Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Hallucinogens debut album Twisted, released in 1995, set the standard for the then burgeoning trance scene, showing him to be a true pioneer and master of his art. now in 1997 he is set to release his second album The Lone Deranger this time on his own label, with another fine selection of his own particular brand of psychedelic techno the album was recorded in Dorset at Hallucinogens Sound Labs and has eight tracks including January's single release, Deranger. Hallucinogen (aka simon posford) put out his debut single LSD in 1994 on Dragonfly Records, followed by Flouro Neuro Sponge in 1995 and the album Twisted in October that year. Twisted sold well in the uk and throughout Europe, reaching no. 26 in the French national chart. the next release was the single Space Pussy in march 1996 and was his last release on Dragonfly. at the end of 1996 Simon formed Twisted Records with partner Simon Holtom (ex label manager of Dragonfly Records) releasing Deranger in January 1997. they hoped to release the new album The Lone Deranger at the start of the summer but overseas licensing problems pushed the release date back to 1st September 1997.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Goa Classic, January 24, 2003
Simon Posford, the man behind Hallucinogen and Shpongle, has an excellend reputation for being a really good goa trance DJ, and a lot of it is because of this CD. It has clean, clear sound and the loops are more like spirals - the melodies keep changing in an intricate way, just right to let you get into that trance state when dancing but yet changing all the time. The sound 'morphs'. Posford manages to do this very well, even better than Astral Projection. There are samples that conjure up images, like a running water sample in Gamma Goblins. If you want to hear what psychedelic trance is all about, you need Posford's stuff. This CD is a classic.

Techno and goa especially seems very underground in the US, so let me add a note for Americans: This music IS for dancing, and it's not underground. This IS big and commercial. This is part of the techno dance culture. Be ready to leave the bump 'n grind behind, because you need to meld with the music and move much faster. Give this a try - there's a reason this is a huge movement elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Follow-up Album, August 12, 2003
I recommend this album for the following reasons: It is complex and interesting to listen to, with lots going on. At the same time, however, there are catchy melodies and rhythms that are extremely appealing to listen to. Though classified as goa trance, I wouldn't consider this dance music, as the timing of the beats on this album is constantly changing and unconventional, thus making traditional club dancing a little difficult. Though this was my first "goa" album, I wouldn't consider this music entry level; try Hallucinogen's other masterpiece, "Twisted," beforehand if you want something more accessible and catchy. "The Lone Deranger" is very dark and atmospheric, and constantly leaves you waiting to see what will happen next; this music is extremely creative and unlike anything else I have listened to. The last thing I love about this album is that it is like a journey that builds on itself and is extremely varied; the first track starts the album at a slow pace, but from there on, the music speeds up and doesn't let up. A great album with no throw-away tracks or no two songs that are alike, yet somehow it still flows . My favorite piece: Snakey Shaker.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is an area of the mind, which could be called UnSane, January 24, 2002

If you're reading this review, it means you were looking for a good Trance/Techno disc in Amazon.COM. If your wish is a Trance record you'll be able to play years from now, and linger on, then click "Add to my cart" button NOW !!!
"The Lone Deranger" accompanied by it's predeccessor "Twisted", are the 2 best Psychadelic Techno/Trance albums around. Every time I go out on a trip, I take it with me to accompany me with its beat, its hard-to-follow twists and changes and its hallucinogenic musical universes created. At home I play it at least once a month, but usualy more often.
Since Psychadelic Trance is hard to describe, and there are a lot of labels producing such music, this album (and, after hearing other Twisted Label albums, Simon Posford too) is a crown jewel in the Electronica music industry, and it's worth following up on ANYTHING this artist produces (seek the Shpongle label as well - it's the same Brit guy).

Do not hesitate ... Do not think twice ... This is a masterpeice, and every time you put on this record, you'll be :
a) happy you've bought it
b) sorry it's over
c) unwashed, and somewhat slightly dazed ...

Buy it ...
Enjoy it ...
