Book Description

City Map January 1, 2005
Find your way to a gondola, discover secluded corners or relax in an out of the way café - this map will help you chart your course through the city of canals.

• Palazzo Duclae - The Dog'es Palace is a rare example of civil Venetian Gothic.

• Grand Canal - This is Main Street Venice, a broad ribbon of colors, sounds and smells in the shape of an inverted 'S.'

• Peggy Guggenheim Collection - The eccentric millionarie art collector called Peggy Guggenheim called the unfished Palazzo Venier dei Leoni home for 30 years.

• Ghetto Nuovo - in 1516 all Venetian Jews were ordered to live in one area. Being surrounded by water, it was a natural prison. The Ashkenazi's hard Germanic pronunciation gave us the word 'ghetto.'

• St. Mark's Basilica, For centuries, admirers have floced to admire the dazzling mantle of St. Mark's Basilica, a cornucopia of gold and jewels.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's laminated for a reason, February 7, 2010

This review is from: Lonely Planet Venice City Map (Map)
While this map is very detailed and accuate I discovered the hard way why it's laminated. I was so involved in the winding streets and canals on the map that I didn't pay attention to where I was walking and ended up in the canal. Now while I got soaked and ruined my camera, the lamination on the map protected it. It was easy to wipe it dry and refold (also easy, just like in the description). I give it only 3 stars because of they failure to print a warning label on the product that it can be distracting while walking on narrow sidewalks with water just feet away.
