5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any trip to London
This is a must for any trip to London whether its the first time or the tenth time. Every street in London is indexed and mapped here and not only the city centre--Hammersmith, Hampstead, Brixton etc are all here. Great for venturing out beyond the tourist spots.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much fine detail; difficult cluttered maps.
For first time travelers, visiting the standard top sights in London, London A to Z was too long, too heavy, and the maps were cluttered and difficult to read.
Way too many fine details, but not enough good, easy-to-find advice. Buy the London Mapguide for an easier, clearer, and more useful basic guide for all but the most demanding tourist travel...

This review is from: London A-z (Street Atlas) (Paperback)
If you're going to London, as a visitor or as a resident, the purchasing of this book must appear at the top of your "to-do list". Every motorway, suburban street and lane way, tube line and station, plus hundreds of other interesting and necessary pieces of information are all there in the A-Z. You cannot survive in London without one of these. This latest edition is fantastic!

This book has come in very handy during my time in London, and I really recomend it for anyone going to London. The price is ok, basically the same I was seeing for the same book in London.

London A to Z might be useful for the tourist who searches out the most obscure and difficult places, or for a London Resident who needs a reference work.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate map, November 9, 2007
By
This review is from: London A-z (Street Atlas) (Paperback)
This is the ultimate set of maps of the city. Very clear and self-explanatory. If you are exploring London on foot, you will find yourself on tiny streets that don't appear anywhere else but in this book. The maps in the tourist books don't give you this level of detail. You can buy this book, in a variety of sizes- small if you want to fit it in your pocket, or larger to see the details more easily- from most newsstands in London, so don't worry if you leave on your trip without it. In fact, examine the different sizes at a newsstand, see which suits you best, and buy it in London.

5.0 out of 5 stars As a Former Resident of London..., April 16, 2007

This is the map that every single Londoner uses, so that should tell you something. I lived there for 4 years and my copy was dog-eared! I won't repeat what other reviewers have already said (all things true). I will only say that if you refer to it while overseas you must call it the "London A to Zed" (the last letter of the Brit alphabet is not "Zee")!

5.0 out of 5 stars LONDON A-Z (Street Atlas) IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL, September 18, 2007
This review is from: London A-z (Street Atlas) (Paperback)
I purchased this book for my first trip to the UK. It was a time saver. Every area of London's city center (and beyond) is available in this book. The streets are easy to find, because there are detailed maps (in order)for the first half of the book. You have to remember that London is a VERY LARGE metropolis. One million people living in the city in 1900! Anyway, the second half of this book contains (in alpha order) how to find roads(10 Downing Street!), lodges, gardens, pubs........There are over 130 pages (four columns on each) of indexed street names. A lot of the sights that are popular with tourists are almost obvious on their corresponding map/page. Some are very obvious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely invaluable, May 21, 2006

The A to Z is an absolutely invaluable map for anyone who intends to do any extended travelling in London. Travelers should be aware that this is purely a map. It is not a guidebook. But it is most certainly an amazing map and a valuable resource. The A to Z maps all of London, from the outer edges to the center of the city, in 152 pages. Each of the maps offers a remarkably precise level of detail. It includes streets- everything from major motorways to tiny alleys. The book's cover claims to map over 69,000 streets, and it's easy to believe when you see the level of detail that these maps capture. The maps also include post offices, churches, schools, hospitals, shopping centers, tube and train stations, even walking paths in parks and greens. Streets, hospitals, and neighborhoods are also helpfully indexed in the back. Because the A to Z breaks the London map down into a series of smaller sections, it fits nicely into compact book form, which makes it easy to throw into your bag for a day of sightseeing or travel. For those intending to spend time in central London, one of the most valuable features is a 16-page superscale map of central London, allowing even greater detail, and clearly marking numerous points of historical and general interest. This is an invaluable resource for anyone walking, driving, or traveling in London.

4.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to read & carry, May 8, 2008

This review is from: London A-z (Street Atlas) (Paperback)
I found this guide very overwhelming & difficult to read. I got so confused looking through the 288 pages (which also makes it heavy). Would be great for someone living or staying for an extended period in London. Maybe handy, too, if you would like to get off the beaten path. Full of details that I really didn't need.

It appears to be an excellent guide but for your average tourist, I would suggest you use the London Mapguide. It is much easier to navigate with plenty of useful information. It is also smaller than the AtoZ, making the Mapguide a more practical choice to tote around the streets in your bag.

The Mapguide is also a better deal, this book is a little expensive for a tourist visiting for a only few days. If you're going to invest this much money in a map you should be using it over & over. At least that's how I feel now that I have paid that much & never used it once while I was there.

2.0 out of 5 stars London A-Z Street Atlas, March 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: London Street Atlas (Spiral-bound)
The atlas is very much as expected, very detailed and through for the area falling mostly with the M25. This particular version, however, is not very suitable for the "visually-challenged" user; the print is especially small and it very easily requires a magnifying glass to be most effectively used.
