He tries to coax his pet out from under a chair and eventually cuddles him in his baby blanket. In "Lullaby and Good-Night," a child makes up his own lullaby and puts his mother to sleep. In "Aliens," a little girl blames aliens for breaking a glass. Her unfazed grandmother responds that aliens "haven't been to visit me since your father was a small boy." Each selection is accompanied by illustrations done in colored pencil and felt-tipped pen, resulting in simple, yet entertaining vignettes. These tales display Rockwell's insight into the lives of children and are coupled with a narrative flair and dashes of humor and sweetness. A companion volume to Once Upon a Time This Morning (Greenwillow, 1997), this is a solid addition to the author's long list of children's books.

Hours of enjoyment for my daughter,

My daughter picked this up during a library visit, and now borrows it all the time which is why I'm finally purchasing a copy. I find the stories to be extremely mundane, but this is something that children really seem to enjoy. It's one of the few books that she's willing to "help" me read by reading any words that she knows when I pause and point to them. The print could be bigger; that would make reading together much easier. But the stories are a nice length and my little girl doesn't seem to tire of them.

My daughter likes it, but the stories are printed with small words making it hard for her to follow along. I would not purchase it again.
