5.0 out of 5 stars A Guide That Can Turn An LDR Cynic, March 17, 2005
As a veteran of several LDR's, I feel particularly qualified to review this guide. Before this charming book, I was a committed LDR skeptic due to all the commonly known reasons. This witty guide is upfront and honest about the pluses (yes, there are quite a few) and minuses of an LDR. If you find yourself in an LDR, and want to make it succeed, you can do no better than this. Through quality reporting and interviewing, the author has gathered a large amount of real world evidence on how to make an LDR work. It quickly and amusingly goes to heart of what makes these relationships thrive (or not). In comparison with many dating manuals, which are often dumb and depressing, this little guide is smart and funny. Guys will appreciate the book's organization, which lets you quickly flip to the appropriate pages on game day. Everyone will benefit from the book's practical tips (negotiating with your employer, handling the visit, etc). Plus, the guide's the perfect size to slip into your pocket and read on the plane or Amtrak! If it can make an LDR cynic reconsider, this book does something right.

5.0 out of 5 stars not too sappy to give to a guy, February 25, 2005
This book gives good tips about every aspect of an LDR, but at the same time it doesn't take itself too seriously. There are funny parts, like a list of how you know you're cut out for an LDR, suggested songlists for mix tapes, even suggested scripts for those monosyllabic types who might be bad on the phone. It's a relationship book that you can give to a guy--which I did, to my LDP (long-distance partner), who's in grad school in Wisconsin. Hopefully he'll follow some of the book's advice and pull off a surprise visit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Cute, January 23, 2005
I thought this was an adorable book. It has a lot of cute suggestions and advice, and it is written in a very easy to read format where the chapters are sub-divided up and use a lot of bullets so that it is quicker and easier to pick up for a quick glance than something with long paragraphs and drawn out stories. I plan to highlight the more useful parts then send it to my sweetheart as a surprise gift (one of the book's suggestions).
