Very disappointed with this book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lonely Planet London (1st ed) (Paperback)
We just returned from London and Paris. The Paris book was very useful, however, the London book was not organized very well. The areas of London were not marked the same in the book as they were in the city. In some of the paragraphs describing things, it says that this really is not a good place to go, etc., etc.. The places to eat section did not describe where the restaurants were according to area and did not describe the food; good, fair, excellent. This book also gave little details and always referred to other books to buy. My husband and I walked London and took the underground and this book did not give us in detail where the sights were. If we had a car, the book would have been better, but we wanted to use public transporation and enjoy our vacation.

A Great Help!,

This book was just what we needed in planning our trip to London. We loved all of the maps and the special walking guides section. The site descriptions helped us plan out where we wanted to go and we were able to figure out all of our transportation on the flight over. This guide was a great help!

Yet another fabulous Lonely Planet book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lonely Planet London (1st ed) (Paperback)
This is easily the best travel book I've ever bought. It's written in an engaging style, and is absolutely crammed with useful information. I only wish I had heeded it in the matter of hotels; I was badly taken for a ride on my (emotional) hotel choice. I know better now! Lonely Planet's book made my solo trip much more comfortable, and reduced a potentially overwhelming city to the more manageable proportions of its neighborhoods. Although other books I looked at did the same, Lonely Planet's was the only one that made me *want* to visit them.

Outstanding guide book for London!,

My wife and I just returned from a trip to London and found this book invaluable. It was the one book we carried with us every day to every place. This book offers high quality, accurate information about London. A great index in the back adds to the utility of the book. The construction of the book itself is high quality, so that it doesn't fall apart during the stress of travel. If you are going to London, bring this book.

Seeing London the only way via Lonely Planet,

What can one say, but the Lonely Planet is the best and as a native Londoner this book is up there with all the other ones I have read and used across the world.

Not impressed!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lonely Planet London (1st ed) (Paperback)
Not very successful: of all the guides this one seems to have a hidden agenda that sometimes borders on the absurd. Badly written and badly researched. The writers can scarcely conceal a latent dislike of the place. I hated this book!
