"A child of my Own. Flesh of my flesh..." That is the deep yearning that fills Tess's heart. Despite years spend under a doctor's care and advances in medical technology, she and her husband have discovered their options have been exhausted, leaving them with arms empty, long-held dreams shattered.

A unique opportunity arises in the form of a young pregnant teen desperate to free herself from her misguided decisions. Drawn together by their mutual needs, Tess and Sherry see a solution in what the other offers. But what appears to be an ideal agreement soon tests the fragile threads of Tess's fledgling faith....

The answer is very different from what they were expecting....

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Tess and Brad Holbrook tried every possible medical treatment in her quest to become pregnant, and everything failed. Reluctant to adopt at first, Tess soon realizes thatit is the only way she'll become a mother. Through a friend, the couple learns about Sherry Macomber, a pregnant teen who plans to give her baby up for adoption if she can find the appropriate parents. Tess and Brad invite Sherry into their home and begin an emotional roller coaster ride, for Tess and Sherry clash at every turn. When tragedy strikes, Tess finally opens her heart and listens to what God has been trying to tell her about her family all along. Peterson (Treasures of the North) examines an emotional issue with sensitivity and comes up with a surprising twist that fans will treasure.

By A Customer
This review is from: The Long-Awaited Child (Paperback)
I read this book in one sitting as soon as I got it in the mail. It was a very moving, touching book. The author does not offer easy answers, but deals with real issues surrounding inferitility and adoption. It was great to see the characters draw closer to God as they dealth with this difficult situation. Highly recommended, but be ready for an emotional read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Read a Better Adoption Story..., September 23, 2003

This story is one of the best I've read in a long time on the subject of infetility and adoption. There's nothing more agonizing and stressful than not able to concieve, and Peterson captures the emotion perfectly. And when a fourteen-year-old girl gets pregnant, the couple is happy to bring her into their life. With a surprising and tearful ending, you will be glued to the pages to the very end. It make me cry so much I had to hide in my bedroom for about an hour before I could calm down! I highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with infertility or even anyone wanting to know more about the subject. I would give this book 10 stars if I could!

4.0 out of 5 stars get out the kleenex, July 10, 2002
This review is from: The Long-Awaited Child (Paperback)
You will need it with this book. This is a good book about adoption, infertility, broken homes, and how God can help people in their lives. I found the book very emotional. The characters, although not very deep, seem to resonate with a purpose. You don't get to know any of the characters VERY well, but you get an understanding of what Tess & Sherry have gone through.

After all the despair, there is light at the end of the tunnel with this book, as the author places a nice little epilogue at the end...
