Biography

Rockabilly three piece, The Stray Cats were formed in 1979 in Long Island by Brian Setzer, Leon Drucker and James McDonnel. They cite their influences as Bill Haley and the Sun Records label. The band relocated to the UK to take advantage of the rockabilly revival in the late 70s.

The band released their debut album Stray Cats in 1981, making the top 40 in the singles charts with "Runaway Boys" and… Read more in Amazon's Stray Cats Store

Editorial Reviews

The Stray Cats should be given credit for bringing a breath of fresh air to the musical panorama of the 1980s.The trio joined forces on Long Island, NY but soon moved to the UK, bringing with them their own trademark style of new rockabilly. Their first album was an immediate success, so much so, that an army of copy-cat bands-all armed with double basses, Gretsch guitars & Spartan stand-up drum kits-soon flooded the scene. This CD features live tracks taken from a concert the band played at the Roxy in 1981, where our boys, rockabilly guitarist extraordinaire, Brian Setzer, Lee Rocker & Slim Jim Phantom, set the audience on fire with classics like 'Rock This Town', 'Stray Cat Strut' & a hair-raising Jeanie, Jeanie, Jeanie', & an unplugged studio session from 1990, featuring originals like 'Rumble In Brighton' & 'Lust N' Love' along with classic versions of 'Mystery Train, 'Summertime Blues' & 'Oh, Boy!'. 15

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like the raw sound and the acoustic songs..., February 10, 2007
This review is from: Lonesome Tears (Audio CD)
Then you'll like this CD. The Acoustic songs are great, in my opinion. The sound quality on them is awesome. The live songs, however, do not have the greatest sound quality. I still enjoy them very much though because that doesn't really bother me, but it may bother other people. I feel like I am really there when I am listening to it, so I like the fact that they don't sound perfect. This CD of mine got stolen, so I will buy it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Sound Quality of a Transistor Radio, April 11, 2003
This review is from: Lonesome Tears (Audio CD)
This cd doesn't even rate one star. Being a long-time fan of the Cats, I looked forward to their Buddy Holly Covers on this cd, however, the sound quality of the product is horrific. Avoid this at all costs. You have better sound quality from the loose change jingling in your pants pocket than you do on this. As far as I'm concerned this cd could be used either as a mini-frisbie or skeet for target practice.

Buyer Beware!!!!!
