Hot and Sexy Biker oh my.....,
By
This review is from: Lone Rider (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to agree with several reviews on this. The male lead of Dallas/Grey was HOT HOT HOT but the female lead of Tess was WEAK WEAK WEAK. Dallas didn't deserve such a whiny heroine such as Tess, but Grey did.~Tess Marsh finds herself stranded and alone on a dark and deserted highway in Montana. Along comes a biker willing to give her a ride to the nearest town. She is about to go since he seems very honest and his eyes are a telltale sign. The only thing that goes wrong? When a band og bikers comes riding over the horizon. Motorcycles blazing and all in a surly mood. Quickly her savior becomes her captor as he grabs her and forces her to go with them all as his captive. What happened? Things get worse when she realizes he is taking her to a biker gang's hideout and plans on ditching her car in a lake! Dallas does not need another hassel, yet the good guy he is, he stops to offer his help to a woman from out of state, Massachusetts to be exact. Things go from sour to rotten when the gang shows up unexpected and he must play the captor to the woman, all for show. He cannot mess this up. He has been working on this for too many years, this woman is going to be a problem he does not need. Only when he starts to feel his heart engaging does he feel scared. How in the world is he going to pull this off? How is he going to keep her safe and juggle this gang in the process? Very sexy and fast paced. I loved Dallas, yet I wasn't crazy about Tess, she tended to be whiny and unreasonable. I gave this story 5 stars because I loved the tale, but wished for a different heroine. She was weak willed and clingy. I was surprised Dallas could listen to the nagging and whining for so long without getting angry! They weren't really meant for one another, but the story was excellent regardless. I just wish the biker part (the beginning) was longer, because that was the best part of the book. The second part was less exciting and Tess seemed to get worse, lol. All in all, great job Ms. Bach, I look forward to another book! Tracy Talley~@

CALLING ALL LINDA HOWARD FANS. . .,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lone Rider (Mass Market Paperback)
Think Linda Howard, think Judith McNaught's "Perfect", think Anne Stuart, think Cherry Adair. Stop thinking and BUY THIS BOOK. WOW! Sexy, sensual, exciting, adventure, terror, chase, hide, an alpha hero to die for, a little kinky (just a little, I think). . .this book has EVERYTHING. Whenever I can add another "can't wait for their next book" author to my list, I'm happy. This is a keeper!

LONE RIDER Letdown,
By
This review is from: Lone Rider (Mass Market Paperback)
LONE RIDER for me is a waste of a great title and a cool cover.I was really looking forward to this book after reading several enthusiastic reviews. I'm afraid I set myself up, becuse all in all, LONE RIDER was a big disappointment for me. Many people have commented on the sexual tension in this book. It's there, alright. But I need a half way convincing story to connect the sexual scenes together. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen here. The hero is indeed very charismatic as Dallas, big bad biker. But when he becomes Grey, stalwart F.B.I. agent, he talks too much and thinks too little. If this is how the F.B.I. really works, we are all in big trouble! I understand this is a novel and I have no problem with a little artistic license, but the storyline here is ridiculous. Remind me never to go into the Witness Protection Program ! The whole "undercover biker" premise reads like an old sixties biker movie. I didn't find any suspense in this at all. It was just silly. The stereotypical "really bad guys" were almost laughable. I wish I could have found something to like about the heroine, Tess. I didn't think she was smart or spunky or even sexy. Everything she did was just plain dumb! I was starting to root for the "biker babe" in their altercation.Tess deserved every over the top thing that happened to her! The best thing about this book are the sex scenes. Lauren Bach writes a great steamy love scene. I believe too that Ms. Bach has talent. She just needs to work a little harder on character development and a plausible plot. I look forward to her next effort, and wish her luck in her career.

Amazing Adventure,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lone Rider (Mass Market Paperback)
From the moment you start reading the adventure begins and only becomes more intense with each page. I became attached to the characters immediately and couldn't put the book down. It's been a long time since I became so involved in good story and I recommend this to anyone looking for something new and exciting. This is not your typical romance book.

Lone Rider by Lauren Bach,

What a page-turner! Where has Ms. Bach been hiding? This has to be the best book I've read in a LONG time. The plot keeps you intrigued and the characters capture your heart - especially Dallas (Grey) - what a hero! You can't wait for the next adventure in this story - plenty of twists and turns which keep you in suspense until the last page. I've added Ms. Bach to my "Favorite Authors" list. Can't wait for her next book!

What could have been...,
By no1spec2 (Portland, OR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lone Rider (Mass Market Paperback)
I had really high expectations for this novel based on some of the reviews I read here. Sadly, this book fell very short. Normally I love romance novels that involve some sort of kidnapping, but I was so disappointed with the heroine and other aspects of the novel that I just couldn't enjoy it.I'll start off with the biggest disappointment, the heroine Tess. She was one of the weakest, most helpless, and most clueless romance heroines I have ever come across and I have more than 200 romance novels under my belt. For example, her entire time in captivity, she was more worried about getting physical with her captor than she was about trying to figure out a way to escape. Her actions during this part of the novel were not actions any woman with any common sense would take. My biggest problem with Tess was that she constantly needed saving. About every 25 pages or so, Dallas/Grey would have to come running in and save her from some bad guy, or some disaster. It happened over and over and over again and got very old. I found myself wishing that Tess could manage to save herself for once, but she never did. I was also disappointed with their romance in general. Normally, a good romance will have the characters build up to the point where they realize they are in love with each other. The author never lets us know why they love each other, or how it developed; suddenly, they're just in love for no apparent reason. I felt that the characters were just confusing strong physical attraction with love. I never felt throughout the entire novel that they were ever in love with each other. As others have said, the plot had a lot of holes, more than most romances do. However, romance novels typically have a lot of plot holes so I was expecting it. This novel contained two of my biggest pet peeves with contemporary romance novels. The first is 25+ year old virgins. Nobody in this day and age, male or female, in the Western world makes it to their late 20's still a virgin unless that person- 1. Has strong religious convictions 2. Is very physically unattractive 3. has a disability or 4. Has serious personality problems. None of these really apply to Tess and I found myself rolling my eyes in disgust when she announces her virginity. I really wish contemporary romance authors would quit making their supposedly very attractive heroines virgins. It just doesn't fly anymore. SPOILER My second pet peeve in contemporary romance is accidental pregnancy. As a rule, I find it tends to distract from the romance between the main characters. This novel is worse than most with this because the unborn baby becomes a major character in the novel. The baby is mentioned what seems like 5 times a page for the second half of the book. Also, the romance between Tess and her unborn baby seems stronger than her romance with the baby's father. I found the baby's presence in this book to be a total turnoff. Please Authors, keep the pregnancy in the epilogue where it belongs! With the right heroine, this book could have been a winner. I am really disappointed for Dallas/Grey, I think he was a good character and he deserved a better woman than Tess.

Lone Rider,

Lone Rider is a sexy rollercoaster ride from beginning to end. The action never stops, and the sexual tension sizzles right off the page. I couldn't put it down.

Fantastic romantic suspense,
This review is from: Lone Rider (Mass Market Paperback)
Tess Marsh is driving on an isolated and deserted Montana highway when she runs out of gas. A biker stops to offer assistance just prior to the arrival of a motorcycle gang, notorious for white slavery and drug trafficking. Dallas forces himself on Tess by pretending she is his alone. When they enter the gang's hideout, Dallas pleads with Tess to trust him in spite of her current predicament apparently caused by him. Weeks later there is a FBI raid on the compound and Tess learns that Dallas is Federal agent Grey Thomas who has worked undercover for years seeking evidence to incarcerate these nasty criminals. Tess is subpoenaed to testify at the trials, but someone wants her dead before she gives testimony. Grey is determined to keep her safe. Lauren Bach has written an exciting romantic adventure reminiscent of a Big Sky version of Romancing the Stone. The heroine is feisty and brave while the hero intrepidly will do what it takes to keep the woman he loves unharmed. LONE RIDER is a fantastic reading experience for those fans that enjoy action in their romances. Harriet Klausner

LONE RIDER rides towards a golden strike with wild passion,
By Desmond Chan (Bishan North Singapore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lone Rider (Mass Market Paperback)
An inspirational trip on a desolate stretch of highway at Montana for ideas on jewellery design turns disastrous when Tess Marsh is stranded and picked up by gorgeous biker Dallas Haynes. Dallas has embarked on an undercover mission to bust a white slavery syndicate for two years - and he isn't prepared to let Tess foil his plans. He is forced to kidnap her and make her his amorous lover when one of the vile gang-member, Snake advances on her. Yet the greater surprise is the undeniable attraction that charges between them despite the charade. Tess wants her freedom desperately but is denied by Dallas who swore to protect her life. Their frustration is even intensified by their passionate nature - and in one night of reckless passion, their lives are intertwined. Complicated by Tess's pregnancy and the case far from over, Dallas is in for a hard time grappling both. Even more so when Tess knows zilch about Dallas's identity. Could this romance be a farce with duty at stake? LONE RIDER is Lauren Bach's maiden debut and the galvanizing action and sizzling passion rivals that of masters Linda Howard and Cherry Adair. It departs from the mainstream novels nowadays when it brings in the issue of pregnancy after unprotected sex. Dallas Haynes as the suave male protagonist braves through Tess's ordeal as a hostage, an abandoned soul and as a mother makes him endearingly affectionate. He is flawed and honest when he speaks about the failure of his former marriage and his selfishness in culminating the break. The readers are swept into a maelstrom of desire and emotions with Bach's focused writing. No doubt the story plot revolves around the tried-and-use formula of cracking down a sex syndicate, LONE RIDER offers some palpable thrills and grit at times. A first-timer at hand, Lauren Bach's hot shot debut rides towards a golden strike with its wild passion.

So, so,
By
This review is from: Lone Rider (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought the book started out really good. The biker gang and getting kindapped. That was good and exciting. No suspense though really. But then it was over and so quickly too. I thought the kidnapping with the biker gang could hae been just a little better and longer. The book slowed down alot after all that. It was almost silly.
There was Tess and the plot. For a "strong, independent, striking-out-on-her-own" woman, she sure turned into an obsessed with her kidnapper, weak-willed whiner. A virgin at twenty whatever because she is waiting for Mr. Right, but did not hesitate so get it on with her kidnapper. It was just made out to be too important, when it obisously was not. Then the plot, the poor plot. The whole story had so much potential, but it fell through short. It had more then holes. More like entire sections ripped out. I love romance books and am open bout lots of stuff. I forgive many mistakes, as long as it is made up somewhere else. I can go along with hard to believe and far fetched. Thats what I read for, ya know? I LIKE made up stories, I like the authors imagination, but not something like this. This kind of stuff I cant handle. What happened to the business Tess had? What about all the stuff in her car? What about her parents? What about her life that you never really get told about? What about Greys life that you never get told about? The end was just too convient. Did Greys parents have any part in it at all? Cause you never see them, you hear about them a few times. Thats it. There were so many problems with the story line. Grey was ok, nothing spectacular. I liked him better as Dallas. He was better in that character. Interesting how that happened cause he was the same person but you can hardly tell. I think that with time and a few more books under her belt this author will be great. Once she gets everything right the stories will be dyanmite. It did have promise, some parts were good, and the sex scenes were hot. She has that part of her writing down pat. Now, character development, way better plot with just a little bit of depth, and we might make it somewhere. So, even though I found this book way wacked, I am going to check out later books and reviews and see if she made herself yet. I hope she does, shell have good books if she can get it right. |
