5.0 out of 5 stars Remeniscent of ambient-alternative group the Cocteau Twins.
This cd is really great! I enjoy the deep, rich and dreamy qulaity it conveys with such simple and sophisticated understatement. There is a haunting quality to this music and some songs almost sound like mantras!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lola CUKI burns bright but runs out of steam.
Lisa Dewey's Lola CUKI has enough subtle ideas and raw talent to insure an intense ride through her relationships and loves without belaboring the universal language. Lisa Dewey's Lola CUKI has enough subtle ideas and raw talent to insure an intense ride through her relationships and loves without belaboring the universal language. Lola Cuki's styles bounce around from one influence to another and at times it can be distracting. Although Lisa's voice keeps you from passing from track to track, the length of a few songs can get tiresome. The repetiton of vocal lines and very few noticeable changes to the hooks tend to numb the excitment of her talent. Althought it has the potentual to make a mark with other top female singer/songwriters, Lisa Dewey's need for better production, and smarter arrangements keeps Lola Cuki form being a contender.

5.0 out of 5 stars This cd rocks!, April 19, 2004

I used to see Lisa Dewey play live at many venues in San Francisco. Her music entranced me from the beginning and so I had to buy this cd at one of her shows. This was many years ago, but I am now writing a review because I see that I can. :) Her music is beautiful, angry, sad and funny all at the same time. Her voice is amazing and you'll feel like you're on the best rollercoaster ride ever when you hear this album. Some songs are super-long and some super-short. I love that she has the nerve to do her own thing and not stay within 'the box'. She has a distinctly unique way of singing and writing, and once you hear her voice and it's beauty, you'll never be the same. She is very talented and I look forward to seeing her career shoot up & up!!

I enjoyed this album a lot. I thought the production on Weather Changer Girl was better, but this is still a great record with lots of good songs.

Lola Cuki's capacity to offer an empyreal embrace to those who may be feelin' a bit restricted on this earth makes it an album well worth your time. Add to it Weather Changer Girl and Lisa Dewey's self-titled debut album and you've got yourself a well-diposed set of CDs for most any jingly-jangly occasion.
