Lonely Planet Havana, January 30, 2011
This review is from: Lonely Planet Havana (City Travel Guide) (Paperback)
As far as guidebooks to Havana go this Lonely Planet guide is simply outstanding. I have bought a couple of guidebooks and this one easily comes out on top. It starts with some colour plates in the front with gorgeous photography and some interviews with Havana residents to get the `inside scoop' on Havana. This is quickly followed by in-depth chapters on a variety of topics. These include, City Life, Arts, Music, Architecture, History, Sights, Walking and Cycling Tours, Eating, Entertainment, Activities, Shopping, Sleeping, Excursions, Directory and Language, all topped off with more colour plates with various maps that's you may need. This book is nothing if not comprehensive! The descriptions really give you a taste for Havana and whet your appetite and the style of writing is accessible and clear. This provides some useful tips and suggestions and should enable you to enjoy all Havana has to offer. Although the photography is pretty sparse compared to other guidebooks, this book is still worth a look for the information alone. I'd suggest you go straight for this guide as the others don't even seem to come close, but be aware the version I have was last updated in 2007 so things may have changed slightly. Well worth a look.
