5.0 out of 5 stars A True Western High!, July 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lonesome Dove (Audio CD)
Simply wonderful! A soothing mixture of western music, envoking wonderful memories to some famous western movie scores. It absolutely sends me high into the big bright western sky. The sound out of the CD can be felt -- full dynamic range, full symphony! Easy transitions from one score to the next.

4.0 out of 5 stars "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon...The Proud Rebel...Red Sun", December 25, 2001
This review is from: Lonesome Dove (Audio CD)
Silva Screen takes us into "the wide open spaces", with some of the greatest composers to sit the saddle---Elmer Bernstein...Jerry Fielding...Dominic Frontiere...Manos Hadjidakis...Richard Hagerman...Lee Holdridge...Maurice Jarre...Doug Kershaw...David Mansfield...Jerome Moross...Basil Poledouris...Dimitri Tiomkin---hard riding is the name of the game, great scoring gives the listener high mountains and deep valleys, takes us back to those thrilling and early days of the CLASSIC WESTERN.

Must mention of some stand outs ~ "SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON"(Richard Hagerman), John Ford's story of the Cavalry...features John Wayne(outstanding performance) and Victor McLaglan(never better) sharing the spotlight with Hagerman's sentimental score, capturing each characters mood with a splendid screenplay---"THE PROUD REBEL"(Jerome Moross), starring Alan Ladd(remember him as Shane) and Olivia De Havilland(Oscar Winner), make this a memorable film with the help of Moross' sweeping score---"RED SUN"(Maurice Jarre), is one of the best "American Western" scores from this Academy Award Composer, as Jarre blends early cowboys of America, France and Japan in a strange and exciting film.

There are better Western Compilations than this one...but many collectible hard-to-find film scores appear only on this CD, "film-score-buffs" should jump up and down with glee...Silva Screen can always mix it up, and once again, they came through with flying colors---another great job by Nic Raine and The City Of Prague Philharmonic---let's saddle up Pilgrim, we're riding fast and hard into our next adventure, of Silva Screen and the Great American West!

You might try this other Silva Screen release ~ "How The West Was Won:Classic Western Film Scores I"(SSD-1058), this pardner is worthy of a great listen.

Total Time: 67:15 on 13 Tracks ~ Silva Screen SSD-1061 ~ (1996)
