Awesome fake ground beef,
By
This review is from: Loma Linda Vege-Burger, 19-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
This acts a lot like fake ground beef. It's better than some fake taco-beef dry mixes out there because it doesn't have any of its own spices. So I can put it in marinara sauce or tacos. Most often, I make chili with it. It's low in fat and high in protein, so it works out great with my workout diet. It's moist in the can, so it's ready to cook with right away.

Since giving up meat, this is a must have for me. It's the best ground beef substitute I've found and I'm so excited to have found it online! It's not dry, chewy, or pre-seasoned.

AS a vegetarian for 37 years i think Loma Linda makes the best tasting products ever. They are cheaper than the bookstores or grocery stores and you get free shipping too.

My husband is an extremely picky carnivore and will not eat other vege-burger products. This one he hardly even notices, the texture is only slightly different than ground beef, other than that it could pass for the real thing easy. It takes seasoning well and is completely interchangeable for ground beef in casseroles, for tacos, chili, etc. It does not mold into hamburger patties though. We have been extremely happy with the product. I've even used it in my slow cooker and it held up nicely.

Add this with the linkettes and your family can enjoy a hotdog with chili that is healthy and as good as any. To make the chili I add olive oil, onion and ketchup. You really need to add oil to this in any kind of frying pan situation to keep it from sticking. The only downfall here is it looks a little like cheap canned dog food but once it's out of the can the appeal surfaces.

The Loma Linda Vege- Burger, is ideal for everyone, this Vege- Berger can be used in any meal that requires ground beef. It can be season with a variety of condiments. It has a great texture and taste. I am not a vegetarian yet, however, I have replaced the use of ground beef with Vege-Burger. Great product

I am a mom of a VERY picky 7 year old...The first thing I made for her with the vegi burger was tacos....She now CRAVES these and asks for them at least once a week!...I don't even like to think about regular hamburger after using this product..(I am a regular meat eater)
Sautee a finely chopped small onion in a large nonstick skillet..(no oil needed) Add 2tsp of minced garlic..stir for a minute...Add 3/4 of a reg. size can of diced tomatoes with the italian seasonings already added in the can...Add 1 can of LL burger..mix together...Add 1 1/4 package of your favorite taco seasoning..(we use taco bell orig.) and 1c water...Stir and cook until thickened...Mix in salt and pepper to taste..(I add the s and p when I add the meat, but this way you will get an idea of how much you'll need the next time)

I grew up eating Loma Linda meat substitutes, including this item: Vege-Burger. I also eat meat, but I prefer the Loma Linda and Worthington meat substitutes when I have the choice. To find these products in restaurants you have to find a Seventh-day Adventist school (or sometimes an SDA hospital), and patronize their cafeteria, or college snack bar.
First thing you need to know: Loma Linda Vege-Burger is not meat. It doesn't cook like meat - can't grill it because it'll burn easily. It doesn't taste like meat. It has a similar but not overly identical texture to meat (it's not as tough as meat, but is substantive which provides for chewing satisfaction; this is the biggest complaint of meat eaters: not the same chewing satisfaction as animal meat). This vege-burger has a similar form to loose, cooked hamburger in that it's pellet like, and it'll stick together. The purpose of this meat substitute is to give people who prefer not to eat meat a similar and clever alternative that we can use in recipes where hamburger is used. The nutritional value of this product is plant protein. For any vegetarian - however you choose to define the term - there are concerns for missing nutrients from the diet that aren't provided by meat (vitamins, minerals, etc). I'll leave that topic up to you to figure out. Loma Linda Vege-Burger is best, in my opinion, in cases where a well defined pellet of "meat" is appropriate. This includes for me: taco meat, meat loaf, and chili. I like this product very much - it's one of those staples of meat substitutes for me. I cook with this vege-burger just like I do with meat except it's already cooked. It's slightly delicate - fry it at a lower temperature than hamburger, and don't bake it as hot or as long as a hamburger meatloaf - just get the veggies cooked in your meatloaf - as much as you want them cooked - I like my celery and onions a little crunchy to add texture. Oh, and in the meatloaf I like to add some pecans! Yes! Worthington brand also makes a canned vegeburger (available here on Amazon as of this review 6/2010). For me the Worthington burger is a finer, smoother grind - ie not as pellet like. I like it especially in pasta sauces, meat balls, and stuffed green peppers. To your health!

Delicious versitile vegitarian burger,

This review is from: Loma Linda Vege-Burger, 19-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
Loma Linda Vege-Burger, 19-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) is a very tasty, healthy product. It may be made in the form of a burger, great for meals and snacks. I may also be used in all forms that hamburger is used. For example burger and rice is very satisfying. It might also be used in the making of a lasagna. Really great for those avoiding the problems associated with red meat. This is a better vegetarian burger than any other that I have tasted and my mother was a vegetarian.
My other favorite vegitarian foods are: Loma Linda Big Franks, 20-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12), Loma Linda Tender Rounds with Gravy, 19-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) and Worthington Vegetable Skallops, 20-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12). |
