Review

Sherman's Travel, April 2007
'...Encounter guides...discreet in size, but generous enough on page count to provide a fuller city experience minus the hefty guidebook load.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Marrakesh Encounter, October 1, 2008
By
This review is from: Lonely Planet Marrakesh Encounter (Paperback)
Marrakesh Encounter was exactly the guide book I needed for my first trip to this fascinating city. This Lonely Planet 'book' has 176 pages and is pocket sized. It is organized, well illustrated, and has a excellent city map. The author, Alison Bing, has included everything from a quick reference page to geographic sections describing the various neighborhoods, each with their own map. This comprehensive guide made me feel at home before I even got there. I was able to book my lodgings, plan my itinerary, and have an appreciation for the cultural differences I would be experiencing. The perfect guide book!Marrakesh Encounter (Best Of)

If you're spending a few days in Marrakech and need good dining options, I highly reccommend this book. I had other guide books for the attractions and sites in Marrakech that contained more details than this one, but it was absolutely great for choosing restaraunts. Every dining recommendation in the book was up to date and the food and service were as good as described. Very useful tool if your first time in Marrakech.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended, January 18, 2008
If you buy this book, make sure to also buy another guidebook. And once you have that other book, you won't need this one.
This book did not have enough detail; we were in Marrakesh for several days and this book had so little detail that we had to buy another guidebook--which was hard to find in English in Marrakesh. Once we finally found anther guidebook (Rough Guide Morocco, ~US$35) it had all this one contained & more. You will want a more detailed guidebook in Marrakesh since everything is in Arabic or French. Very, very little is in English.
Also, the writer had a fun, flowery style that unfortunately did not leave room for information. Descriptions of Riads/hotels, restaurants, etc. came across as if the editor had removed key details to leave room for enthusiastic but non-descriptive language. We are big Lonely Planet fans but this book is Not Recommended.
