Book Description

When you're heading to London for the Olympics, don't get on the plane without this travel guide on your Kindle Fire, iPad or Android tablet.

Featuring interactive 'tap-maps', immersive panoramic photography of London's best attractions, an intuitive layout, 'Explore More' panels, and easy-to-use 'live links' to our free companion app (Magic Carpet Hotel Finder), which provides fully searchable maps, satellite imagery and additional travel info to find your way around during the Olympics.

The London Olympics Survival Guide provides both a reference to the London 2012 Games and a highly visual guide to the capital's world-class attractions, complete with over 150 high resolution full-colour panoramic photographs.

Many of London's Olympic venues are scattered around the city, so you'll want to make the most of your visits to these venues, and explore more of what the city has to offer. For example, the Sherlock Holmes museum is just down the street from the Olympic archery competition; or you could go shopping at Harrods and visit the Victoria and Albert Museum on the way back from seeing an Olympic Volleyball match.

Follow walking tours around scenic London locations such as Hyde Park and the Serpentine (where the marathon outdoor swimming events will take place), Westminster, the Thames, the West End; the guide even takes you on a photo safari with Henry VIII's wild deer in Richmond Park - after having staked out the best view to see the Olympic Cycling road race go zipping by.

Olympics visitors will appreciate:

* coverage of London's Olympic Zone, River Zone, and Central Zone venues
* interactive "tap-maps" of the Olympic village and Cycling road races
* Olympic event schedule
* links to live results on the official London2012 website
* live tracking of the Olympic torch on its journey to London
* informational links on all London Olympic venues
* transport tutorial covering airports and the tube
* step by step travel instructions for getting to the Olympic park from Heathrow Airport
* interactive map showing the cycling marathon route through west London

All London visitors will appreciate:

* photographic tours around Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Parliament, Big Ben, Hyde Park, St. Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London and dozens of other attractions
* a look inside the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Churchill Museum, and Cabinet War Rooms
* a visit to the London Eye
* guides to London's shopping venues including Harrods, Oxford Street, and Regent Street
* a look at a few of London's pubs
* interactive "tap-maps" to help you quickly navigate around the walking routes presented in each chapter
* "Where to stay" hotel recommendations and interactive "Magic Carpet" hotel maps using the book's free companion app
* dozens of informational "Explore More" links for history, background, and details
* light, easy to read narrative

Free from the constraints of paper and ink, this book truly embraces the electronic medium. A prodigious number of high-resolution panoramic colour photos and a series of interactive maps within the chapters enable superior navigation. The reader is also encouraged to "Explore More” about several topics of interest using the internet, and without being overwhelmed by reference material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Olympics must-read June 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Kindle Fire owners will love this eBook. It combines maps, high resolution photography, and practical travel advice for seeing the Olympic Games in London 2012. You can even download a free add-on app to book hotels. Since it links out to official Olympics web sites, you are sure to have the latest information. Combine that with in-depth background from Wikipedia, and you have the history and context of the London setting for the games. Neighborhoods and venues are illustrated with maps that are only a tap away from current photography.

A good inexpensive way to make the most of your trip to the Olympic Games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Guide to London! June 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Although this travel guide is essentially for Olympic visitors, it contains so much information about other popular sights in 'the Smoke'as we cockneys call it, it will knock the socks off anyone visiting. I bought it really because at times I have to show people around and I'm often down there. This guide makes access to everything easier.
Maps, hotels, eateries - it's all there.
You won't be sorry you bought this!
Not least because the price is minimal for what you get.
