4.0 out of 5 stars A decent soundtrack
The Crystal Method take their first stab at film scoring with LONDON, a movie which (as of this writing) I know little about, other than the fact that it takes place in New York City. Still, it sounds like TCM are adapting to this new role quite nicely on this soundtrack, though whether their more casual fans will want to pick it up remains questionable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sounds like a Sountrack
The Crystal Method is one of my favorite groups, so I went to Best Buy the day the album was released. I couldn't find it at first because I was looking under "Soundtracks". To my suprise, Best Buy actually filed this directly under Crystal Method. Anyways, on to the music..

This is a good CD, but I must admit that I was a bit disappointed. You can tell...

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent soundtrack, January 31, 2006

The Crystal Method take their first stab at film scoring with LONDON, a movie which (as of this writing) I know little about, other than the fact that it takes place in New York City. Still, it sounds like TCM are adapting to this new role quite nicely on this soundtrack, though whether their more casual fans will want to pick it up remains questionable.

As far as new material from TCM goes, LONDON is probably best thought of as an eight-track EP with 6 bonus tracks from other artists (one of which is remixed by TCM). These songs aren't quite as danceable as those on their previous releases--but then, these songs are primarily intended to reflect the mood of the on-screen action; that's the nature of film score (as opposed to straightforward "dance music"). That said, most of TCM's songs (with the title trac being a notable exception) can get you moving, and "Smoked" and "Roboslut" are good enough to work on their own without the rest of the soundtrack as

The non-TCM stuff (tracks 2, 4, 8, 9, 11, and 14) is a mix of rock and electronic music. It's pretty good, though why the decision was made to put all of the rock tracks on the second half of the album confuses me--though perhaps this has something to do with when the songs are played in the actual film. Particularly notable are The Out Crowd, whose "C'mon Children" is a wonderful bit of psychedelic retro-rock goodness (though the lead singer sounds eerily like Bernard Sumner of New Order), and Connie Price and The Keystones' wonderfully jazzy instrumental "Sucker Punch." Evil Nine also turn in a fine contribution with "Restless," which sounds like bit like an electronica tune as performed by the Hives.

All in all, this isn't a bad set of tunes--it's a little short at 55 minutes, and none of TCM's songs crack the 5-minute mark, but this is still a very entertaining soundtrack.

4.0 out of 5 stars FITS THE THEME, January 12, 2007

This review is from: London (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
Crystal Method is a longtime favorite. Hearing their music in various Movies and Shows I was quite surprised to see that they were tapped to do a movie soundtrack. I have to admit I have not seen the movie, instead I let the music fit the theme and tell the story. I have seen reviews where groups like Crystal Method that don't (at least in this area) get great radio airplay, do something like this and are called sellouts. Instead I delight in the fact that someone like them get the chance to strut their stuff outside of the clubs and CD player. It is one of the staples that I keep in my CD changer in my car. If you have not tried this one I suggest you do. And if you are new to The Crystal Method, try it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars to jdizzle and everyone else who didnt see the movie, August 8, 2007
This review is from: London (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
First off jdizzle or whatever the idiots name is doesn't seem to understand that this is a soundtrack and that they made the songs for the film and obviously if you would watch the movie first then you'd understand why these aren't really club worthy songs. either way everything they did fit the film really well, the songs on the cd are in the order that they appeared in the film so whoever said they didn't understand why the rock songs were at the end thats why. don't get me wrong though the movie wasn't good at all but what tcm did really worked well for it and there are some pretty good songs on the soundtrack.

I found out about this movie because I'm a method fan. The movie itself was interesting. Jason Stathom trying out some new roles. I like that.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Meth Returns....., January 25, 2006
This review is from: London (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
Rock on! The Meth is back. I was browsing through amazon and decided to look them up to see if anything new was coming out. That was December...and it was a long wait knowing that far in advance and being such a big fan. Don't try and get this at Best Buy or Circuit City. I scrambled around on a lunch break looking for it there and neither had it. UNREAL!!!! Skipped over to FYE and they had 2 copies ordered and that was it. Needless to say, I am satisfied with my purchase! Please keep in mind, this is a SOUNDTRACK! So, you will not hear a lot of the same stuff you have heard previously. But real fans of TCM, will KNOW it's TCM! The only thing that lacks on this disc are the songs by the other artists other than TCM which consists of Tracks 2, 8, 9, 11, and 14. Track 2 and 14 has grown on me, but the other tracks are on my skip list. Aside from that, this is a pretty good effort by TCM. Track 7 is my absolute favorite at the moment. Stand out tracks are Tracks 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 12, and 13. All by TCM, of course. You will not be disappointed with this soundtrack if you like electronic music and definitely if you are a fan of TCM! A must-have!

Although it's not your typical Crystal Method album, it is still worth the purchase to add to your CM collection. I admit that the songs are not near as hard as I expect or hope, the album is still intense and dynamic.

While London was met with mixed reviews, the Soundtrack that The Crystal Method put together to support the album was such a beautiful thing. The sad part in saying that is the fact that it was a somewhat hidden gem because of the nature of the beast it was meant to support and, had I not tripped over it while shopping for new sounds, I wouldn't have noticed the soundtrack at all. Moreover, had the soundtrack not proudly displayed that it featured an "Original Score" by The Crystal Method I wouldn't have known this even if I would have tripped across it, and the only reaosn I found this listen was because I picked up the album to move it aside and then saw what it was advertising.
It feels good to find hidden gems in our forays.

One of the first misconceptions about The Crystal Method is that they've never done a soundtrack of any type. To the contrary, The Crystal Method has supplied a lot of music to many a project and they've put together a flow of mixes and remixes to power soundtracks and to place in the videogame realm (game title - N2O). Added to this si the fact that they don't make music that is generally just music - the type of music they make is conducive to being a soundrack already.
As I listened to the album I thought of that, and through my turns I was reminded of how well they managed to put sounds in the midst of imagery. As far as London went, I was reminded less of their first two albums and more of their Legion of Boom entry, sensing its influence in over half the album. Granted, some of the songs really did have an older feel: Smoked had a Tweekend sort of feel to it, proclaiming to all those "Midwest b-t-es" that "all those Darvocet and Vicodin couldn't save them from their lives." Still, the foray into guest artists made this bigger than "The Crystal Method."

All that listed, this being a good buy for someone depends on what you think on bands like The Crystal Method. There are few lyrics, a lot of beats, and many flavors sampled from the sea of electronics. They are not a generic flavor, however, and anyone listening should realize that The Crystal Method has produced some really powerful dancefloor masterpieces and know how to make sculpture from sound. This means they create audio portraits that can be very powerful when a pair of headphones meets the mindset and is walked about for a while.

If you haven't listened to The Method before, try out some of their tracks on the album ( tracks 2 and 3 are really good diagnostic tools) and see if they are for you. An army of reviews can say anything they want, but you are the real expert when it comes to what you like.

You can tell the tracks were written for a hollywood movie. They have that familiar cyrstal method sound, but they definitely seem to be lacking something. I like the groovy instrumental tracks like Roboslut and Defective the most, but they still don't seem to have the energy that previous TCM releases do.

I also want to mention that I am not just another person who loved Vegas and Tweekend's Name of the Game. My favorite TCM album is Legion of Boom, and I love both the Community Service volumes. The TCM tracks on this disc simply don't come close to tracks such as "I Know It's You" and "Bound Too Long". However, I still recommend this CD to any true TCM fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad, I'll say., February 7, 2006

For The Crystal Method and their usual beats and tunes, this was their first take at attempting to do film scoring. I have not seen the movie 'London' yet, so I cannot yet interpret the music with the movie, but it wasn't too bad, I'll say. Overall, I thought they put together some good beats, along with the main title theme (London). The one song that caught my ears though was the song 'I Luv U'...Probably the first time I've heard them knock things down and do a slow song. That's it for now, perhaps I'll write another once I've seen the movie and can analyze things further.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre At Best..., March 3, 2006
This review is from: London (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
I don't see the obsession with Crystal Method. I've been listening to them since day 1, before "Vegas" was even a twinkle in their imaginations, and it seems to me as though "CM"'s productions just keep getting weaker & weaker. Don't get me wrong I love "Vegas", Busy Child was brilliant and every track on the rest of the album is a classic. But Tweekend...c'mon, that album was a joke. Then their newer one Legion Of The Boom, there's like one good track (the 1st one)on that entire album. The good remix's of Born Too Slow sounded nothing like the crap original. Why does everyone praise these guys? There are so many different Breaks producers out there that are so much better. They're fun to watch live, but nothing you won't see from any other DJ or live act.

Anyway, this Soundtrack "London" is a little better than their usual stuff, but still suffers from alot of the same problems I have with their other albums. A) There isn't one Crystal Method song on the entire soundtrack that lasts even 5 minutes... This to me just seems lazy & kinda sell-outish. I mean sure if you've got so many tracks to where you need to edit some track's times to fit them all on the album, maybe(I still don't like that, do a double discer)but the entire sound track isn't even an hour long. B) There are only a couple up beat tracks on the album (6 out of the 14 tracks actually). I don't know maybe it's just me but that really bugs me when I buy an album for one thing and I get a bunch of slow-mow filler tracks, kinda makes me feel cheated.

In closing, there's nothing here you haven't heard before, if you wanna pick up a trendy, dancey soundtrack done by a big dance name pick up Swordfish by Oakey. If you want to pick up a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack pick up Monster by BT. And if you just want some descent Breaks in general pick up anything on Finger Lickin or Distinctive, cause Crystal Method ain't all that.
