5.0 out of 5 stars 5 blue ribbons from Romance Junkies, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Lone Star Surrender (Harlequin Blaze) (Mass Market Paperback)
Undercover FBI agent Constantine Vega has spent the past three years compiling all the evidence needed to put drug lord Alvarez behind bars. With the trial only days away he's not taking any chances and certainly isn't about to trust anyone - that includes the federal prosecutor.

Federal prosecutor Nicole Ward had a falling out with her family when she opted to leave her father's law firm and leave her husband who also happens to be her father's protégée. She now takes pride in putting criminals behind bars and appreciates living for justice instead of the all-mighty dollar.

Constantine has done extensive research on Nicole but he's not about to take everything he's read at face value. He's taken it a step further and examined her from a distance but he's ready to meet her and find out if she's truly clean of Alvarez's influence. Constantine approaches her while she's out celebrating her sister's passing of the bar exam. Right away there's an undeniable chemistry between them but seeing it out to its natural conclusion would be unethical as far as he's concerned. That doesn't stop him from seeing to her pleasure before hightailing it away. They don't meet again until she insists on talking with him. As the prosecuting attorney it's her job to ensure that all her witnesses are ready to go and credible and she refuses to accept him as a witness without meeting him.

Because of the volatile nature of this case, Nicole must agree to use all the safety procedures in force before she's taken to see Constantine. She's not at all happy to learn that Constantine Vega is the same man she'd shared such a heated encounter with at the bar. All her ire quickly disappears however when they hear someone on the roof and realize they're in danger. Constantine and Nicole are forced to do the unthinkable - they go on the run. Trust doesn't come easy for either of them but with no one to count on but each other this enforced time together could bring them closer than either of them ever dreamed.

Lisa Renee Jones fulfilled every one of my expectations with her newest book LONE STAR SURRENDER. Constantine and Nicole are thrust together because of a major criminal case but they have so much more in common than either of them realized. I loved how these characters interact and the action packed scenes had me anxiously turning pages in anticipation of what would happen next. One of the things I especially enjoyed was how each characters' background plays into their attitudes and how they relate to each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, action packed story, January 16, 2010

This review is from: Lone Star Surrender (Harlequin Blaze) (Mass Market Paperback)
Constantine Vega has been in deep undercover for three long years, infiltrating the drug world to bring down the top drug lord. The time has come to bring him down, putting him away for good. Constantine is set to be the star witness, if he can make it to the stand alive.

Nicole Ward has been burned badly, and not just by love. She began her career as an attorney for her father's firm, one of the best, but when she gets a convicted killer off, only to have him murder another victim, she does what she can to salve her guilt, by quitting her high-paying job to work for the U.S. Attorney. She is determined to put Alvarez away for life. When she agrees to meet her witness, Constantine, she knows it's dangerous, but she never expects to be on the run with him.

Will Alvarez's lackeys get to Constantine and Nicole before the trial? Nothing good can come out of the passion flaring between them, or can it?

LONE STAR SURRENDER was a fast-paced, action packed story, that kept me on my toes while I followed Constantine and Nicole through Texas, as they stayed one-step ahead of their pursuers. The heat that flared between them kept my pages smoking, they allowed their passions to reign over them, though not forgetting the reason they were brought together. I felt a connection to them each right from the start, they were both well thought out characters, each with their own flaws, but able to come together as a perfect pair. I loved how while they ran, they let themselves enjoy the moment, not knowing where it would lead them. It gave them a bit of relief. I liked seeing Constantine and Nicole overcome their fears and grow together as a couple.

Lisa Renee Jones writes both contemporary and paranormal romance with Harlequin, Kensington, Berkley and Pocket. She has also published scorching hot romances with Ellora's Cave. Soon she will be writing for Grand Central Publishing under the pseudonym, Faith Winter.

This review is from: Lone Star Surrender (Harlequin Blaze) (Mass Market Paperback)
Constantine Vega has spent the last three years of his life undercover, chumming with a dangerous drug lord, gathering evidence for trial. When federal prosecutor Nicole Ward needs to talk to him about his testimony, even the secret location of their meeting may not be enough to keep them safe. Constantine and Nicole had met earlier at a nightclub when he sought her out at a celebration for her sister. Little did she know during their brief but intensely passionate encounter that he was the witness she so desperately needed in seeking a conviction against the deadly Alvarez. The two meet at a secret location, but it appears there's a leak on the inside and soon they're on the run. Constantine finds himself fighting to evade the bad guys in order to get himself and Nicole to court in time for the trial, but first he'll have to keep them alive.
