THE BIBLE STUDY APP -- ESPECIALLY GREAT WITH LOGOS DESKTOP,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Logos Bible Software (App)
There are some wonderful Bible Apps out there. YouVersion, Tecarta, OliveTree, BibleIs, etc, etc. But Logos stands alone for Bible Study ability. Why? The ability to access a library of resources and the ability to do searches and other studies make this the App it is. Many needed features are in the works currently (such as note taking, marking, etc, etc). The most unique feature of Logos for Android is the ability to access the Logos Cloud of purchased (and some free) resources and books that you can also access on your desktop. If you already have a Logos or Libronix library, you will be able to access those resources on your Android device (unless there is a restriction by the publisher). Note: if you don't want to do Bible Study, but merely read Christian books, then Logos has another app called Vyrso, which has an even simpler interface and allows you to download ebooks in Logos's library (very much like the Logos for Android app here, but without the bells and whistles). Good news, as of November 24, this app works well with the new Kindle Fire. If all you want is to access the Bible on your device and read passages, then the Logos App is probably not your go-to app. If you want to do Bible Study and read a library of resources on the go, then Logos for Android is your MUST HAVE app.

The Best Choice for a Bible Study App,
This review is from: Logos Bible Software (App)
I'm excited to have access to the thousands of titles in my Logos library on my Android phone (HTC Evo) and Android tablet (ASUS Eee Pad Transformer). The Android app is a bit behind the iOS app, but it's incredibly useful in its current state. The reading experience is excellent. The typography is superb and makes reading a pleasure. I'm looking forward to the fully featured version with annotating and highlighting and some tablet-specific UI and functionality as well. Integration with Logos for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Biblia.com makes Logos the best choice for a Bible study app. Oh, and it comes with 60+ free books, too. [...]

I have been using the full PC version of Logos for a few years now, and enjoy it quite a bit. I have used it almost daily since I purchased it. For my money, there's no better PC software package out there for a theology geek ;-) So that's one of the reasons why I was excited to install the Logos software on my android so I could take my extensive Logos library and functionality with me on a mobile device. However, there are a couple of things that I think could be improved. First, I would like to be able to at least change the default Bible version to one that I actually use. In fact, rather than having it take up space on my device/SD card, rather than just change it, I'd prefer to be able to remove the version that is bundled with the software altogether, since I don't use that version. If it is possible to change the default version and/or if it is possible to delete the bundled Bible version, then this changing/deleting process is not intuitive because I have not been able to figure out how to do it. If someone knows how to do either of these things, please leave a comment. Also, I would like to have the text-to-speech option available like what my Logos 4 PC version provides, as I would like to be able to listen to the Bible or one of the books in my library from time to time on my mobile device. If these issues are addressed, I will gladly increase my rating from 4 stars to 5.

If you have a Kindle Fire, you will need to use the Public Beta of the app, since although it is in the Amazon App Store, Amazon has not yet made the real app available on the Kindle Fire. Here's the link: [...]

I just got the Kindle Fire today and was excited to install Logos and begin experimenting with its capabilities. Overall, I think everything ran very well, and I am tremendously excited to have this app available during travel. I think it will be very helpful in studying the Bible and interacting with commentaries on the move. This application is very good overall, as it does mostly everything one could hope for on a mobile version of the software. However, my only disappointment came when I realized that I could not underline or highlight the text. I hope they add a function in the future that will allow interaction with the text, even if it is only the opportunity to highlight passages that can be looked up later.

Greek not so good,

I was excited to find a bible app that had the Greek new testament with parsing. Unfortunately the Greek often goes to boxes instead of the Greek characters and in at least one book the words are off when you are trying to get the parsing. I found in 3 John that the parsing isbexactly one word off. This would be a 5 out of 5 with some updates to the parsing and Greek text.

I have the Scholars package for Logos on my desktop, and love it!But, the Android version (0.94) leaves a lot to be desired... * Almost nothing is intuitive. * For simple Bible reading, forget it. It is a pain to use a single translation all the time. It is a pain to always open up to the same section. OliveTree is far superior in that regard. Settings do not allow for a default translation. * At this point, devotional readings from Spurgeon or other writers do not always open up on the current day. * When an update occurs, the login information to Logos is lost. That means that if you are on the road and do not have the password, you can forget most of your Logos collection and what settings you did have get lost. * Books apparently need authorization from the publisher for both the desktop versions and for the tablet versions. That means what you have on your desktop may not necessarily be accessible to your tablet. (I called and asked them about that...) * There should be an option to keep the app simple! To automatically get thrown the whole dish, when you want only a simple item, is ridiculous. I have a laptop for a reason... for the serious study times. The tablet is not for those times. I had other problems, but can't remember them at the moment. I'll be happy when they get the app to work, but right now, it is not worth much.

This is a tremendous app for those who use Logos. Even if you don't have the software program, you can still access a few titles, but when you own one of the LOGOS base products, you are in for a real treat. I am a full time seminary student that has loads of reading to do. This app lets me download the books I need for class directly to my Kindle Fire. I don't even need wifi once the books are downloaded. Instead of lugging around 20+ pounds of textbooks and my laptop to class, I can take all my books with me on my Kindle! Awesome app! Thanks Logos.
