I was looking for areas to explore in Great Britain outside of London and looking for unique recommendations outside of the traditional "go to Bath, go see Stonehenge". This book's section on south-western England (Wessex) was disappointing. Eyewitness Travel's Great Britain had much more details on what to see in that area. For vacations of average duration there is probably more in this book than you'll need. It turned out to be a great reference whenever our primary guide (Rick Steves) didn't cover some small town or place of lesser interest. Less visually pleasing than other guides, it has all you'll need (and then some) for a stay in the UK.

I found my brother's Frommer's book on England and Wales from 2005 was far more meaty and actionable than this one. That one had a variety of itineraries based on the type of activities one wants to do, and was overall much more useable.
