5.0 out of 5 stars Best country record all year, November 24, 1999
I bought Why Do Lonely Men... at a Star Room Boys show here in Atlanta, and I thought it would be good, just a nice record to have, something I'd listen to once or twice and then put on the shelf. For the next eight weeks, it was all I could do to take it out of the CD player and listen to something else. It's just exquisite.

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys are the real deal!, December 8, 1999
By

This is an exquisite album. In fact, it may be the best album I've heard in several years. There isn't a bad song in the bunch. Like Joe Ely, these guys are so good, it's no wonder you'll never hear them on the radio (although I have a hunch the late, great KFAT in Gilroy, CA would have played them).

5.0 out of 5 stars #1 Fan from Louisiana!, November 18, 1999
By A Customer
Even though I had the opportunity to meet a member of the band, and instantly met a life long friend. I did not realize that I would be listening to their entire CD over and over again on my 12 hour trip from Georgia to Louisiana. They have one of the most intriguing sounds I have heard in a LONG time, and they are becoming quite a favorite in my home town. Way to go Star Room Boys! Keep up the AWESOME JOB!

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful music: genuine, rhythmic, and good lyrics, August 16, 1999
By A Customer
I heard this band at a professional conference in Georgia and had no idea who they were, except that everyone loved to dance to them and to listen to their music. They were not loud and show offy, just played very good music. Friends of theirs were selling CD's, so I bought one, and was probably one of the few to do so. That was my good fortune, for I have continued to enjoy them, as do now my friends and teenage sons. They are a genuine mixture of old and new and have their own distinctive sound. I encourage you to check them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back when "Country" was "Country and Western", April 22, 2000

This CD has to be the greatest release of 1999 if not the 1990s! Dave writes them like they used to. I have never owned a CD where I didn't want to skip over at least one song...until this one! This CD is just as great as their live shows (minus the dancing!) An added bonus is that all the members of Star Room Boys are truly wonderful and kind people! Thank you for an incredible CD, guys!

4.0 out of 5 stars Who are these guys, and why aren't they major label stars?, September 7, 1999

Jeez, I just love it when I discover someone new who is just great. What a voice! Like them more than the Mavericks, who to me are becoming pretentious.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smooth country soul from Athens, GA, June 3, 1999
By A Customer
This is top-notch blue eyed country soul that reminds me of a marriage of early Jason & the Scorchers and the Mavericks. Literate, melodic and unpretentious. The production is clean, yet retains a homespun warmth. Put the stereo speaker in the windowsill so that you can listen as you have that last smoke of the day while you sit in the dark on your front porch. It's that kind of record.

For this many people to have written reviews for a group you have never heard of is a testament to how good this CD is . Relisten to it about every 3 months and its just as good each time .

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent cry-in-your-beer country, August 20, 2005
By
I don't listen to much country music so I'm definitely not an expert, but I really like this CD. The singer has the perfect tortured inflection to his voice for this kind of old-school country. Each song is another heartache rendered by a group of very good musicians. If you're tired of the current crop of pop-country music, you should give The Star Room Boys a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's hope the Boys get back together, May 30, 2004
These guys are great. I wish I had of caught them live while they were still together. I've have both the SRB CDs and never tire of them. If you like a classic country sound, I can't imagine you not loving this CD. I don't know of any other contemporay performers that do straight-up stuff like this. Fingers are crossed, hoping Dave Marr's artistic life isn't over.
