Laundrette is a wry tale of romance between two men, one a skinhead and the other an Asian entrepreneur; Sammy and Rosie is the tragicomic odyssey of an Islamic despot in London; and London is an unsentimental slice of life about a homeless young drug dealer. Kureishi, a Londoner of English and Pakistani descent, is a hip, daring dramatist and a persuasive advocate of the progressive social agenda. Few screenplay collections are as worthy of reading as this one.
