5.0 out of 5 stars Great book on Alaska, January 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lonely Planet Alaska (Regional Travel Guide) (Paperback)
I will be visiting my daughter in Alaska soon and got a few books out of the library to help me in planning. I liked this one so much because of the great suggestions of things to do, where to book them, places to stay and eat. So, in order to be able to dog ear pages and underline the areas I want to pursue, I just had to buy it. Great photos also. It makes me excited about Alaska

5.0 out of 5 stars ALASKA, June 5, 2010
This review is from: Lonely Planet Alaska (Regional Travel Guide) (Paperback)
I own this guide along with Frommer's and the Eyewitness. This one is zippier and less bogged down with colorless descriptions. Eyewitness comes in number two.

Alaska is the last frontier and a place every American should see at least once in their life. Traveling the rivers and bays is a good way to experience it. Better than a cruise and less expensive. Good addresses inside LP.

This review is from: Lonely Planet Alaska (Regional Travel Guide) (Paperback)
The fourth book I've read about Alaska in the past year. Coordinating author and Michigander Jim DuFresne wrote what I consider the best guidebook on Isle Royale. He doesn't disappoint in Lonely Planet's "Alaska." Like other books in this series, it's well-organized by region, with just enough representative entries of each community's businesses and attractions to allow comparison without overwhelming the reader with exhaustive detail. I like the attention given to ecologically friendly establishments, but never in a preachy way. I love Lonely Planet's "Top" lists, which give ideas about sites or experiences to include in your journey.
