5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music that mad the movie complete
There are sparatic 40's style gems amongst the most beautiful new classical music I think I have ever heard as a soundtrack. Track 20 'ladies and gentelmen of the jurry' is a slow, intense theme which will have you thinking about it for months after listening to it. 1.0 out of 5 stars This are the songs of the film?
If you are thinking that this are all the songs of the film you are wrong. I had saen the movie recently and it was a surprise to hear a lot of song from Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) - yes, the anime - composed by Noriyuki Asakura. What a shock! And, from far, that are the best songs of the film (Kaoru to Misao or Departure as an example).

Track 20 'ladies and gentelmen of the jurry' is a slow, intense theme which will have you thinking about it for months after listening to it. There are a few classical ones that you may skip over because of their direct tie with the movie (they don't really work just as songs.) Overall, the movie was a beautiful rendition of a book of genius, and this soundtrack does both justice.

As you've noted from the other commentaries, the "classic" songs from other artists can jar the Morricone mood, but this is the most sensual music he's ever written, even better than Cinema Paridiso, Love Affair, or The Mission, my other favorites. We can only hope his son Andrea continues the magnificent output after Ennio can do so no longer. Meanwhile, long live Ennio. This is elegant, wistful, understated brilliance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant-the best film score of all time, May 1, 2004

This is my favorite film score of all time-I literally kept watching the movie because of this score. No, not literally, I watched the movie, and was slightly moved by the movie. ONLY because of this score. The music in the film is so stunning, so brilliant and haunting and melodically luscious, so emotional and full of impact, that in can drive on to tears. It is highyl nuanced, and is a presence in the film within itself-it's completely nuanced and never goes for overdrive. It's subtle but stunning beyond all description. It's melancholic and wistful, and evokes great feelings of passion. If you like James Horner, or Hans Zimmer tripe, well then quit reading this reviews, because you will surely find no appreciation for the pure and intense melodic beauty of this soundtrack.

If a soundtrack can take a borderline bad film and make me keep watching it, allow to be even moved at some point, you know it's got to be pretty brilliant.I have always appreciated the power of music in a film, but never fully understood it's capacity until I came to this.I've never before stayed with a movie only for it's music-but that's exactly what I did here.Ennio Morricone is a genius-I'd watch a blue screen with his music for three hours if I had the opportunity.

It was about 12 years ago when i was first introduced to Ennio Morricone on his Oscar winning soundtrack "The Mission" wich the great actor Jeremy Irons also stars as well as in this incredeble masterpiece "Lolita".Watching this movie and staying tune with the powerfull altough gentle sensual soundtrack (as the movie itself)alowde-me a sense of loving peace ,serenity, joy, sadness all these emotions wrapped in the simple notes of the master Morricone. .Powerfull...Delicate...Loving...Sensual...This Soundtrack its a must, like all the others from this italian genius. Gracie Ennio... (Luis Caldeira, St.Thomas ,Virgin Islands)

5.0 out of 5 stars Lolita Soundrack will take you back to the good ol' days!, November 18, 1998

This review is from: Lolita: Original Soundtrack (Audio CD)
An absolutely wonderful piece of work. It's a great soundtrack to go along with a great movie. Very catchy songs, some that will go to your head quiter then a shot of whiskey! Although I love it to death, I myself realize I may not of liked it quite as much had I not seen the movie already and knew which parts of the soundtrack were played at which parts of the movie. But for those of you who have seen the movie, go get this soundtrack immediately, and to those who havent seen the movie, what are you waiting for?

If I could describe to you the Soundtrack Lolita in two words, I would have to say breath taking! I mean when you listen to the music flow into your ears, you can't help but close your eyes to imagine what part of the movie is playing at that brief moment in time. I would totally recomend this soundtrack to any movie music lover, Me being a collector of soundtracks loves this Score by Ennio Morricone. He has created a masterpiece!

4.0 out of 5 stars ...guilty pleasures, July 27, 2002

I will admit in being guilty in enjoying the movie, considering the controversy surrounding the much publicized making and eventual showing of the movie, that for many places wasn't allowing a theatrical release. The movie was condemned by many before it was even screened and unfortunately the score had to bare some of unjustified criticism.

I consider "Lolita" to be Ennio Morricone's better works after "The Mission" and I thought for a while he had past his prime and we would never hear something as wonderful as "The Mission", "Once Upon A Time In America", "Days Of Heaven", "The Untouchables"...maybe Hollywood softened him up a bit and he completely forgotten about his origins, thats making period pieces of music that blend in with the settings "Days Of Heaven" is a prime example. I wouldn't say that the instrumental tracks are nostalgic and supposingly intended to led in that general direction. This soundtrack works on two levels, the non instrumental tracks...the pop songs were to intensify romance and Lolita's rebelist ways with Humbert that would signify the youthful American culture. And Morricone's instrumental tracks that display a haunting bond with Lolita and Humbert with the sweeping strings and sparce piano arrangements. The music just lingers there well after the movie had ended and your left with a melancholy feeling about you, you become almost as guilty as Humbert.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Somber Soundtrack, February 1, 2009
This review is from: Lolita: Original Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This was one of Ennio Morricone's best soundtracks. His string arrangements are hauntingly beautiful. The somber pieces are balanced perfectly with music of the movie's time period. Highly recommended.
