A classic western,
By R. Bagula "Roger L. Bagula" (Lakeside, Ca United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Lone Star Ranger (Mass Market Paperback)
This novel was first published in 1914 just as the world plunged in WWI.
The thing about Zane Grey's writing style is that he had an attention to detail and told the reader about the inner life of the hero. In places this book is like a Victorian novel for women with a code of honor that is from the past. The adventure in which the outlaw Buck Duane is nearly driven to earth by people for crimes he never did stands out as new way to see people and the law? Poor people don't always run because they are guilty, but just because they know they won't get an even break? I enjoyed this novel which I think is almost overwritten as western that are more modern go. Zane Grey had his own code of honor and justice and has left us his interpretation of the wild west. |
