, Noise Canceling. Beats is now a player but not even Bose is there yet. Their BT set is not ANR (surprising since they have been there in Aviation for a while now) and their ANR is not BT. That still doesn't forgive some of the huge omissions and mistakes Logitech made with the UE9000s but it does force me me to cut them a little slack.

FIT AND FINISH: The UE9000s are big, heavy headphones. Tilt your head forward and they will shift and almost fall off. They look great and are well made.

Alright this is quite difficult actually to rate; on one hand the quality is amazing(*) and it's definitely the best bluetooth (and wireless overall) headset I have had.

Now for the 3-start rating, this headset is unique in several ways but one feature I really wanted (considering the price too) was a solid headset with a microphone and this one was not only bluetooth and had good reviews on audio quality but also had a set of microphones! Color me sold I immediately purchased it once I saw that.

-HOWEVER- when the mic is active audio QUALITY and mic quality takes a nose dive into shitsville and comments around that are "You sound like your talking into a sock.", "Are you sick?", "Wtf are you saying?". Honestly my cell-phone has better audio quality on both ends and it's talking to cell-towers.

Verdict: It's pretty damn good for just straight up listening to music / what have you; just disable the microphones and your good. I just want other purchasers to be aware of this.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
First point I have to make: if you are expecting these to shine while using Bluetooth, then you might be somewhat disappointed. Any headphone used via Bluetooth is handicapped by the actual Bluetooth software and connectivity. It works pretty well compared to some items, but it's not as pure as having them plugged it. But you cannot use Bluetooth on airplanes, so even then the plug is necessary. (Update 8/29/2013: As of 2014 Bluetooth is allowed on airplanes. It was not allowed when I originally wrote the review) But I haven't had any major issues with using them via Bluetooth yet. I've been using them via Bluetooth on my Sony Vaio notebook and my Samsung Galaxy S phone. I plug them into my stereo (they do sound great but the cord is short), PSP, DS, 3DS, and my phone and notebook as well. The wireless works surprisingly well through my phone.

The noise cancellation is automatic while using the Bluetooth, so also take note of that. But when using it plugged in, you can toggle the cancellation off and on.

Comfort is great, the around the ear fit is nice, and I can wear these longer than my Sennheisers. Though these are a lot heavier. The other issue one might run into is due to the weight, it's a bit tough to tip the earpiece down to hear someone talk then put it back on. It requires two hands, so if you are holding a device (Nintendo 3DS in my case) then you might have to put it down. The headband is a little less padded, so someone like me (who has a shaved head) will get a little crease on the skin.

The cord has volume controls and a mute button. It works with some devices such as iPods but not with others which I find odd. The volume controls on the actual earpiece also seem to work with some devices and not others.

I'll start off by saying I'm somewhat of a headphones collector. I have numerous ear buds and some Sony noise cancelling headphones. I also have some Bose ear buds, Shure 510 ear buds, and have owned Bose QC15.

The UE9000 are clearly better than any of these. The detail is just amazing. Once you turn on noise cancelling the built in amp will just impress the heck out of you. If you want to leave off noise cancelling you should put a good headphone amp on these but still you can get quite good sound from any wired device.

Bluetooth performance is very impressive. Sounds just as good as wired to me. These are the first headphones I've had where I can actually tell the difference between lossless and a good MP3. The 3D imaging in some songs is just amazing. As I mentioned in my UE6000 review, Kiss From a Rose by Seal is particularly impressive. You can hear 3-4 distinct voices plus various instruments all coming from clearly different positions. Even with my equalizer flat the sound is quite good and clear.

Gaming is also quite good on these as you might expect. I'm using them with a X-Fi HD USB sound card with THX surround set at 15% and the directional sound is extremely good.

If you don't need Bluetooth the UE6000 are a LOT cheaper, are foldable, and to me they sound just as good. Also note that you can find the UE9000 much cheaper at other sites.
