4.0 out of 5 stars LP Caribbean Islands
I must confess that I find Lonely Plant Guides far superior to other travel guides that I have used. That includes National Geographic and Frommer guides. Given that predisposition I found this guide particularly helpful. I spent 4 days in Puerto Rico and then did a cruise through several Caribbean Islands. 3.0 out of 5 stars Had Everything... Except what I Wanted
My mistake. I first looked up what I wanted on the Lonely Planet site. Yes, I could have purchaced a chapter for a couple bucks, but no. I wanted to get the whole book, just in case. So I came to Amazon, and the chapter on the Corn Islands is actually nowhere to be found. Oh well. Turns out my trip to Little Corn is postponed anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars LP Caribbean Islands, February 13, 2011

I must confess that I find Lonely Plant Guides far superior to other travel guides that I have used. That includes National Geographic and Frommer guides. Given that predisposition I found this guide particularly helpful. I spent 4 days in Puerto Rico and then did a cruise through several Caribbean Islands. The LP Guide had a great synopsis of each island with cultural and historical backgrounds. Suggested highlighted sights of importance were on the mark and options for outdoor activities and information on them were accurate. For those that like to read historical novels or fiction set in the places they travel, LP makes great recommendations. I enjoyed the guide and lent it to friends in Puerto Rico who were staying on the island and they found it extremely useful as well.

Please keep in mind that LP guides are best for the more independent traveler. Walking tours and finding off-the-beaten path gems are the best things about the guides. Restaurants and shopping are separated by Budget, Moderate and Splurge categories so one can decide which is appropriate for your budget and taste. I would recommend this guide without reservation for anyone travelling to the Caribbean on their own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Leave Home Without It, April 2, 2011

As usual, with this guidebook Lonely Planet gives their unique perspective on the Caribbean Islands. I wish I had this book several years ago. With it I could have avoided many of the tourist traps that gladly take your money, but don't provide any real insight or experiences with local customs, cuisine and culture. If you are planning to travel to the Caribbean, I highly recommend that you bring this travel guide along. As with other Lonely Planet books it is best if you read it before you get to your destination.

Wonderful, comprehensive and informative. The organization of each chapter makes it easy to locate specific information. As an annual cruise passenger, this book will be extremely valuable to me.

Other than that little snafu, I always like Lonely Planet guides, and will pick up a new edition for Maui this Fall.
