1.0 out of 5 stars Lost and Lonley in Rome, January 2, 2001
By
Pav Sethi (London, United Kingdom.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lonely Planet Rome (1st ed) (Paperback)
This is perhaps the worst travel guide I have ever used. The maps are essentially unusuable and completely unhelpful. The index did not contain such basic references as the Sistine Chapel or the Palace of Augustus. It also commonly referred to monuments/sites by their Italian labels, and this proved to be irritating and inefficient. Lastly, the guide was missing a huge amount of critical information on the city. It is a far inferior work to the "Rough Guide," and anyone who wants a free copy of the Lonley Planet Guide can email me for mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Guide to Roma, May 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Lonely Planet Rome (1st ed) (Paperback)
This travel guide for Rome, Italy is a must have for the first-time visitor. The guide has decent maps (although most are black & white), a small dictionary with useful Italian phrases and their English equivalents, and basic info for travellers including exchange rates, requirements for travel, transportation, etc. The guide also has tips & suggestions for dining, places to stay, things to do, and entertainment - each of which is broken down by price range, so that budget & high-end travellers alike can benefit from the guide. Another great feature is the listing of day excursions from Roma (including Tivoli & Viterbo) and the Rome Walks chapter, which I found especially useful when planning my trip.
