5.0 out of 5 stars Vegetarian favorite
I grew up as a vegetarian, and this is my favorite of the many soy-products out there. The stakes come 4 to a can, submerged in thick, flavorful brown gravy, and are simple to prepare--just heat and serve. I usually accompany them with macaroni and cheese and whatever vegetable I'm in the mood for. However, they are also good in sandwiches or with mashed potatoes or rice...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too bland for my taste
This is the first Loma Linda or Worthington meat analog that was not thrilled with. I love most of their products and use them all the time, so I didn't hesitate to order a case of Swiss Stakes. For my taste, they are bland, blah and boring. As a stand-alone Swiss-style "steak", they just were pretty tasteless. The gravy is OK, but nothing to write home about. I'm using...

5.0 out of 5 stars Vegetarian favorite, August 22, 2006

I grew up as a vegetarian, and this is my favorite of the many soy-products out there. The stakes come 4 to a can, submerged in thick, flavorful brown gravy, and are simple to prepare--just heat and serve. I usually accompany them with macaroni and cheese and whatever vegetable I'm in the mood for. However, they are also good in sandwiches or with mashed potatoes or rice. If you are not a vegetarian, you will probably find the flavor closest to Salisbury steak, though the texture is very different. That said, I recommend that those who are not familiar with vegetarian soy-products think of them as something totally other, rather than the meat product they are meant to replace, and enjoy them for their own merits. Other soy-meat favorites: Worthington Prosage, Morningstar Grillers, Worthington Chili, and Loma Linda Fried Chik'N with Gravy.

For my taste, they are bland, blah and boring. As a stand-alone Swiss-style "steak", they just were pretty tasteless. The gravy is OK, but nothing to write home about. I'm using up the remaining cans by cutting the "stakes" up and putting them in Chinese dried noodle soups. I'm also thinking I can make them into burgers, as long as I load lots of ketchup and mustard on them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for vegs and non-vegs alike, June 22, 2008

If you are a vegetarian in a household of semi-vegetarians, this product might be able to satisfy everyone. It's texture and taste reminds me of Salisbury steak, but not as salty.
The product is in a thin "gravy," which also has a great flavor, and can be stretched into more with a little water and corn starch.
We've served it over rice, on a sandwich, and with potatoes--all worthy!
Even non-vegetarians won't think twice about enjoying this, and may not know until later that it was all veggies!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Veggie Fare, February 4, 2009

I have been a vegetarian for the past 16 years and have purchased Loma Linda swiss steak by the individual cans in health food stores dozens of times. I was delighted to find it available by the case on Amazon.com. It is hands down my favorite veggie meat substitute. It is delicious and filling and you only need to nuke it in the microwave and add some veggies to make a full, satisfying meal. This is a huge plus for a commuter who works full time like I do. I really can't say enough about the product. I eat it often, and always keep some cans on hand. The gravy is delicious!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, January 15, 2009
This review is from: Loma Linda Swiss Stake with Gravy, 13-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I was raised eating meat substitutes as my mother, now 86 with no cardio vascular problems, has been a vegetarian from birth. This product is delicious. I like it because it does not try to taste like real meat. It has a delicious savory flavor all it's own. For someone just starting out as a vegetarian and wanting something easy to use and tasty, this is it. My son, who is an avid meat eater, loves this just as much as I do. When I have this for dinner he does not mind going meatless. I just wish it came with more gravy for putting over noodles or rice.

First off, you must know that I am a vegetarian. These are great tasting, and so easy, even non-vegetarians would love them, I would think. They even come with their own gravy. All you have to do is open them up and warm them! Give them a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best veggie ever, October 25, 2011
This review is from: Loma Linda Swiss Stake with Gravy, 13-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I like hot dogs and hamburgers as much as the next person but these Swiss stakes and veggie dogs are my most favorite in the world. They taste absolutely wonderful and I never get tired of them. I've have these since I was a kid so I've been eating these for over 20 years now. The only thing that sucks is that they don't sell them where I live. Luckily my grandmother sends my family a case of them from time to time but they don't last long at all. I would recommend these to not only veggie lovers but anybody.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great in Shepherd's Pie, July 7, 2009
This review is from: Loma Linda Swiss Stake with Gravy, 13-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
Swiss steaks are really good cut up and mixed with green beans or peas, a can of mushroom soup and the gravy...add mashed potatoes on top and you have shepherds pie! Better than the real meat version in my family's opinion!
