Good Travel Guide!,
By
This review is from: Lonely Planet Corsica (Paperback)
I bought the Lonely Planet book after I fell for a different guide to Corsica that had pretty maps and colorful pictures but was disappointing. This other guide really wasn't giving me the kind of information I wanted. I read the whole thing and was still unclear about which towns in Corsica I wanted to visit. The Lonely Planet guide gave better details and after reading it, I knew clearly where to go. So, fall for the books with color pictures! The Lonely Planet book has great suggestions for restaurants, hotels, and easy hikes. I could only find information on the GR20 in the other book, but the Lonely Planet guide had suggestions for less hard core hikers.

A Guide for Outdoor Enthusiasts,
By Outbound Liz (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lonely Planet Corsica (Regional Guide) (Paperback)
A light-weight travel guide, handy for traveling and more targeted to outdoor enthusiasts. This guide lists numerous campsites, budget and mid-range hotels and contains a good diving and rock-climbing section. Also features a day-by-day description of the GR20 trail and other famous hikes.
Includes a concise and thorough Getting Started guide, pre-planning information, itineraries, transportation, tips for those traveling with children and a language guide. Maps are a hard to read though. Thankfully the free Corsica maps provided by the local Tourist Offices in Corsica are usually all you need to get around. This guide also contains non-travel bits of anecdote and trivia that the average traveler may not find particularly useful though I find them fascinating. The lack of colors makes it difficult to read. To compensate for that, I recommend the Corsica Eyewitness Travel Guide as well.

very helpful and well detailed book with good accomodation tips, although accomodation and attraction prices went up one year after publication significantly.

This review is from: Lonely Planet Corsica (Paperback)
I was traveling in Corsica summer 2001. I had bought this guide and the Insight guide about Corsica. Together they was a very good match.LP's book have a good diving and walking section. The walking section covers the famous GR20 route in particular. The diving section contains a lot about the diving possibilities and where the best dives are. There are a lot of small villages in Corsica. Many of them is not mentioned in LP. So don't forget to explore.

Somewhat disappointing,

This review is from: Lonely Planet Corsica (Paperback)
Compared to other lonely planet guides, this one is somewhat lacking in information. There are almost no pictures, and very little about what's interesting to see in the various locations.
It gives pretty good information about hotels, but not about what is interesting to see there. For Corsica, the rough guide is better. |
