Soft jazz standards from unexpected sources -- wonderful!,

This review is from: Long Ago & Far Away (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorites, too. When I bought it, I had no idea who Charlie Watts was, not being an attentive Stones fan. I bought it just by listening to some of it in the store. I enjoyed the richness of the presentation & orchestrations. The Quintet is terrific, and they're each spotlighted periodically. I particularly enjoy the vocalist, Bernard Fowler, who I understand did some earlier reggae recordings (couldn't prove it by me). He's got some nice ways with a lot of numbers here, particularly "Good Morning Heartache," "I've Got a Crush on You" (which opens the disc and captured me immediately), and "Stairway to the Stars." A beautiful soft jazz album of old standards from unexpected sources -- wonderfully listenable.

With the ambience that soothes the night away....,

Charlie Watts sure knows how to rekindle romance and soft candlelight with the likes of "Long Ago and Far Away", a song itself that re-assures magical moments of love splendors. The exquisite musical arrangements and the musicians themselves are top-notch. The versatility of the drumming Rolling Stoner Charlie himself lends wonder to the lush finesse of the CD itself. I truly enjoy the delightful titles within, and what better to do than to put on the album in the wee small hours of the evening if you know what true romance is all about...Enjoy!!

Jazz brilliance. A Sheer delight. Simply beautiful.,

Charlie departs the hard rocking rhythm of the Rolling Stones and takes you through a jazz web of sheer beauty. Charlie has always loved jazz and he is by far one of the most prolific and pure drummers in the world today. He takes percussion very seriously as it should be and delivers with a resounding punch. This is a wonderful piece of work and shows his talent and knowledge and background in the world of jazz. This is a must own for all Stones fans and lovers of great jazz music. I do hope that Charlie continues his amazing percussion work in the jazz venue. He is a one of a kind musician and the quintet is stunning.

Warm And Tender Part 2,

This review is from: Long Ago & Far Away (Audio CD)
If you liked Charlie's 1993 release "Warm and Tender" you will enjoy this one as well.Gershwin,Cahn,Cole Porter just to name a few of the song writers in this 14 track collection. Unlike the Australian reviewer I think Bernard Fowler vocals are wonderful! silky smooth ,romantic voice. His vocals sometimes reminds me of a Nat King Cole. This is a cd that won't dissapoint, so light a candle open a bottle of your favorite wine and relax and listen to this excellent cd.

This is a lovely old-school jazz vocal album that brings new life to some classic songs. Watts is a more than accomplished jazz drummer and obviously enjoys this break from his flawless work with the Rolling Stones.

It was the first time I bought a used cd. Was apprehensive about it but the ratings of the seller seemed good. Glad I did it. There were no problems with the cd. The case was scratched but that didn't affect the sound at all. So all in all a good buy on my part.

This superb record of classic songs, mainly from the 30's, is almost breathtakingly beautiful. Charlie Watts's Quintet create a tremendous backdrop for the sensationally smooth and emotionally powerful singing of Bernard Fowler. A tour de force!

I listen to this disc nearly every weekend. This is simply one of my all-time favorite jazz discs. Just a great, great musical release. Tremendous vocals, great musicality and musicianship. Highly recommended. If you are a fan of Sinatra, Bennett, Tyrell, Cole, Porter, etc., you must get this cd.

Jazz Standards done very well,

Better than their previous effort "Warm and Tender", this set has a lot of appeal. Stones back-up singer Bernard Fowler handles the lead vocals here and does a great job and Charlie proves again that he can drum behind anything. Many highlights- the whole set is great and this is a lot better than any of the Rod Stewart attempts at this sort of thing.
