As a long time sufferer of allergic reactions to synthetic deodorants, I have not used regular ones for at least a year now. Unfortunately most of the time, even deodorants that claim to be organic would still irritate my skin. I first attempted a couple of these organic deodorants, which produced well inferior results. I'd have to apply these "organics" anywhere from 2-5 times per day to prevent odor, not to mention they were pricey.

After which, I discovered Lavilin (R) which is very similar to this product. It is a cream as opposed to a stick or spray on deodorant and claims to be long lasting. It truly is a long lasting deodorant (I've heard claims of 2 weeks with one application), but runs at least $10 for less than half an ounce. I can say that the NOW deodorant cream worked nearly as well for me as the Lavilin and is less than half the price. This product will work for me on average about four days sometimes longer. It continues to block odor even after showering. I am very pleased with NOW's deodorant cream and I'll never go back to stick deodorant again.

One might note that if you want this to truly be long lasting, make sure your armpits are trimmed or free of hair all together. When I first used it, I made the mistake of not doing this and I was lucky to get a day's worth of odor protection. In my opinion it is an ideal deodorant, no skin irritation, good price and long lasting.

I am yet another customer who started with Lavilin and noticed the change in the new formula, which does not work anything like as well as it used to do. Lavilin is distributed by Now Foods in the US market, so to see them making a similar product caught my attention. This is almost as good as the old formula of Lavilin...and believe me I know. I live in the Desert in Arizona, and this works just as effectively in high temperatures of summer.

I think some of the reviewers who had problems do not either understand how to use the product or are expecting the effects of petrochemical and petroleum antiperspirants not a deodorant. For initial use, you need to skip using deodorant or antiperspirants for 2 weeks. Then take a shower and wash well under the arms (trimming hair or shaving improves effectiveness) and apply a small amount the size of a drop of water. The next morning you should wash off well under the arms and reapply. Never apply to broken or freshly shaved skin, just as you would not do any other underarm odor product. Sometimes it might be necessary to reply earlier that 5 to 6 days if you have a great deal of the bacterial that causes underarm odor, or if you sweated a great deal- like high summer in my area where 110 F temps for prolonged periods of time are possible. You only need to put the cream when hair would naturally grow in the armpit.

The calendula flower (marigold), grapefruit, and lavender in the product are naturally bactericides, antiseptics, and anti-inflammatory substances. Marigold are still used to make organic bactericides, and lavender was the top antiseptic (or concentrated and boric acid was the only disinfectant) used until the 1930's when bleaches became more popular in surgery and the medical professionals as the newest wonder chemical.

This deodorant has the same ingredients, in apparently the same proportions with the same efficacy as Lavilin, which I had been using for the past few years and it has the added benefit of costing a fraction of the price! It's faint scent is even better!

This is not quite a perfect deodorant, but I have found a couple of ways to overcome the down-sides so that it works just great for me. I was so happy to find a non-aluminum anti-perspirant/depdorant that I was motivated to find solutions. I was using Lavalin for a while to good effect, although it has the same main problems as the Now deodorant, then switched to this because the cost is so much less. My first complaint was that the frangrance is too strong and it is a blechy floral. Luckily, though, the deodorant is very effective, so I only use a small bit, about the size of a grain of rice, which means not very much smelly stuff is going on my underarm in the first place. Once I am dressed, the smell is usually not too strong, and at least it is a "clean" sort of smell, versus BO. I try to apply it at night so the fragrance can dissipate a bit by the time I go out. One application lasts me about a week of no BO -- pretty fantastic! My other complaint is that because it is a cream, the basic way to apply it is with a finger tip. But then I would end up with floral-smelling dessicating white cream stuck under my nails, that just doesn't wash off easily. So I started applying it with a home-made applicator (actually the back of a demi-tasse spoon) and that has done the trick for me.

I have been using this since 1994. It used to last for 4 days. They thought they would save money by replacing the zinc oxide with talc and now it does not last 2 days. I am forced to buy Lavolin so I don't have to use this every other day. The question is how much money does NOW FOODS save if I stop buying their product.

I've been using this product fo the past 6 months and am fairly pleased with it. I used to use Hlavlin-which is similar but they changed their formulation and are completely worthless now. they used to be awesome. anyhow- this is the closest i've found to the old Hlavlin product. the reason i won't give it 5 stars is that by the end of the day I do start to notice odor- which I guess is pretty good compared to other 'natural' products. also works well for feet.
