Travel Companion for a Lonely Planet,
By Chris Lin (Sydney - The Olympic City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lonely Planet Volume 2 (Audio CD)
If you have watched any of the Lonely Planet TV Series shows, you'll know how down to earth and informative each programme is for the traveller who likes to get off the tourist highway and onto the adventure tracks. You probably didn't even take any notice of the wonderful sound scores that accompany each show. If you didn't, get this CD, sit yourself down, close your eyes and listen...be prepared to be taken around the world on a fantastic cultural journey of beautiful international themes. I listened to both Volumes 1 and 2 whilst sitting on trains, in taxis, buses and planes travelling recently in SE-Asia. What a fantastic way of enveloping yourself in the total environment of where you are. The music gives you a sense of adventure, even if you're just sitting at home listening to it. Great for traffic jams and long haul flights...!

I will tell you if you are a fan of the show, BUY THIS CD ! It accurately captures the very essence of the program. If only Ian & Justine came with the purchase.

I have been a fan of The Lonely Planet score over the years, and unlike many soundtracks this one includes the full scope of the many feelings you get when watching the program. I have watched the program over the years and admired how the musicians capture the mood of each episode so well. I am planning a trip to New England and look forward to testing the CD out in the mountains of New Hampshire, the rugged coast of Maine and the diverse surroundings of The Cape. My thoughts will be with Ian & Justine as I travel to new and exciting destinations. BRAVO !

I think I like Volume #2 better than Volume #1,
By Bart Tare "Cristobal" (United States) - See all my reviews

This double CD continues in the tradition Lonely Planet Volume #1. It is compilation of world folk music + electronic orchestration culled from the popular television series. But whereas one of the CDs in Lonely Planet Volume #1 was devoted entirely to ambient versions of the television show music, Lonely Planet Volume #2 is completely focused on the world folk (and not ambient) side of the show's music. (However, Volume #2 is still heavily orchestrated with electronic instruments.) After repeated listenings to both Volume #1 and Volume #2, I have decided that I like the music on this CD better. The music on Volume #2 seems to contain more depth and complexity than that on Volume #1. In addition, Volume #2 evokes a greater feeling of satisfaction when I listen to it. There is simply MORE (more cultural variety, more diverse sounds)on this CD than the music on Volume #1. With the exception of the incredibly annoying "Miao Song", this CD takes the cake for the Lonely Planet television series.

The sounds of Lonely Planet forever captured!,
This review is from: Lonely Planet Volume 2 (Audio CD)
I stumbled across this CD quite by accident at my local library one day. I have been a fan of the show for a while, and I always thought the music interesting, but had -never- thought there was a soundtrack to it! (Two actually!) I borrowed it, and I couldn't stop listening. It played (and still does, since I now have a copy) all the time. A very diverse mix of world sounds and styles, this really is a wonderful collection. It brings to mind the landscapes and grand vistas so often seen in the series. Anyone who loves watching Ian and Justine travel the globe needs this CD (and volume one, for that matter)! Even if you haven't seen the show, beg, steal or borrow this CD now! It is that good!

These recordings are so good that I can't believe they are not more well known. The musicians on the lonely planet, V1. and V2 shine in comparison to other well known `world' musicians (like Deep Forest, B-Tribe and Enigma). Highly recommended to buy both V1 and V2, four CDs for less than 40 US dollars. I can't wait to get on an airplane and listen to this awesome CD set! Long live Lonely Planet!

Amazing music. SO beautiful & so different than anything you'll hear on US radio. Captures the moods of the countries visited. The original track 'Windpower' upon which the main title themes are based gives a great workout to my 12" subwoofer! Crank 'em up! Way-way up! Hope your subwoofer can take it!! You wont be disappointed. More great stuff is also on Vol-1!

Great music!!,

Goes along with the great TV series of the same name (now somehow related to the "Globe Trekker" TV series). Great music from around the world. Some surreal; some just plain cool sounding.
