Spectacular mouse with great feel, comfort and accuracy,
By Kenneth (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Logitech V450 Cordless Laser Mouse (Personal Computers)
This is a notebook mouse that isn't too tiny for a regular user. I use this mouse about 8 hours a day on my laptop. I got this mouse mainly for portability if I have to travel for my business but it is still comfortable enough to be a desktop mouse.
A few things to note: 1) Laser mouse: This is a laser mouse which basically has very very high accuracy and pretty much works on any reasonable surface. 2) Scroll wheel: The scroll wheel is very smooth but does have the regular click feel to it as opposed to my Microsoft Wireless mouse which doesn't. I prefer having the click feel but that's my personal opinion. The scroll wheel can also be "clicked" to the left and right if you're working on stuff that requires you to use the horizontal scrollbars. 3) Continuity: The 2.4 Ghz frequency of the wireless is phenomenal. I work pretty much 99% of the time wirelessly in my basement and have never run into any problems whatsoever. Notice that the receiver, too, is a tiny USB dongle which is perfect for travelling? 4) Power: Why is it perfect? Well, the dongle actually plugs into the mouse and shuts the mouse off to convserve on battery besides helping portability. 2 AA batteries are supposed to last 1 year with regular usage. The mouse in itself also has a on/off button which you can use if you prefer not to have to remove and reinsert the dongle into the mouse all the time. 5) Indicator: The mouse also comes with an LED light that will light up when batteries are low so no surprises - especially for me since I'm also a daytrader. The setpoint software that comes with Logitech is highly recommended. It even tells you if the battery is good or low. I give this thing 5 stars. Everything I want in a notebook mouse and nothing less.

This could have been a great mouse.
Instead it's so frustrating to use that I am returning it (thank you amazon, for your fair and reasonable return policy). What I like about the V450: o nice size and shape, feels good in the hand o compact USB receiver o major buttons (left, right) and scroll wheel are very smooth and pleasant to use. What I hate about this mouse: o movement response time is inconsistent. Sometimes it is very responsive - you move the mouse and the cursor moves appropriately. Other times there is a distinct lag - you move the mouse and nothing happens for the first few inches of travel. I find this very frustrating, and inaccurate. o wheel response time is also inconsistent. This is similar to the above complaint, except sometimes it goes into a state where you can move the wheel 1 click forward and back repeatedly with zero corresponding movement in your application. Another exceeding irritating problem. o middle button requires far too much pressure to activate. If you use this button often you are going to hate this mouse. It takes much more pressure to activate than the other mice around my office do (2 Microsoft, a Dell, and a corded Logitech). o buggy driver software. I originally installed the included drivers (and updated them via the internet) as this is necessary to allow use of the side scrolling buttons. The software is poorly designed so that some features (button use) are set in the Logitech Setpoint program, but other mouse attributes (acceleration, sensitivity) are set in a different program. I could live with that, but the drivers make the already poor performance even worse. Strangely, I purchased this cordless mouse to replace an aging corded Logitech which I like very much. I merely wanted to unclutter my desk by eliminating the cord. For now I'm going back to my old Logitech mouse.

Wow, now this is the mouse I was looking for...,

I really tried to like my MS Laser Notebook Mouse 6000. I tried to like all three of them over the last four months in fact...There is something seriously wrong with that mouse - and I am not terribly tough on mice.... I was tired of calling MS and getting a replacement only for it to last a month. Eventually I knew would run out of warranty support, so instead of contributing to the electronics landfill, I thought I would try the Logitech V450.
Wow, so this is what a laser notebook mouse can be. Excellent tracking, even on a smooth white surface. The clicks feel just right, and the scroll wheel is excellent. The zooming function is useful and well implemented. The off button is brilliant and the wireless dongle stores cleverly in the mouse for travel. All I can say, really, is that this Logitech offering is designed a billion times better than the MS equivalent, and if it has any longevity, it is a strong strong buy, even at full price.

A Perfect Mouse for Your Notebook or Even Desktop,
By Thomas Jefferson (Charlottesville, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Logitech V450 Cordless Laser Mouse (Personal Computers)
I got this mouse 4 months ago after I lost my old beloved wireless trackball when I moved. I bought this mouse from Sam's Club as a replacement for $25. I had some initial doubts about going back to basic mouse after using the trackballs for years. But I'm so happy with this mouse I will probably never go back to trackball now.
When you open the package you see 2 included AA batteries - not just any batteries, but Duracell batteries. How many times have you seen, say, a remote control, come with some cheap no-name batteries? But Logitech is certainly not cutting corners. It gave me two nice Duracell batteries. Now 4 months later with daily use, my software indicates the battery level is still "good." Even though the mouse takes in 2 AA batteries, the mouse is surprisingly small. It makes me wonder sometimes how you can cram two AA batteries in there. But Logitech did it. The small USB receiver attaches directly to the USB port. Some wireless mice have receives that connect to the USB port through a cord, which sort of defeats the purpose of being wireLESS. This is a much better design. The signal between the mouse and the receiver is very good. I just tested the mouse-receiver range for the purpose of this review. I have no problem getting the mouse to work 15 feet away, which is the maximum test range that my living room allows. I especially like the feature that you can store the receiver inside the mouse itself when not in use. I'm not a person who keeps good track of where everything is, and given the small size of the receiver, I'm sure this has saved me hours of time trying to locate the receiver. The mouse uses laser to track movement. My computer work does not require laser precision, but still this is nice. The mouse works on almost any surface, even white blank paper. I haven't tested it on glass though. If you're really determined, I'm sure you can find one or two rare surfaces that the mouse doesn't work well on. The scroll wheel can also click left and right. In the provided program, you can set the sideway clicks to function as scroll left and right, as "back" and "forward" in web browsing, or as something else. It's a huge help. The only feature I wished it had was to have the USB receiver also function as a flash drive. But I'm extremely satisfied as it is. If you're looking for a easy-to-carry mouse for your notebook, or just a mouse that does what it's supposed to do without all the bells and whistles, this is it.

Buy a good wireless mouse!,
This review is from: Logitech V450 Cordless Laser Mouse (Personal Computers)
I messed around with some off brands and regretted it,
they were sloppy, paused, lost signals. This one works fine on rechargeable batteries (amondotech enduros). It is a mini-mouse FYI, I like this since I use my fingers instead of wrist as much as possible to avoid RSIs. It is very smooth, doesn't miss movements or clicks. Requires no software to work as a basic mouse, you must install the SW if you want the sideways scrolling feature (you can push the wheel left or right on this mouse). It has both on/off button, and storage for the USB plug. The mouse by default had too much motion for me, I dialed the speed down by 1 increment, and turned off "Enhance Pointer Precision" (in XP). Then it was perfect.

My favorite notebook mouse so far,

It simply works. As accurate as any corded mouse, but with the convenience of wireless. Feels fine in my hand, and the "notched" scroll wheel (I dislike smooth-scrolling wheels) works perfectly. Buttons click easily, but not to the point of causing extra erroneous clicks. I had previously tried Microsoft's latest laser notebook mouse, the 6000, and before that the MS 3000, and this one stands head and shoulders above them.

I've steered away from cordless mice, but when my laptop mouse stopped working a couple of weeks ago, I just happened to be at Best Buy and saw this mouse in the "Open Stock" for $17! I'm glad I took the chance and now I wish I could find another at the same price. Since that seemed as improbable as finding as smooth a mouse as this, I bought another for my desktop.
It's relatively small, and it's great for the laptop. Since I have small hands, it's comfortable even for the desktop, and I've used it for 8 or more hours without any problem or discomfort. I've always preferred Logitech. Maybe they just fit my hand better than the monsters that Microsift puts out. And, btw, I've had no problem with it and a Linksys router (see other reviews).

Changed the way I think about mice!,
By
This review is from: Logitech V450 Cordless Laser Mouse (Personal Computers)
I've always been careful in buying mice for notebooks. We all like portability, but often notebook mice can be too small to be usable. I'm a graphic designer, so I need to be able to control the mouse precisely.
The V450 has changed the way I think of mice. It's small, but better than any desktop mouse I've ever used. In fact, my other desktop mice now seek bulky and awkward. Occasionally I have to hit the reset button to re-establish a connection with my computer (especially if the computer was running in low-power mode), but I have yet to meet a mouse where this didn't occasionally happen. The dongle on the mouse is GENIUS! When in the mouse, it powers off (which is lovely). The dongle is very small and doesn't get in the way when plugged into USB. One other thing. I'm not a Logitech plant. I just love this mouse!

Good mouse but Logitech could make drivers easier to find,
By
This review is from: Logitech V450 Cordless Laser Mouse (Personal Computers)
I *love* not having a corded mouse. As many years as my laptop has been my main work 'puter, I have never liked, or used, the touchpad. Sorry, I'm totally mouse-driven :)
When I found this cordless mouse, I was thrilled. At least until I it was time to reformat and do a clean install of Windows. Now of course I keep back ups (several, in fact) of all drivers, and my registry. And of course I have my programs on a separate partition than the OS. This mouse was the only thing that gave me any problems. What was odd is that it didn't just not work or work, but would go back and forth between working fine, then suddenly choking and even a reset or fresh batteries wouldn't make it work. Reinstalling the drivers from the Logitech site seems to have helped...though the experience of finding the drivers on the Logitech site was NOT a happy experience. I mean truly, we are expected to match the mouse/mice with a thumbnail photo, rather than a model number? I can only hope this is the correct driver. And even though I turn off the mouse every night...the claimed battery life isn't anything even close to what I have experienced. I'd have rated it higher if Logitech's site allowed for imputing a model number and being directed to the correct driver.

My husband is a graphic designer and as you can imagine, is on the computer for hours every day. Not being big on new technology, he uses the same old mac mouse that comes with the system every time he upgrades.
He's starting to get carpal tunnel in his wrist, so I got him a Logitech MX Laser mouse. He hated it. Thought it felt like holding an iron. Too big and heavy. So, waited a while, did more research and got him the V450. He loves it! It's small, but not too small and light-weight. He uses it with his desktop computer every day. When he wants to use it with his laptop he just unplugs the usb receiver, stores it in the mouse (convenient!) and goes. We highly recommend this mouse. |
