The essays in this book are rich, varied, engaging. Most of all I appreciated those by the editor, Christine Downing. The depth of her analysis of Persephone in Hades, and the meaning of the dark night of the soul, was profoundly illuminating for me. Anyone who wishes to explore this myth in relation to her life, and also in relation to the archetypal experience of descent and renewal, will
find this book a rich resource.
