4.0 out of 5 stars Things To Do And Places To Go, February 9, 2006
By

This review is from: The Lonely Planet Bluelist 2006 (Lonely Planet's Blue List) (Paperback)
This is actually two books in one. The first 97 pages is called "Things To Do" and contains top ten lists on various themes, such as "Best Places To See Wildlife" and "Best Beaches To Swing A Hammock". The lists make for a breezy and entertaining read. It's fun to find yourself either agreeing or disagreeing with the lists provided. I did discover some interesting new destinations. But most places I already knew about and nothing really popped out at me as an extraordinary new discovery. The second part of the book, over 200 pages, is called "Places To Go" and contains three page descriptions of various countries throughout the world deemed to be worthy of the "bluelist" of best places to travel this year. I found this part of the book most useful and interesting, as it can serve as both a basic reference guide to the countries covered as well as an introduction to countries the reader is less familiar with.

I can't quite give this book "5 stars" as none of the book's travel recommendations really blew me away. But it is a pleasant read and might be useful to the curious person seeking out new travel ideas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty & Glossy Advertisement for Lonely Planet Series, January 29, 2006

Nicely designed travel book. It's better than 1000 Places to See Before you Die. Interesting lists and nice layout. Pictures are from the Lonely Planet guides so it reads a little like an advertisement for the whole Lonely Planet series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A highlight of over 400 unique experiences around the world, May 26, 2006
This review is from: The Lonely Planet Bluelist 2006 (Lonely Planet's Blue List) (Paperback)
BLUELIST is more than just a book: here it's defined as a verb, 'to recommend a travel experience' - and what better publisher to do so than Lonely Planet which for years has been publishing independent traveler's guide to the byways of the world? BLUELIST uses the knowledge and experiences of the entire Lonely Planet community of authors, staff and travelers to provide a highlight of over 400 unique experiences around the world. Use BLUELIST as a guide: it's packed with color photos, maps, reviews of trends and global events, and insights on the 'best places' to go in each country. From things to take and see to 'defining experiences' unique to different regions, BLUELIST is the place to go for something different.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book., February 2, 2007

Father of four (Colorado United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Lonely Planet Bluelist 2006 (Lonely Planet's Blue List) (Paperback)
It is a good text. It is obvious that the book's glossy presentation seeks to encourage the reader to purchase/read the other Lonely Planet books by teasing them with just enough information but not enough. No trouble there, as the Lonely Planet series is highly enjoyable and informative.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book that Inspires one to Travel!, August 21, 2006
This review is from: The Lonely Planet Bluelist 2006 (Lonely Planet's Blue List) (Paperback)
This book serves as an excellent tool of inspiration for travelling around the globe. With its beautiful full color pictures and easy-to-read layout, it was hard for me to put the book down. Lonely Planet does a great job of keeping their intelligent writing casual and intruiguing. I would definitely reccomend it to any reader interested in the wonders that the world has to offer!!!
