Lonely Boy is a really nice track from the soon to be released El Camino album. The official video is outstanding, one guy dancing in front of a flop house hotel. He isn't the best dancer in the world, but wow is he having fun.
This song has a nice hook. It has some of the rawness of their earlier songs, not over produced. Dan and Patrick sound like they had a good time making this song. Not that it makes this song better or worse, but it does have some radio play in it.
Follow up to their most popular album yet, Brothers, it's very hard to tell if this album will be as wildly popular. It is hard to tell if they will make all the new fans that discovered them from the Brothers album happy with this release.
Five tracks from El Camino are available streaming after signing up for The Black Keys newsletter. Lonely Boy is one of those five. There is a lot of variety. There is less blues or Gary Glitter influence, and they are moving more toward pure rock. One track, Little Black Submarines, has a lot of Led Zeppelin influence. Two of the tracks are way over produced, a little too much background singing, too slick, too many instruments. I really prefer The Black Keys in a more raw form.
I'm very anxious to receive my copy of this album. The Black Keys are an incredible group.
The Black Keys know how to hook and shake you. This song continues there ascent into your "most played" list. I'm not quite sure what makes there music so good. Guess you can't explain pure musical joy...you just have to listen.
The Black Keys are making a BIG hit with all the folks around here in Southeast Wisconsin. In fact, the younger generation in our high schools are really getting into their sound. "Lonely Boy" along with "Ten Cent Pistol" are making the rounds at every party where there's a band around here. A BIG two thumbs up for The Black Keys!
This will apply to all of my Black Keys reviews - it is refreshing to see a few guys get together and crank out music like the Black Keys. Heart Stopping, string popping Rock. Loud, take no prisoners and no apologies for doing so music.
If people are prone to listen to Bon Jovi or Bruce, they might have a problem with the Black Keys. LOL.
This is Rock the way it was meant to be done. Enjoy !
