Book Description

All serious Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts want to visit London to see the places mentioned in the Great Detective s adventures. The e-book version of See the London of Sherlock Holmes allows enthusiasts to -visit- London from their home computers, or internet connected TVs. This is achieved by hyperlinking the latitude & longitude addresses in the book to the -Street View- feature in Google Maps. The map coordinates are also GPS addresses for those who visit London with hand-held GPS devices. The book groups the 400+ Sherlock Holmes sites by the nearest underground or railway station. Entering GPS addresses after arriving at the station will generate turn-by-turn directions from one Sherlock Holmes site to another. Six walking tour maps are also included. These are not the usual rambling tours, but walks in Holmes and Watsons footsteps. Finally, for those with a statistical bent, the book lists 454 characters named in the book, and statistically analyzes their titles and occupations.

2.0 out of 5 stars Photo's - not in this book February 25, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The title of the book should have been: The London of SH -
Over 400 photos that you have to generate on the computer.

There isn't one photo in this book. Yes, it gives you longitudes and latitudes, so, if you have access to google earth you can probably see them. BUT THERE IS NOT A SINGLE PHOTO IN THE BOOK. Computer generated to me does not mean that I have to generate them myself. Generated (past tense) means that they have already been done.

This is a great book for the super sluth nerd. It interweaves the story with the locations in London that you can visit. I missed this resource on my first trip to London. I went and saw 221b Baker street and was a little let down. (Still cool and a must see) It is a museum/gift shop that is small and packed. So visiting the spots and reading the sections that the location inspired was a bigger thrill. Also they have a Harry Potter tour and if you go to Pinewood studios you can see sets from Star Wars Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes

This is worth having if you are visiting London and want to find some notable Sherlock Holmes locations. However, the format is definitely no-frills, and this is not much of a pleasure read, if you want to go the "armchair traveller" route. Photos would have helped immensely.
